Canada's Ocean Playground
Advantages: Stunning scenery, friendly welcome, so much to see!
Disadvantages: You have no choice but to drive - don't rely on public transport
...season. We had a fantastic time, enjoyed the brilliant scenery with warm and sunny weather in relative peace and quiet, and had the bonus of seeing the full palette of gorgeous autumn colours in the province's extensive woodlands as well.
In fact, there is a huge amount of stuff to see and do all over Nova Scotia, far more than we had time to fit in during our stay and it is now right up there at the top of the list of places to go back to, to try and fill in the gaps! It is the second smallest province in Canada but enjoys a pleasant cultural diversity, thanks largely to a history rich in upheaval and conflict. After the first Europeans arrived, the territory changed hands on several occasions and the various waves of immigration from the USA (I was surprised to discover this but immediately after independence, many loyalist settlers...

Not Terribly Cultured
Advantages: More high points than their debut
Disadvantages: But that's not saying much
...I may have discovered Orson by accident at first, but it was no accident that their second album came to my attention. Having been impressed by their debut single "No Tomorrow" and then being disappointed that the rest of the album didn't match up to it, I wasn't planning on getting "Culture Vultures". That was until I discovered that the first two singles from it were pretty good and figured that maybe the album would be worth a look as I knew it had at least twice as many decent tracks as the last one.
The first of these tracks is "Radio", which is an up-tempo, upbeat heavy pop track. The early verses are a little deceptive, being a little slower than the bouncy intro would have you believe, but it picks up later on. It's got quite a driving beat, especially over the chorus, which makes it perfect running music. It's not as good as...

Cultures
Advantages: Fun for all, relaxing to play
Disadvantages: A little too slow if your after a bit more action
...Cultures is a resource management game based around Vikings. You control a small group of Vikings and train them to do various jobs like being a huntsman, baker, farmer, etc and you build them places to live and work.
The game is cute and the Vikings do not go rampaging about the land, looting and pillaging. It's not that kind of game and they aren't those kind of Vikings.
You build your community. Male Vikings go to work and female Vikings cook them dinner and have babies. When two Vikings get married and have somewhere to live, you can tell them to have a baby. The baby arrives and grows up. Once the baby (boy) reaches adulthood, you can train him to do whatever job might be required. Baby girls grow into women, who then have more children (if you want). Care needs to be taken to ensure that there is enough food...

Oh canada.
Advantages: Great airline
Disadvantages: none
...If you are ever deciding to fly to Canada, always be sure to check out their own airline before hopping onto a British Airways flight.
Air Canada is simply one of the best airlines I have flown on.
Their staff are warm and friendly, their fleet is modern and comfortable and the whole company are a 1st class outfit.
They have a website for you to check out too:
www.aircanada.com/index.htm
When you log on, you will have to make a choice!
Canada, for those of you that dont know, (I should hope you all do!) is situated and joined onto USA along its Northern perimeter.
They speak 2 languages there, with a high proportion of French speaking residents.
There are actual French Orientated parts of the country with most roadsigns being dual nationality.
This extends to their website.
On logging on, you must make...

Culture of greed
Advantages: easy money
Disadvantages: no trust
...Britain has gone mad concerning the compensation culture.
It just seems that everyone is willing, without any remorse or guilt, to sue anyone for the slightest of reasons.
In some cases family members are making claims against each other for the simple reason of making easy money.
There are even criminal organisation who are deliberately causing accidents involving motor vehicles, such as removing brake lights and then suddenly stopping in front of another car, then claiming for whiplash and other injuries, then making a claim against the innocent motorist that they have just 'conned'.
There are many similar 'stunts that these criminals use and as it is hard to prove against there claim then the insurance companies simply pay out, thus forcing the companies to raise there premiums for everyone else.
Britain has become a nation...

Blame (Air) Canada
Advantages: decent service, good flight itinerary
Disadvantages: pervading sense of incompetence, baggage disasters
...I've just got back from an exhausting but cracking holiday to the States, and strange as it may seem to write an op straight away, I find myself in that jet-lagged, zombified state in which little else is possible, and I want to write about my treatment at the hands of Air Canada before I forget the fine, scintillating details...
We chose Air Canada for the following reasons:
- A stop-over was needed to secure the deal we wanted, and Toronto is a good place to break the flying monotony.
- Aside from some random Canadian marines, Canada has no direct military presence or involvement in Iraq which minimises the threat of danger and/or disruption and cancellation caused by terrorist threat.
- Their on-board service is (justifiably) lauded, and they are a member of the Star Alliance along with United (my cousin and travelling...

Thomas Cook Tour. Eastern Canada
Advantages: Guided tour, Spendid views, Great company.
Disadvantages: Occasional extra costs
...The Saint Lawrentian of Eastern Canada is an excellent way of discovering this part of Canada as my wife and I found out during Sept/Oct 2000. On this tour were 44 people from different walks of life, and we got on well with all of them. This made a great atmosphere, especially in the hotels. All the hotels are hand-picked by Thomas Cook and are of high quality. (minimum 4*).
Thomas Cook have a holiday manager with you from your arrival at Heathrow airport, right through your tour until you arrive back at Heathrow. You are treated to Executive lounge facilities at the airport until your flight is called. Included are free drinks and nibbles.
The tour of Canada commences in Montreal. After overnight stay there is a morning city tour of Montreal which includes the Notre Dame Basilica ,The Olympic Park (of 1976 games). The rest...

Asbo-disco for an accelerated culture
Advantages: Fresh new music
Disadvantages: Initially appears to be very samey
...Leeds five-piece Hadouken! have just released their debut album, Music For An Accelerated Culture.
The new-rave quintet, who are named after a fireball throwing attack in the popular video game series Street Fighter, have appeared on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show with their internet phenomenon double a-side "That Boy That Girl/Tuning In", and in January this year two of the band members Djed and presented the show themselves.
Their music, which is said to fall under the Asbo-disco genre, is heavily influenced by dance artists The Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers, and tackles issues such as debt, drinking, and youth culture.
The album features the popular MySpace track "Get Smashed Gate Crash", and their singles "That Boy That Girl", "Liquid Lives", and "Declaration Of War".
The exterior artwork is very much reminiscent of J...

* CANADA - Part 3: CALGARY *
Advantages: Very nice and clean city
Disadvantages: -
...So, finally... the third part of my CANADA row...
C A L G A R Y...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
... lies in the west of Canada, more exactly said in Alberta, only few kilometers far away from the Rocky Mountains. In 1988 the Olympic Winter Games took place in Calgary; it's also famous for the oil and natural gas finds in the year 1914, or by the Calgary Stampede, the largest Rodeo of the world. Circa 97o.ooo inhabitants live in Calgary!
HOW TO COME THERE?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the winter there are few nonstop connections from Europe to Calgary. From Frankfurt there is a daily connection with Air Canada to Calgary (codesharing with Lufthansa), Air Transat also offers flights from Frankfurt and London-Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow. Otherwise one can fly to Toronto (or to an American hub) and from there with Air Canada to Calgary...

CONCLUSION
Noodle Express was a good example of excellent, authentic Japanese food in Vancouver, of which we saw several. The sizeable portions filled both of us up, and the friendly service kept us happy. The bill of $25 seemed fair enough to me. It looked like the sort of place that would be bustling at its peak time and it would be a great place to be then. In summary then, one to add to the recommended list.
