Campanile Hotel, Glasgow
Advantages: nice rooms
Disadvantages: nothing major
...After deciding to take a trip to Glasgow for a few days, my husband and I set out to find a good value hotel. After looking at the usual Travelodges and Premier Travel Inns, we came across the Campanile hotel which is like the French version of Travelodge. It was 52 pounds a night and had a secure car park, something which we found very good as parking in Glasgow tends to be quite expensive. Although the price was good we decided to shop around and managed to book 3 nights for 122 pounds on Expedia.
The location of the hotel was very good as it was in the newly upgraded and developed area near the SECC and surrounding the hotel was luxury apartments, the new Clyde Arc bridge, the new STV and BBC Scotland studios and the SECC and Glasgow Science Centre. It was 20 minutes walking to the Kelvingrove Art Museum and the Transport...

Campanile - A Disney Escape!
Advantages: Clean, Tidy, Friendly Staff
Disadvantages: Rooms could be bigger.
...Campanile as it is part of the same group of companies. We complained to the manager of the Premiere Classe hotel and insisted on being given a room in the Campanile as it was right next door.
I'm sorry to say that I am one of those tourists who never really tries too hard to pick up the local language but I studied French for my GCSE's, albeit many years ago, and so was disappointed to learn that the staff at this hotel did not speak English. I guess disappointed is the wrong word but in lieu of a better one, it stays. The lady at the front desk could not speak a word of English but was very very helpful and friendly. My limited French did not really aid the situation but she knew that one of the guests was English and spoke fluent French and so asked him to help. She resolved the problem very quickly and gave us a room for the duration...

Campanile Bargain!
Advantages: Very cheap and clean
Disadvantages: None
...We decided to go away somewhere (not too far) for a week and found we could stop at the Campanile in Redditch for £90 for 4 nights, bargain!
We didn't expect much for our money and when we got there we were told out room wasn't quite ready but much to our suprise we were offered free drinks at the bar while we waited and it was free for our dogs to stay with us too!
The room inside was very clean and tidy.
We discovered on the second day that we could get wireless internet in our room.
The room was tidied and restocked for us every day.
The local area was also very good for walking the dogs.
All in all the price we payed was an absolute bargain, ok it's not the ritz but for £90 for 4 nights it was brilliant, so much so we've stayed their twice....

Bordeax est jolli. Bordeaux is beautiful
Advantages: Beautiful, lots going on, many shops
Disadvantages: Lots of graffiti
...I vistied Bordeuax in the summer for the Bristol-Bordeaux exchange. This consisted of me going to Bordeaux for two weeks trying to improve my French. It worked!
there is a lot of great features in Bordeaux. the airoport was the first thing i saw. It was very clean and ran on time.
I then was on the road where you see all the vine yards and big houses. the only bad thing was the amount of grafiti. this was probably becasue i was driving through a bad suburb.
The shops in Bordeaux are very good with a huge selection of shops. The main shopping street is about 1km long (well so i was told.) they had all the good English shops which were a little cheaper. Those of you who know how much Quicksilver costs will be suprised that you could buy shirts for 5euro about 3-4 pounds. Then they had my favourite shop which i think should be...

Ibis Bordeaux Centre Meriadeck
Advantages: Cheap and cheerful, central location secure car parking
Disadvantages: Not far from fire station and police HQ, the sirens!
...sleeper you can't hear the noise anymore.
The rooms sleep 3 comfortably in a double and a bed sofa, they have a colour TV with some english channels, mainly news programmes. The bathroom is ensuite and well maintained, there is a shower and a half bath, which is particularly useless unless your a child or a vertically challenged person. The shower is detatchable and high pressured. Toileteries are supplied.
The down side is there is no air conditioning, but when your staying in a room costing about £28 what would you expect.
The breakfast is not included in the price , but is only about £6 and its eat all you like with hot, cold and cereal options. I have never had an evening meal there, Bordeaux has far too many other choices!
There is plenty of tourist information in the reception area and if you ask at reception they will give...

Take your own mug
Advantages: Cheap and cheerful!
Disadvantages: Don't expect the Ritz
...Background
After booking a holiday in France, and then realising just how far I would have to travel by car with two children, it soon became evident that an overnight stop would be in order. The holiday brochure had a list of suggested hotels and among them was the Campanile chain. Being the queen of internet browsing I soon hit upon a website and found that many major towns in France appear to have a Campanile hotel. Now I was well aware that these are "budget" hotels, but was equally aware that after nine hours in the car I quite frankly wouldn't care what the place was like, as long as the bed looked clean.
First Appearances
After driving for hours, made to feel even longer as the first "Are we there yet?" came within 25 minutes of leaving the house, I was relieved to find the hotel. It was well signposted and true to...

In my Place
Advantages: ***
Disadvantages: ***
...I don't know if I'm the best existing guide to visit Bordeaux, but for sure I love my city. French people see it as a posh city, whereas tourists instantly associated it with renowned wines. Bordeaux also got a very particular history, not exactly one to be proud of, but here it is, and the city inherited very beautiful and gorgeous monuments from the past. And the city being very dynamic and full of a student population, it's quite a place to visit !
First, you have to know Bordeaux is located in the South West of France, down by the Garonne river. The life here is quite smooth for summers are often very hot and sunny whereas winters would spare us from too bad weathers. Spring, however, remains the best season to come and visit the area, the air is still soft and the sun already shining brightly. Eventually, automn in Bordeaux...

Lands of wine and good living
Advantages: capital of wine, high gastronomy, historic monuments, many tours and trips, disabled friendly
Disadvantages: too many things to do, tours prices can be steep
...Here is another French town I had the chance to visit thanks to sport championships. I travelled mostly all over France and despite the sport event we had the possibility to discover the places we were competing in.
Bordeaux has about 214 633 inhabitants and is one major French city. It is in the south Middle West and is part of the Aquitaine region. Wine lovers will be delighted to walk into the largest vineyard in the world. The wealth of the Bordeaux wine is huge and you are spoiled for choice. You can easily walk in a wine merchant who will be happy to give advice. You also will have the privilege to have a taste…Just few famous wine names: Chateau Medoc, St Emilion, Sauternes, Graves, Cotes de Bourg, Cotes de Blaye, Entre Deux Mers…they all have a controlled label and you can visit the luxurious cellars.
It has...

Plonk
Advantages: Good contrast between secret and public personal lives
Disadvantages: Little sense of atmosphere
...In the village of Montmaur in heart of the buccolic French countryside lived three women: kind hearted Maude Haunt (married to Horatio); Lady Emma (married to rich, fat banker David); and Daffy Duff-Fielding, abandoned by husband Timothy for his mistress (and secretary) Lucy.
The region around Bordeaux, renowned for its vineyards, is apparently home to many expats who have settled there in search of the good life - French wine, food and sunshine. As the oily mayor Bertinard notes, they generally contribute little to the local economy, being mostly broke or going broke, whilst sending their chilren to local schools (and presumably paying their taxes).
Among this community is hunky builder/former chef Jean Baptiste (think Jean-Christophe Novelli, the TV chef and you get a fair picture), the Haunts' two children Tiffany...

HOW OTHERS LIVE IN FRANCE ?
Advantages: Fun in places, though not many. Good start.
Disadvantages: Weak storyline.
...BORDEAUX HOUSEWIVES.
There is only one word that suitably describes this book. I thought about it for a long time, and came to the conclusion that "silly" was the word in question. Daisy Waugh has written quite a lot of books, although this is the first I remember reading, and perhaps will be the last, if this is the quality of storytelling that is typical of her style.
The book tempted me because it is about Brits in France, and I am one of this number, and it always interests me how an author has dealt with the subject matter, since many have been a disappointment, and do not really show how the life over here is, and even though they may be fiction, seem so biased against integration in many ways, which annoys me. This book, however, began in a promising manner introducing the Haunt family, with Horatio and Maude Haunt, being...
