Cambridge Audio DVD player with HDMI
Review of Cambridge Audio DVD 86 by sjhill

Advantages: HDMI Out, DIVX support, mp3 support
Disadvantages: Too many buttons on the remote! Slow eject button response.

...This stylish and reasonably priced DVD player from Cambridge Audio retails for approx £150. For a DVD player with HDMI (Digital) out, that is one of the more reasonable priced models on the market at the moment. The player will take a moment to recognise disks, but once it has found which format the disk is, I have found playback to be flawless. It can play normal DVDs (PAL), also DVDs from the USA (NTSC) and DIVX encoded video. Although I have not tried it, it can apparently play disks with mp3 music on them. If you need to set the unit up beyond just plugging in cables, then the basic on screen configuration is straightforward. You will need to refer to the manual for the advanced configuration of the unit (if you have a complicated or non-standard HiFi setup). Just connecting this unit up in the most obvious manner - SCART, etc... Read review

QUALITY DVD PLAYER FOR UNDER £100
Review of Cambridge Audio DVD57 by iiyama1000

Advantages: PLAYS AUDIO CD'S AND DVD'S
Disadvantages: NONE

...I would like to tell you about my experiences with the Cambridge audio DVD 57.This machine is very well equipped and competitively priced, currently at only £99.95 from richer sounds. To my knowledge, it is not available elsewhere as richer sounds are the sole retailer of Cambridge audio products. That in itself is not a problem, as richer sounds have shops in most major towns throughout the U.K. FEATURES: This machine comes with progressive scan, a feature not normally found on DVD players with a price tag this low. Basically, if you own a TV, plasma screen or LCD with component video inputs, then progressive scan will give you a much clearer picture with much less flicker than normal. All you need are a set of leads... Read review

Nicely done, Cambridge Audio.
Review of Cambridge Audio AZUR 540D by NomisG

Advantages: Great playback of CD as well as DVD
Disadvantages: None that come to mind.

.... I hate to hear music from a CD played in some sort of psuedo surround mode. Even concert DVD's just don't seem right to me in surround. (And I've heard £50,000+ systems too!!) When did you ever go to a concert where some of the musicians were behind you? Or even to the side, for that matter. Music should be listened to coming from (preferably) just 2 speakers in front of you, IMHO. Don't even let me get started on the subject of subwoofers... End Tangent! The Cambridge Audio Azure 540D is a very capable player. It has all the connectivity you are likely to need other than HDMI (I'm on a bit of a downer on HDMI at the moment, so I don't see that as an ommission) but including a very good downmixed stereo sound out (Jargon decode - it makes surround sound encoded music DVD's sound nice ;-) ). In summary, I would buy one without hesitation... Read review

Go get it!
Review of Cambridge Audio AZUR 640 C by pegglybum

Advantages: Stunning appearnace, easy to use, good components, low price
Disadvantages: remote isnt the easiest to use

...Description Wolfson WM8740 24-bit/192kHz DAC, 117dB S/N ratio -88dB THD, low jitter clock with data reclocking, separate power supply for DAC, custom Cambridge Audio servo solution, co-axial and optical digital outputs, proven Sony laser optics, custom Cambridge Audio transport, low-resonance and acoustically damped chassis, all-metal casework with a solid aluminium front panel, slim-line Azur remote control with aluminium top panel. General Information This is one brilliant CD player: high-end sound at a low-end price (always a bonus) beautifully built (all-metal chassis, sturdy aluminum remote) and solid features, including goldplated cinch terminals and both RCA and toslink digital outputs. Packaging This wouldnt usually deserve a major mention but well, you're in for a big surprise when you open the box as no features are given... Read review

Cambridge Audio AZUR 640A
Review of Cambridge Audio AZUR 640A by musicdave

Advantages: Great design, great price, very well built
Disadvantages: Plastic connectors at the back but no real drawback

...I spent ages looking for a good amp and went to LOADS of different shops looking at them. I must say that the design was up there in importance with the sound then i saw the Cambridge Audio AZUR range. The build quality is amazing, the remote control quality is AMAZING and the blue LED lights on the unit are lush! Obviously the quality that you get from the amp depends on the the speakers and the other devices you have plugged into it but you could not go far wrong with more Cambridge Audio devices. I bought the matching AZUR cd player, which works off the same remote control meaning that you only need to use the one, and as you get one with each device you have one spare incase anything happens. Also, a little tip. If you go into richer sounds to buy it, and want to buy more than one thing at once, such as an AMP and the CD player... Read review

Professional Quality For High street prices
Review of Cambridge Audio A5 by cld412

Advantages: cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: chunky

...of that weight is due to the mains transformer, ensuring there is plenty in reserve for the best moments of your banging tunes. To show their class they (Cambridge audio) labelled the terminals upside-down to ease connections when looking over the top of the amp. This just shows the thought they have put into this amp. There are inputs for Tape/Minidisk, Aux/Phono, AV/DVD, CD, and Tuner, along with low-level outputs for recording and for feeding to another power amplifier. The terminal speaker outputs are binding posts which are my personal favourite since they fit most cables. Due care has been given to the finish on this product along with the buttons on the front which all have just enough resistance to show their quality. Performance wise there is virtually no amp impedance on the softest of melodies. The realism you get from the A5 makes... Read review

You Don't Need a Degree To Go To Cambridge!!!
Review of Cambridge Audio A500 by iiyama1000

Advantages: Great Sound Quality, Superb Value. It even Has a Remote Control!!!!
Disadvantages: At This Price, None Worth Talking about.

...I bought this amplifier on ebay as a backup for my other system. I only paid £60 for it and it has turned out to be the best bargain i have ever bought!!! This amplifier is rated at 65 watts per channel into 8 ohms and has plenty of power in reserve. It has seperate bass and treble controls and a direct button, which bypasses the tone controls and routes the sound directly to the power amplifier stage, assuring the user of the best possible sound. This amp has connections for tape/md in and record out, aux/phono (although to use a turntable, you will need a seperate phono stage), av/dvd/md/tape2, cd and tuner. It also has pre-outs to enable the connection of a power amp, as well as connections for one set of speakers, which are bi-wireable, to further improve the sound. When i first got the amp, i disconnected my existing... Read review

Amazing Cambridge Audio 640 c CD player
Review of Cambridge Audio AZUR 640 C by musicdave

Advantages: price - looks - build quality
Disadvantages: Not anything major

...What can i say about the Cambridge Audio Azur CD player. WELL...... its CLASS! The design is amazing with the blue LCD power light and the very clear LCD screen to show what track you are on. The remote control is very well built and heavy, not in a bad way but in a way that shows the quality. Another advantage about the remote is that it works with all AZUR products. I currently have the CD player and the AMP and they work perfectly together and all by using the one remote control. There is only one little thing that i could possible comment on that they could have improved on. If your lazy like me and have the CD tray open and do not want to press the close button then the off button it will not automatically shut the tray for you. It turns off and leaves it open. Even my £10.00 CD player does that. But out of everything... Read review

Live Lives!
Review of Creative Labs Soundblaster Live!   by thepanther

Advantages: Great Music card, lots of features
Disadvantages: Positional Audio is not as good as A3D's

...The sound blaster Live card is without a shadow of a doubt the best music card available today, surpassed only by the platinum version, if you are into listning to music or making it then this is certainly the card for you. The features are endless, and bundled with the Cambridge Soundworks FPS1000 surround speakers you can have a totally submersable experience. With surround speakers you can control exactly where the sound comes from, if you are mixing music you can control some sounds to come from the left and others from the back etc, you really do have total control. The uniqueness of the Live series of cards has to be Creatives EAX (Environmental Audio Extensions) This features offers echo and reverb effects that can simulate the sounds in different surroundings. For example in a concert hall sounds can be absorbed and flattened... Read review

The Cambridge Audio A1 MK3 - Sounds?
Review of Cambridge Audio A1 Mkiii by jasonjansari

Advantages: Design, black finish, sleek, modern
Disadvantages: The Cambridge Audio name outways the product in this instance

...This amplifier looks like a bargain, with a price tag at Richer Sounds for around about £85 and the Cambridge Audio brand name attached to it, it must be, mustn't it? Not really, no - as good as it looks in the window, when I took it home and used it, the sound quality was not nearly as sharp as I would have hoped. I have a pair of great speakers and this amp wouldn't do them any justice. It has the regular bass and treble nobs on the front, a large volume nob, and a balance function, however you won't be able to turn the volume up passed a third as it then dissapointingly starts to distort! Reading magazines such as What Hi-Fi, and Which? leads you to believe that Cambridge Audio is a brand wherby you cannot go wrong in terms of sound quality. I think this amplifier is aimed at the student market, due to the fairly cheap price tag... Read review
