...The idea of a holiday in Canada was one that had crossed my mind a few times in the past, without me ever getting past the vague planning stage. It always seemed too far away, too expensive, or just too much like hard work... but then back in early 2008, I happened to see a mail from Condor offering cheap flights to destinations all over the world. Normally I wouldn't bother clicking on any of the links, but one line in particular caught my eye: "Fly to Halifax, Nova Scotia, for ?99 per person". And there really were still seats available at that price - not during high season of course, but we'd heard that autumn on the eastern seaboard really is a great time to visit, so this was an offer we couldn't refuse. Should you be considering a visit to Nova Scotia, don't be put off by the idea of travelling outside of the traditional summer...

...If you are ever deciding to fly to Canada, always be sure to check out their own airline before hopping onto a British Airways flight. Air Canada is simply one of the best airlines I have flown on. Their staff are warm and friendly, their fleet is modern and comfortable and the whole company are a 1st class outfit. Blame (Air) Canada

Advantages: decent service, good flight itinerary
Disadvantages: pervading sense of incompetence, baggage disasters

...I've just got back from an exhausting but cracking holiday to the States, and strange as it may seem to write an op straight away, I find myself in that jet-lagged, zombified state in which little else is possible, and I want to write about my treatment at the hands of Air Canada before I forget the fine, scintillating details... Thomas Cook Tour. Eastern Canada

Advantages: Guided tour, Spendid views, Great company.
Disadvantages: Occasional extra costs

...The Saint Lawrentian of Eastern Canada is an excellent way of discovering this part of Canada as my wife and I found out during Sept/Oct 2000. On this tour were 44 people from different walks of life, and we got on well with all of them. This made a great atmosphere, especially in the hotels. All the hotels are hand-picked by Thomas Cook and are of high quality. (minimum 4*). Thomas Cook have a holiday manager with you from your arrival at Heathrow airport, right through your tour until you arrive back at Heathrow. You are treated to Executive lounge facilities at the airport until your flight is called. Included are free drinks and nibbles. The tour of Canada commences in Montreal. West Coast Canada shows off it's Asian credentials

Circa 97o.ooo inhabitants live in Calgary! HOW TO COME THERE? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the winter there are few nonstop connections from Europe to Calgary. From Frankfurt there is a daily connection with Air Canada to Calgary (codesharing with Lufthansa), Air Transat also offers flights from Frankfurt and London-Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow. Air Canada? Fine by me!

Advantages: Worked as advertised
Disadvantages: Nothing worth talking of

...that we were left with the choices of flying into Seattle or Vancouver, and returning from Calgary or Edmonton. This would involve a one-way car hire, which we discovered, not unreasonably becomes much more difficult if one collects and drops the car in different countries. Therefore our entry port became Vancouver, returning through Calgary because the flights worked better with what we wanted to do. During the initial search for flights, British Airways, Air Canada and American Airlines stood out as being the most keenly priced. As the plans became more developed, American dropped out of the reckoning when both flights were routed through Canada. A few misses, mainly hits with Air Canada

...Air Canada On my recent trip to Toronto from Manchester (sse my review of the Hilton Toronto!), I decided to fly using the direct service form Manchester to Toronto. This direct route operates daily departing Manchester at 11.35 and arriving mid-afternoon. It departs Toronto for the return flight at 10pm arriving back in Manchester mid-morning. During the summer (and peak tourist) months, the airline adjusts its two class system from Business and Economy and Premium Economy and Economy. With basic economy flights starting at around £350.00 & taxes, we opted for the premium economy flights at a price of £500.00 & taxes (approx £612.00 per person flying). Advantages: Helps guide you around other countries. Easy to install

...TomTom Map of the USA and Canada Maps TomTom Maps are a 2gb SD card with route maps stored on them that are made to work with the TomTom satellite navigation system. They originally come with UK/Europe maps so these are a brilliant upgrade if you are considering taking your car abroad or hiring a car and driving over there. These are a lot easier than using a standard map when you are visiting another country and make getting around easy. We have just bought one of these as we are planning a trip to the USA and decided one of these would be useful. I have never been abroad so certainly wont know my way around. It was very easy to install onto the TomTom. We also decided the points of interest feature would be really useful as we use the UK based one on our current maps a lot.
