...How long it passed since Yorkshire lads dropped their trousers off, showing grace in the name of women? It's been a good six years since those Yorkshire lads dropped their trousers in the name of wholesome goodness in 'The Full Monty". But recently, we have "Calendar Girls", female version of that. I must say that this female version actually happened in real life. "Calendar girls" is more charming and alluring than "The Full Monty" ever was. Kind of film that you can always go for, the whole family I mean, in every moment, under any mood or age. Congratulations! It's a calendar.

Advantages: Emotional, Sentimental but fun
Disadvantages: A bit slow at times

...on the friendship between Chris and Annie. Calendar Girls is loosely based on the true story about the ladies of the Rylestone WI, who back in 1999 set about creating their infamous charity calendar. I say loosely, as with any true story, there is always a certain amount of poetic license used when adapting them to the big screen. In the case of the Calendar Girls, the use of poetic license is more than justified, as it helps to make this film a very enjoyable and warm tale. What is really enjoyable about this film and true stories in general, is that the plot is on the whole original and unique, which makes a change from the formula driven films which are the mainstay of the movie industry. The film is a whole mixture of genres with the emphasis being on the subtle comedy, but included in this, you have plenty of drama and a nice touch...

My Review: Calendar Girls

Advantages: Excellent, heartwarming comedy
Disadvantages: No disadvantages to list

...-warmingly funny scenes. Once they get a photographer and agree how the poses should be done, including tastefully posing as if they are doing WI crafts! they are in business. Could it all get out of hand though when they start shooting to success? There is all sorts of media interest and the calendar starts selling out. Could all this success drive a wedge between the two friends as the original idea of raising funds goes out of sight? Watch this to see the conclusion. This film really is a remarkable tale of the struggles of overcoming grief and the determination of a group of feisty & inspiring women. If you purchase this on DVD it includes interview with the real women of this true story. I hope you have enjoyed the review and will consider watching Calendar Girls....
