The Colleges of Cambridge University
Advantages: High scholastic standards. Many are beautiful
Disadvantages: Very competitive
...The University of Cambridge, one of the most famous and renowned universities in the world has a long and illustrious history, and is organised on a collegiate system. Many well known figures in history are graduates of Cambridge including Wordsworth, Bertrand Russell, LOrd Keynes, and former Indian prime minister Mr Nehru and nobel laureates such as AK Sen. What follows is a short round-up of some of its well-known colleges and their famous former students.
Clare
Clare College, is the second oldest college, originally founded in 1326 as University Hall. In 1338 Lady Elizabeth of Clare refounded the college calling it Clare Hall, it was renamed Clare College in 1856. It is one of the most beautiful colleges and is hugely popular. Famous alumni include Hugh Latimer (Protestant reformer), Siegfried Sassoon, Lord Cornwallis...

University Arms - Cambridge - The Low Down
Advantages: central with good quality communal facilities
Disadvantages: expensive for the quality of bedrooms
...As many Ciao regulars know I have just got married and this is my first, and possibly most boring (!), review since then. It was always my dream, from a young child (1) to get married and (2) to go to university at Cambridge. I am now proud to say that I have managed both! What is even better is that as a result of studying in Cambridge I was able to get married there. Although I got married in Sidney Sussex, my old college, commerciality being what it is I was unable to hold my wedding reception there as the "might get a conference booking for that weekend" (clearly more lucrative than a wedding reception)! Still, I was determined to get married in college and so set about finding a suitable reception venue.
+++ Location +++
Cambridge City Centre itself is pretty compact and so almost all of the major hotels that are...

The Truth about Cambridge Uni
Advantages: friendly people, hundreds of clubs and societies to join, good welfare support system, excellent lecturing and tutoring, unique opportunities, formal hall, good accommodation, great atmosphere
Disadvantages: nightlife is not that great compared to some other UK cities
...I have just graduated from Cambridge, after doing a three year degree course. The thing i was most nervous about before going was whether i would fit in or not - would it be full of eccentric people, or stereotypical public school types?
I needn't have worried. Whilst everyone is obviously intelligent, i found everyone i met to be nice and normal, ordinary people. They all go down the pub, to the cinema, out clubbing and so on. Just like my friends from home. In fact I do not think i had one bad incident in all my time there - so do not worry about the company. You will fit in.
The great thing is that there is a niche for everyone. I doubt there are more clubs or societies at any other university, there really is something for everyone, whether it be a sport, journalism or something else completely. The opportunities are endless...

Worcester University
Advantages: Accomodation, Student Union, Sports, Clubs, Library, IT, History
Disadvantages: Expense
...I've been here getting on for around a week now and I must say that I have had an excellent time so far. Before accepting the offer to go Worcester I travelled to it to investigate it and to see if it was for me. After travelling around some of the other universitys that I got into I came to the conclusion that this one was more for me conpared to any of the others.
Size
*********
I've found that its small which makes it quaint in my eyes and from my opinion however I find a city that is huge can be a little too big and can appear scary and overwhelming at times. Worcesters size is perfect offering up Night Clubs, Food, Shops and culture.
The University was originally opened as an emergency teaching college until only recently in the last few years it has been granted the ability to become a university. This means it has being...

Anglia Ruskin University - Cambridge
Advantages: Campus university, nice city, varied degree programs
Disadvantages: can be disorganised
...Well for starters, the university is now called Anglia Ruskin University. Why did this happen? Well i believe it was to remove the "polytechnic" from the name and to help change the image of the university. As to whether this worked or not... The jurys out.
So whats Anglia like? It is made up of campuses and regional colleges, with the main two campuses at Chelmsford and Cambridge. I went to the Cambridge campus and this is what this review is based on.
The cambridge campus is on the new side of town..ie. not with the cambridge university colleges in amongst the old bricks. Within a 5 minute walk is a VUE multiscreen cinema and the Grafton Centre Shops (offering most things), and a 10 minute walk takes you to the old town where more shops are and generally most of the nightlife. Between both sides of the town, everything is...

De Vere hotel in the centre of Cambridge!
Advantages: Great location, nice rooms, friendly
Disadvantages: Parking charge, busy area
...there start from about £110 but you can pay for for the suites with the four poster beds which are lovely. You do have to pay to park as well which is quite annoying, it is £14 a day which is quite expensive but is what you get with hotels in the city.
Cambridge itself has lots of great things to do, the shops are good and then of course there is all teh old university buildings to look around, take a trip down the river cam etc.
They have a ncie restaurant called 17 which is adjacent to the htoel and there is also a bar as well with excellent big couches that you can slop on and a lovely fire.
The rooms were fairly big, all on suite and room service went til quite late. The decor inside is quite oldy world, with lots of dark wood but very nicely maintained. The staff were very friendly and offered lots of advice on what to do during...

University Life
Advantages: reputation, sports, teaching
Disadvantages: on a hill, shops + banks
...Having been a fresher here at bath for 8 weeks now I feel the need, nay, duty to write a review on the university. I've already done a freshers review on "things beginning with F" if you want to hear about how great (or rather average) freshers week was. But this is going to focus more on the university.
I'm currently on a 4 year physics masters course here at Bath.
--------------------
Reputation
--------------------
I don't believe in league tables and all that rubbish. The trend seems to be that the more time the university spends on fiddling it's figures to make it look good, the less time it can spend on teaching.
I didn't apply to Oxford or Cambridge for two reasons. Firstly, I wouldn't be able to get in. Secondly I know it would be full of people who only applied because of the name and who could succeed better...

The University of Birmingham
Advantages: Great teaching, facilities, opportunites and social life
Disadvantages: i am only here for 3 years, wish it could be more.
...I am a student at the University of Birmingham in my first year of the popular course; Sports and Exercise Sciences. Although it is a difficult university to get in to, there are hundreds of different courses to choose from if you are not accepted on your favoured course. Also, they are quite lenient with grades as I did not achieve the expected marks but still got in... shhh!
So what made Birmingham my number one choice? As soon as I arrived at the open day and got a walk around the campus I knew this was the place for me. Not only is it one of the leading universities in the UK for my course it is a beautiful place to study with its landmark clock tower, luscious all weather pitches and modern redbrick buildings. I felt right at home here and could picture myself studying here for the future.
The Campus is located in Selly Oak...

My University
Advantages: great place, great people
Disadvantages: new so still improving
...Introduction
I have been a student at the University of Gloucestershire for 2 years now. I am on a year out, but will be going back to do my 3rd and final year to complete my Business Management degree. My time at the university has been very memorable and I am looking forward to going back and finishing my course. I have thought about whether I made the right decision choosing this university over the large number of other universities available around the country, but I do not regret the decision I have made. I have made many great friends and love the environment of the university.
Campuses
The University of Gloucestershire is split up into four campuses: Park, Francis Close Hall, Oxstalls and Pittville.
Park campus is known as 'The Business School'. Those studying any business related courses, hospitality...

Nottingham Trent University
Advantages: Great Uni. Fact!
Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!
...So, having just finished at Nottingham Trent University it made perfect sense to make this brief review on the place...trust me if I reviewed every aspect of life here that I've experienced it would equate to the length of War & Peace!
Trent is officially the leading "new" university in the country and is predominantly a city-based campus, with two other campuses located at Clifton (about 5 miles south of the city) and Brackenhurst (a very rural campus based to the north-east). I spend three years there and had an awesome time.
In my first year I was based at the Simpsons Halls of Residence, which are in the Lenton area of Nottingham. Although not the nicest area of the city, the halls were certainly some of the best. Having had coursemates and friends who were located at other halls such as Hampden and Sandby which are much closer...
