Canal du Midi
Advantages: architectural wonder
Disadvantages: cost many human lives to build
...on a bridge floating over a river!
¤ø,¸¸,◊,¸¸ ,ø¤
This beautiful bridge, built of many large arches, above which are smaller arches, where there is a pedestrian passage inside the bridge, under the water level of the canal. I did feel sudden panic when I saw leaking cracks as I strolled through the passage!
Further on, a small port where you can rent boats, or just admire some of the old restored barges which are lived in, with garden terraces and cars on their decks!

Cruisin' - THE GRAND CANAL
Advantages: An amazing sight
Disadvantages: Venice is SO expensive
...When visiting Venice, it's hard, if not impossible, to not come into contact with the Canalasso. Well when I say come into contact, most people don't actually do that - they'd end up a trifle wet if they did. More accurately, it's nigh impossible to not see, or travel upon the said waterway.
The Grand Canal (to give it it's English name), is one of the first things most visitors see when they arrive in the city, leading as it does, from the lagoon at Santa Lucia Railway station and the huge, and hugely expensive, car parks.
It snakes through the city in a giant back-to-front S shape from here to the St Mark Basin at the opposite end of town. At 3800m long and varying widths of between 30-90m, it's said to be one of the few man-made structure visible from space...although I'm not sure it was so much man-made as 'enhanced', and I...

Root Canal? Where abouts is that then?
Advantages: gets rid of pain and infection
Disadvantages: uncomfortable at times
...When I found out that I needed to have a root canal treatment I nearly had a heart attack. I hate anything to do with needles and having had no surgery whatsoever, I am absolutely petrified of the thought of undergoing any procedure whether it's major or minor. However the most important reason for not liking the whole root canal idea was that I absolutely hate the dentist!
I know for a fact that I'm not alone when I say that I hate the dentist as most people admit to having an extreme phobia of getting in that chair. Maybe it's the thought of not being in control or maybe it's the lovely array of the dentist's torture equipment that practically stares you right in the face once you're in there that does it? Whatever it is, it is enough to put people off going until it is absolutely necessary, until the pain is just too unbearable...

Take a canal tour and get an overview of Amsterdam
Advantages: You get a leisurely cruise through the canals, and the guides are excellent at telling you the history of Amsterdam and pointing out interesting places and architecture
Disadvantages: bit blowy outside in cooler weather if youre on one of the open ones
...also told that just because the front is old doe not mean the rest of the house is. When the foundations fail, the houses are rebuilt, but the front has to remain! Who'd have thought it? We enjoyed our daytime trip immensely, but for sheer beauty ...
We also took a candlelit cruise - ah, romance in this city of extremes. Champagne and hor dóevres, and a couple of candle bowls flickering at each table. We sailed the same maze of canals, but the buildings were aglow from within, the bridges ablaze with hundreds of coloured lights. It was magical. the same city as we'd passed through in the day, but looking magical in the dark night.
I'd advise couples to take both cruises, they are so different and give you a chance to see a different side of the city. Families with school age children would enjoy the daytime trip, as there was...

Grand Canal Hotel Dublin
Advantages: Good restraunt, good location
Disadvantages: bathroom fan has no 'off' switch
...First the advice. If you are going to use this hotel (a 3* hotel) the best way to get to it is using the air-coach which goes from Dublin airport every 20 min or so. The stop you want is the 'school house hotel' The grand canal hotel is then just a short walk away. The air coach is far cheaper than taking a taxi (could be as much as ?30 cheaper) and it's quicker.
One of the hotels big advantages (could be seen as a disadvantage by some). It is about a 15 - 20 min walk from the main shoping area of the city, so this means it is fairly quiet at night. However this also means that it is quite a distance from the big tourist attractins such as the Guinnes store house and the Jameson distillery.
The rooms are large, well decorated, double glazed, clean, are all on suite and as you would expect are serviced daily. The only problem...

Eden - cause of Suez?
Advantages: See review
Disadvantages: See review
...EDEN - the cause of Suez?
Overview
The Suez Crisis, also referred to as the 'Tripartite Invasion', was an attack on Egypt by Britain, France, and Israel in late October 1956. It followed Egypt's - specifically their new Presidednt, General Nasser's - decision to nationalise the Suez Canal. It marks a huge turning-point in British foreign and colonial policy.
The Suez Canal is a canal between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. It was designed by British and French architects and built by Egyptian workers. It opened in 1869. Essential as a Western trade route, Egypt's nationalisation of it (it had previously been under French and British control) sparked huge chaos.
In this review, I'm going to investigate the reasons why Britain was left with little alternative other than to co-conspire with France and Israel...

mediauk.com
Advantages: A decent media website...
Disadvantages: ...but no better than that
...Anyone looking for a job in the media, or even an insight into the big wide world of it, could do much worse than look here to begin with - mediauk.com.
Operating since 1994, it lists current available jobs in radio, tv and print media, recent news articles on all these forms of media and a discussion board. Now being a graduate in a degree of this field of work, the jobs board has been an interest to me for quite a while...but don't expect to find work instantly. Anything but. Copious numbers of people view these adverts (you can see how many exactly in the job listings), but don't let that deter you of course - if you're good and experienced enough then you'll come across the job for you eventually.
The jobs listed usually just contain a small job description and contact details for where to send your cover letter and CV, but...

dictionary.com
Advantages: Good free service
Disadvantages: Too many adverts & pop-ups
...Dictionary.com?! Dictionary.com?! Seriously?! Why, yes, something that seems so simply and basic has it's place on the World Wide Web (yes, I'm aware of the irony!), but fear not...it's not as basic as it seems!
Rather than just typing in a word to discover its definition, dictionary.com does provide a far greater service. Since it's launch way back in 1995 (were websites even around then?!), it's one of the world's most popular services, as naturally many people will just type in 'dictionary.com' into their browser if they need to find the definition of a word...even if they don't know the website exists, it makes sense to have a crack at it!
The website does provide a thesaurus option, translator and encyclopaedia...for anyone even contemplating steering away from Wikipedia, God forbid! But there are other quirks to the website...

gumtree.com
Advantages: Very detailed
Disadvantages: Open to fraud
...Many will remember a time when the classified section of a local newspaper was all there was if you wanted to look for second-hand goods, or look for a place to live without going to an estate agent?but not anymore. Goodbye the classified section; hello Gumtree.com
To quote the frontpage of the website, Gumtree advertises ?Homes, jobs, cars, sofas, vintage records? anything, really??and they?re not wrong! It lists it?s good in cities across the country. And not just the capital cities of the UK, but anywhere from Brighton to Nottingham, from Oxford to Aberdeen. This handy tool can help you look for exactly what you?re after without having to sift through adverts from cities hundreds of miles from you.
Now, to indicate the scale of the website, in the London section, the ?Flats and Houses? adverts totals 124,174!! That seems a bit...

TVCatchup.com
Advantages: Great website to watch TV on, for free
Disadvantages: None
...The television - the bane of most people's lives, spent whiling away the hours whilst sat in front of it when you could be doing things more productive. Then the Internet came along as a pretender to the thrown...but never would the picture box be knocked off it's perch, so the internet did the next best thing - broadcast the television on the internet. This is where TVCatchup comes in.
Now, first off it's important to note that this website differs from, say, the BBC iPlayer because it is not a 'catch-up' service, or is it similar to YouTube by having readily available any old rubbish. No, this is quite literally television on the computer.
The web address is simple - www.tvcatchup.com - and the idea is just as so. It streams the channels you can enjoy on a standard Freeview box via your computer screen, completely free...
