The "H-Top Olympic Hotel",Calella.
Advantages: Good Value short break
Disadvantages: Had to come home too soon!!
..."next door noise" could be heard through the walls.I spoke to the two guys over the terrace railing next morning about this, and it turned out they were from a couple of miles up the road from where we live! I found the food fine, and ate far,far too much!Right;we wouldn't choose this resort or hotel for a future holiday-not as first choices, anyway. One,because we've now been there, done that;as the T-shirt is rumoured to proclaim;and Two;we prefer the Hotel "Planamar"(Another "H-Top") along the coast in Malgrat'. The calibre of people who wrote the damning reviews I read must socially be far higher than mine. ....but,most of these were dated '05/'06.Perhaps they were taken note of. Thanks for reading this;apologies for its bulk. Mike,Manchester PS,for holidays on the 'Brava,we'll always compare prices/spec. with a local operator...

A Class Act On The Costa Brava
Advantages: Beautiful Villa, Scenic Location
Disadvantages: A little too isolated?
...The Villa is certainly aptly named. Perched on a hillside high above the historic fishing port of Palamos, El Mirador (which translates as 'the Lookout' in Spanish) commands spectacular, panoramic vistas along the coastline and across the fringes of the beautiful Costa Brava.
We had driven southwards from Girona, towards Palamos, then Calonge. At this point, the crumpled, supplied directions from the owner were tugged out, and we had pressed on. El Mirador, it seemed, was up there on the hill, at the very edge of Calonge. The road wound its way through a fairly modern development, a slightly confused melange of poorly signposted streets, each street lined with new, look-a-like villas, and each villa as attractively bland and featureless as the next. Finally, we passed an older house near the top, with a rocky front garden peopled...

L'Estartit, Costa Brava
Advantages: Wonderful beach, small town which hasn't been overdeveloped and still retains it's fishing village charm
Disadvantages: Only one road into resort which gets extremely busy during high season, town centre can be noisy late at night in high season
...L'Estartit started out as a small fishing village, located on the Costa Brava in the Gerona region of Catalunya. Today it is a great resort for the tourist, offering a wide range of accomodation, bars, restaurants and a wonderful beach, without ruining the atmosphere of a small seaside town.
The town is located at the foot of a small mountain, known as the Rocamaura, and this gives the town a great deal of natural beauty from wherever in town you happen to be. The side of the mountain is covered in trees, with a rock peak: and there are villas located on it. You can walk up and have a stroll around the inhabited part of the mountain either by a huge flight of steps, or via a couple of roads just off the Santa Ana street, or by the road near Castell Montgri campsite. It's a good walk for a morning stroll if you're feeling energetic...

Costa Brava
Advantages: Not too crowded, good accommodation, good weather, Spanish culture
Disadvantages: Barcelona's traffic, lack of genuine sandy beaches
...for the lack of genuine sandy beaches, I came across only 1, at Aigua Blava.
Still, there was alot to do in and around the area. I spent a day taking in Barcelona, which is somewhere you must go to, and another day in the nearby town of Girona, famous for bull fights, although there was plenty to do otherwise, and there was an incredible range of ice cream flavours.
Staying on the coasts, the resorts of Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell were good to look around in the evening, and both had excellent Mini-Golf courses, if that matters, which it does to me.
One thing lacking from the Costa Brava was good restaurants, bud my advice for that is to go inland. Personally, the best restaurants i've been to were in the Algarve. Spain is also alot cheaper than France, but more expensive than Portugal (for an in depth opinion on the Algarve, see my...

EXPLORE the wonders of the COSTA BRAVA
Advantages: See Opinion
Disadvantages: See opinion
...and small exibitions of works by artists who have settled there.
*Calella de la Costa:This was once a tiny fishing village and is today a very popular resort where the main accomodation is in villas. It has a long, tree lined sea front promenade and a lovely long sandy beach.
*Estartit:Estartit is the northern Costa Brava`s main resort. It is a major yachting centre. It was a small fishing port until the tourist boom began. The enermous sandy beaches remains the main attraction and the basis for the towns extensive tourist development.
*La Escala:This is a modern resort and fishing town. Its an attractive town. One of its most colourful sights is the array of fishing boats. Also has lots of modern hotels.
These are just a few of many large and small resorts scattered along the vast coast of Costa Brava.A coast that draws thousands of visitors...

Costa Brava costs less
Advantages: Cheap and cheerfull, with loadsa sunshine
Disadvantages: nothing springs to mind
...Well what can i say, its so good i'm already booked and waiting to go back again soon.
I found the Costa Brava a very friendly and welcoming place to visit.
I stayed at Calella, but along the coast line you will find, Tossa del mar,Llorett de mar,Malgrat de Mar,Santa Sussanah and Pineda, all these towns are within a few minutes train ride away, they are even linked by a small land train service, which only costs a couple of Euro's for the return tickets, this way also enables you to take an extensive tour of the towns and discover what each has on offer.
There is an outside market every day in the towns, your Hotel etc will happily supply you with the information on which market, day and town. These markets are full of all the usual knock of versions of top named brand goods, for example Doulcie and Gabbana belts for 10 euro's, come...

Costa Brava, The Hotel in the Sun,, that Shines
Advantages: Sun Sand Sea and sangria what more can you want
Disadvantages: holiday is never long enough
...Hotel Costa Brava, Tossa De Mar,
Situated in the Spanish/ Catalonia region on the Costa Brava
The three star Costa Brava hotel in Tossa de Mar is situated approximately 200 metres from the beach and 150 metres from the resort centre. Barcelona is only 48 miles away and easily accessible from the nearby train service, which runs approx every 20 minutes.
Tossa itself is full of many small shop, bars, café's and restaurants, there is also a land train service, which runs about every 20 minutes, for a couple of Euros' it will take you all around resort, or jump of at its many stops, there is a large weekly market, for all your bargains and holiday trinkets.
A very nice beach is close to, clean, well looked after and plenty of facilities including water sports, and snack bars, all of which is across the main road, but...

Tamariu- a hidden treasure of the Costa Brava
Advantages: Quiet and tranquil, breathtaking scenery, not too commercialised.
Disadvantages: none
...Step back about 30 years and my parents headed off with my brother and sister to a small village in the North of Spain- Calella de Palafrugell. When they arrived tired after a long and strainous train journey, and hot and sticky from the midday sun it was siesta time and they had to sit in a cafe ordering drinks whilst waiting for the estate agent to open to first of all change their money and secondly get the key to their apartment. Instantly they fell in love with this town and continued to come here every year until 1990. At this point they decided that there were just a few too many British tourists coming to this place, but this did not end their travels to spain. Instead they chose to take their annual holiday in a slightly smaller village- Tamariu.
Both Calella and Tamariu, along with Llafranc are three fishing villages...

The Hotel Osiris in Calella
Advantages: Weather, facilities
Disadvantages: Sea temperature, noise
...My girlfriend and I took our first holiday abroad together to Calella and stayed in the Osiris for a week in June 2003.
We've had better nights sleep in Club 18-30 hotels!!!!!!!!
First impressions
Our first impression of the Osiris was that it was a very nice and posh hotel. From the outside it looks just like the brochure, the scenic lift is very atractive. The reception staff seemed very disorganised when we checked in; After a long wait we were shuffled in front of a digital camera for individual mugshots but they failed to tell us what they were for. It was only when we returned a couple of hours later did we realise they were for our all-inclusive identification. They asked us to return later to pick up armbands! The hotel is predominately English, although you may get the odd German and Belgian family. Most guests were...

350m from the beach and perfect!
Advantages: Location, all-inclusive, cleanliness, friendly staff, pool
Disadvantages: Repetitive food, tiny lifts
...I just got back from a week-long holiday in Calella with my partner. We stayed at Bon Repos hotel for 5 nights on an all-inclusive package. For clarity & thoroughness, I am dividing my review into categories, so you may get a better idea of each aspect of the hotel itself.
APPEARANCE
Bon Repos is very clean and functional. The entire ground floor is public space for the guests. The dining room is quite large and only got crowded at peak times during dinner. The bar has been recently completely refurbished, we were informed, and there is large space indoors for relaxing/drinking/hanging out. There is a large smoking room for those who do not wish to go outside. There is also a TV lounge with sofas and chairs near the bar. Bon Repos was always clean while we were there, with the bar & cleaning staff always picking up trash...
