Review of Kona Caldera

Ia , Santorini Island , Greece.

Advantages: It must be the most photogenic place on the island.
Disadvantages: Can be exspensive but you can visit for the day.

...If you are on holiday on the island of Santorini it is likely that you will be tempted to vist the town of Ia which is famous especially for it's sunsets. Picturesque white and blue houses are built into the rock that overlooks the Caldera; this is an expanse of water formed in the past by the island volcanic activity. Cruise ships sail into the Caldera to view the attractive town,and the colured rock formations (cliffs) that have been created by the erruptions of the volcano and also to allow their passengers to vist the town. Restaurants, hotels, houses and hoilday properties are situated (perched on the cliff face) to take advantage of the view of the sunset over the Caldera. Ia seems an exspensive place to stay for a holiday on Santorini but it is worth while taking a day trip there; it is a very photogenic place to visit. You...

...... not a very nice way to start an op about such a truly stunning place but unfortunately necessary. Gunung Batur (Batur Mountain) is in central bali and is one of the island's most sacred places. It's a beautiful sight when you arrive at the top: the road climbs and climbs up the edge of this ancient volcano until you reach the lip of the caldera, when this astonishing view opens up. The walls of the caldera fall amost vertically to the plain that was the old centre of the volcano, which has now re-emerged in the centre of the plain as a new and very active volcano. Curling round one side of the new volcano is lake batur. THere is much you can do here. First instinct will be to get out of the car and admire the spectacle - well worth a look but be careful of the hawkers. This is a very poor area and visitors are pounced on by...

Lots of diligent work showed that there had been some vast eruptions in the past and there were layers of volcanic ash found very large distances from the park. So the big question was" Just where is this volcano?" After all we were used to volcano's being rather large mountains. But there are others and when they blew and collapsed they left rather a large whole in the ground called a caldera. But there was none that could be identified! Then it finally dawned on scientists. What a place!!!

Advantages: Free Internet Access, Excellent Service, Amazing View
Disadvantages: Nothing

...with lots of variety. You can have breakfast in the pool's area, in your room or outside in your balcony, having in front of you the volcano and the beautiful caldera!!! The location of Pegasus must be mentioned to, as it is the best in the village.. The pool and rooms were spacious and bathrooms wonderful and also without fault. All the materials used a first quality and everything is beautifully put together. Overall we had a great time and it's a good base for exploring. We would like to thank them for the great service, interesting design, and very good food. We will definitely return to this place. Finally, if you read this review make sure that you will go to Pegasus Suites one day....you won't be disappointed!...

The volcano Nea Kameni really is a holiday hot spot.

Advantages: walking on a volcano is a once in a life time experience
Disadvantages: walking on a volcano is very hot and tiring.

...First of all, a quick hurrah - after many technical problems I am finally back in Ciao, so apologies to those to whose comments I have not responded - that's why. Right, the Dieng Plateau. This is essentially a high altitude plane created by the caldera of an ancient volcano in central Java. It's star attractions are a coloured sulpher lake, some very ancient hindu temples, sulpher mines, mud geysers and some truly stunning scenery. It does, however, have its drawbacks, of which more later. So let's deal with these one by one. First of all, the plain itself. It's pretty big, several kilometers across, and hard to get to. From the nearest big city it's a three-bus trip of some seven hours, so doesn't make sense as a day trip. But it's worth it when you get there, the clean cold air a welcome change ffrom the polluted humidity...

The entire Kona range is famous for their long-lasting and sturdy frames; however at times this does sometimes come at a cost as they are often under-specced for the money in comparison to competitor's offerings in this price bracket. The paint job is a sort of burnished orange which is very unique. The Marzocchi MZ fork is an integral part of this bike's success. Kona finally treats us to an XC bike with the lockout feature at this price. The quick flick of the lever cancels out the threat of pedal bob when cycling uphill while retaining the ability to turn it back again into a fairly stiff suspension fork.
