The Secret River
Advantages: Great descriptions of the times, Australia
Disadvantages: None
...The Secret River
London 1806 - William Thornhill, happily wedded to his childhood sweetheart Sal, is a waterman on the River Thames. Life is tough but bearable until William makes a mistake, a bad mistake for which he and his family are made to pay dearly. His sentence: to be transported to New South Wales for the term of his natural life.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is the book of the month at our book club and is probably not a book I would have chosen for myself but is an extremely interesting portrail into life for people in that age and of the two countries.
This story is basically in two parts, Will's London life and then his Australian life. The two are most definitely linked to each other but in terms of Will's and Sal's feelings and adventures they are worlds apart, or you could say continents apart. The story...

updated CAIRO AND CRUISING DOWN THE RIVER
Advantages: Please read my review
Disadvantages: Please read my review
...I have been to Egypt twice and this was my Husbands first trip. We flew here from Tel Aviv on El Al Airlines.
The Nile looks like a snake, as it is not as wide as I had imagined it would be. When the River reaches Khartoum it becomes one River that has two sources, (the Blue Nile from Ethiopia and the White Nile from Lake Victoria in Kenya).
I am very interest in Egyptology as well as Ancient Cultures from around the World.
~.THE SHERATON .~
Our trip was a three-day in Cairo. We stayed at the Sheraton El Gezirah Hotel. This is in the center of Cairo that is on an Island surrounded by the Nile, (I stayed here on my first trip as well).
The Sheraton Hotel is a five star Hotel on Galaa Square. At the time we stayed there it cost us $1250.00 USD for our room, (each night).
Our room was large and decorated in off white...

Comfortable Cairo
Advantages: good location, clean and comfortable
Disadvantages: none
...that I liked about this place. The hotel also overlooks the Nile and you can get great views of this beautiful river depending on which side of the hotel you are on. There are single rooms, double rooms and suites.
There is also a bar and a restaurant. The breakfast is very good. There is a good buffet choice of hot and cold foods, freshly made omelettes, cereals, fruit, pastries, breads and jams. The staff are friendly enough. The hotel also has its own shop and post office.
I would definitely recommend this place if you are visiting Cairo, even if it is more expensive than a standard tourist hotel....

Down by the River...
Advantages: Marilyn Monroe looking beautiful and singing well, good cast, beautiful views
Disadvantages: Some dull bits, it's a Western!
...In the year following the filming of Niagara, Marilyn Monroe only made two films - the star-studded There's No Business Like Showbusiness and River of No Return. The latter is a 1954 Western filmed in Canada and co-starring Robert Mitchum.
Marilyn plays a saloon singer called Kay Weston, while Rory Calhoun is her partner Harry. They seem happy together, but it soon becomes obvious that they have different priorities in life. Harry is obsessed with making money. He is a gambler who is selfish, greedy and not very likeable.
Kay, however, is sweet, maternal, caring and warm-hearted. She isn't a passive woman though; she is feisty and determined and not afraid to have a go at anything.
Matt Calder (Robert Mitchum) is a cowboy who ends up at the saloon where Kay works. He has just been reunited with his son Mark (played well by...

river island
Advantages: great shop
Disadvantages: n/a
...When it comes to shops on the high street and i need an outfit River Island is one of the first shops that i will go into as i almost everytime manage to find something tht i like.
Although shopping in River Island is deadly with my store card i get very carried away.
River Island is a shop that is in most towns and also has a website if you do not have the chance to pop to your local branch and recently they have started putting sales items online so you can grab a bargain anytime.
River Island is a shop that stores ladies and mens wear. In the lasies sections you have footwear, jeans, tops, jackets, shorts, dresses, accessories and skirts. They stock sizes 6 to 16 6-16.. You have clothes for all occassions and at an affordable price. I also think that there is a high quality to al the items they sell.

The River Runs Dead (Boring)
Advantages: Mildly interesting plot, faintly evocative descriptions.
Disadvantages: Clumsy dialogue, implausible events, horrible writing of characters.
...If you like your thrillers slickly written and sharply observed, don?t read Down River.
If you appreciate acute characterisation and believable action, don?t read Down River.
Enjoy engaging dialogue, convincing back-stories and clever plotting? Probably best you don?t read Down River.
However, if none of the above applies, and you prefer clumsily written mysteries, a worn-out thesaurus and plot holes you can climb through, then by all means, this is a book to savour. Some books and films (and people, for that matter) have quite mystifying levels of success, and John Hart?s second novel is very much one of these. I?m not sure whether Richard & Judy?s Summer Reads is a mark of high-calibre literature, but they make some pretty solid choices, more or less. This being ?less?.
Down River is a tale of murder, more murder and comin...

Cairo, The Pyramids and The Cairo museum
Advantages: Obvious - The Pyramids, The Sphinx and the Cairo museum!
Disadvantages: Very busy and very polluted but don't let that put you off
...need of a holiday I began to think about fulfilling my dream and visiting the Pyramids. However, being a single woman, travelling to Egypt without a companion did not seem sensible and as most of my friends have young children finding a travel companion seemed unlikely so I began to dismiss the idea. Then a friend lent me "The Alchemist" by Paolo Coelho, a modern fable about following your dreams (I intend writing about the book in an article soon) and it inspired me to find a way. Then a work colleague, also a single woman who loves to travel to out of the way places, introduced me to a travel company called Explore (see my article Lone Traveller - you can see the world) and on 20 November 1999 I was on the plane to Cairo.
Arriving in Cairo at midnight and being driven straight to the hotel, my first real sight of the city was early...

River Island
Advantages: Excellent quality products and stylish clothes
Disadvantages: Lack of dresses
...Although this is one of my favourite shops, i have to admit im not as much of a fan as what i used to be in my teens! At school i was nicknamed miss river island, as everything i wore was from there. Recently though, i find the collection of clothing a little more limited to certain styles than what it used to be. River Island caters for those who like to follow fashion whilst keeping their own twist on it so you can stand out from the crowd. They also have a very stylish menswear collection available.
SIZES
As i am petite, i love the fact that river island cater for the smaller girl with their range of trousers and jeans, the sizes range from a size 6 to an 18, and the leg lengths on trousers come in short, regular or long. This is ideal for many, but i recommend trying trousers on anyway as sometimes the lengths and waist sizes...

~~The River Island Experience~~
Advantages: Good quality clothes, 'classy' clothes
Disadvantages: Jewellery is rubbish quality
...Introduction
-----------------
I first started shopping in River Island when I was about 14 years old. Back then all I could afford to buy from this store was clothes from the sale rail! But now I am older with more money I quite often buy my clothes from here, not only is it a stylish shop with clothes of high quality but it is also a pleasant experience to shop there.
The Designs
-------------------
River Island doesn't follow fashion as such as much as other high street stores. By this I mean their clothes have quite a classic look and every year they will stock similar clothes to the year before. Their clothes are generally smart looking, even their casual range is more like smart-casual. They like their glitter and sparkle at River Island, and they will often include glitter, sequins, diamonte and jewels on all types...

Bridge Over The River Thames
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...The Dartford River Crossing is one of those landmarks that I take for granted. Living not far from the M25, and using the tunnel on a reasonably regular basis, it has become purely and simply a means of getting across the Thames with the least amount of hassle. It was only when some friends visited from up north that I realised quite how much I took it for granted. They had never seen it before, only in pictures, and were looking forward to actually driving across/through it. They had no idea about how long it had been there, how much it cost, nor about who actually ran it, so I ended up having to tell them everything I knew about it. I guess that must be what has prompted me to write this review, as I?m sure there are many people out there that may be unaware of many aspects of the crossing.
** BRIEF HISTORY **
