Iberostar Cozumel
Advantages: This hotel offers a very good diving school.
Disadvantages: The food in this hotel was good, but they had a problem keeping the food warm.
...to Hurricane Katrina.
The second day of being there I noticed that they where offering free scuba lessions in the swimming pool and I thought I would give it a go. I found it that good and decided to sign up for a discover scuba course. The instructors on this course where very friendly and helpful. There was one point that I never nearly went on the dive due to nerves, but the instructor reasured me. I'm glad he did because the dive was probably one of the best experiences of my life. They even filmed it on DVD. Also to mention that the island of Cozumel is close to the second largest barrier reef in the world and was very easy to reach by boat.
The only downside to the hotel was, that they had a problem keeping the food warm and the eating areas are open. Which caused a problem with the flies. I think they where trying to close...

Hotel Pepita, Cozumel - cheap and clean
Advantages: Cheap, clean, friendly service
Disadvantages: Not very upmarket, depends what you're looking for!
...Hotel Pepita is a budget hotel found on the Mexican island of Cozumel. It was recommended as one of the better budget options in the Lonely Planet guide, so when I arrived I wandered along and enquired about a room (I wasn't very organised but I was early)! I was lucky and there was to be a room later on - I left my bag in their luggage store and returned later after a couple of dives. At busy times it's probably better to book in advance - I don't think they have more than a dozen rooms, which is part of the charm of the place.
From the outside the hotel is pretty - it's directly on the street, but looks very green and inviting due to lots of flowers and some nice paintwork. The main door opens directly to a small (and fairly basic) reception area, which then leads to the internal courtyard.
The room was nice though nothing...

Can I go there - Yes I Cancun
Advantages: Nice weather, beautiful scenery, spectacular wildlife
Disadvantages: Concrete jungle in parts of downtown
...*Update* pictures added - see below.
Cancun is to Mexico as Benidorm is to Spain. Despite this, we went and had a great time. Here’s the op:
The place we stayed was an all-inclusive resort, the Moon Palace, so some of this opinion will relate to the specific resort. See http://www.moon-palace.com/ for more information on the resort.
The flight and arrival:
Very long – the longest I’ve ever been on. It took 11 hours from London Gatwick to Cancun. We flew with My Travel, although our holiday was booked with JML.
Tip for the unwary: be prepared to have your suitcases searched at Cancun airport when you arrive, and again when you leave. They don't have a scanner for baggage, other than a handheld one for carry-on luggage, so they search it all by hand instead. Including your dirty laundry on the way...

Home Sweet Cancun
Advantages: Friendly community, great food, great diving sites, peaceful
Disadvantages: Damaged due to natural disasters, Hotel Zone VERY commercial
...You either - Love it or hate it. Just like marmite!
Cancun is well known for the place to be for spring break students for partying, clubbing..just letting oneself go.
But there is so much more to Cancun than meets the eye.
Obviously, when tourists think about taking a holiday, the first thing many do, is search high and low for the best hotel/resort. And yes, Cancun does offer a wide range of brilliant hotels and services in The Hotel Zone, which I'm sure is agreeable for many. However, The Hotel Zone, is like being in the Western World. In fact, it is just like the States.
But if you are looking for real adventure, tradition, culture, locals and much much more, then please read on.
I am a person who enjoys travelling and exploring new cultures and traditions. I like to meet new people and communicate with them...

Cancun - Don't waste your money
Advantages: The diving was excellent
Disadvantages: It's a manmade dump with overpriced restaurants and shops
...My husband had been to Tijuana on a short trip several years before and really fancied going to Cancun. I was in two minds about it as I suspected there would be nothing Mexican about it. Nevertheless, I was persuaded by the fact that they were doing package holidays with direct flights from Glasgow where we live.
Prior to leaving I had done some research on the internet but had found it quite hard to get any decent information on Cancun itself. There is plenty about the historical sites.
When we arrived in Cancun I was already annoyed by the time we had left the airport and had been told by our tourist guide that we would have to shell out around $45 each in airport taxes on leaving.
We chose a self catering holiday, which was a major mistake. The cost of food at the supermarkets was dearer than in the UK and we ended up...

Pity about Wilma, I loved Cancun
Advantages: Beautiful resort, loads to do, plenty of wildlife, worth every penny
Disadvantages: long flight, package bit on the expensive side, weather?!?
...I went to Cancun in the middle of October last year for a two-week break with Thompson.
The flight took us from Manchester to Cancun and was approx 9 hours. The Mexicans like their paperwork and therefore it took us around an hour or more to get out of the airport and begin the ten-minute journey to the "hotel zone" where our hotel the Royal Solaris awaited us.
The hotel is all-inclusive and contained absolutely everything should you wish to stay in the complex for the entirety of the holiday. The staff were talkative, friendly and very helpful, the food was to die for.
Our hotel was situated very close to the airport and just in the middle of the large "spit" of land, which separates the lovely light blue ocean the lagoon.
We were a 20-minute bus trip away from "Downtown Cancun" and buses were very frequent (as often as...

CANCUN CANCUN CANCUN
Advantages: Hotel Next To Beach, Sea Sunshine & Babes
Disadvantages: Expnsive, Commercialised.
...Cancun, beautiful beaches, hotels and weather. Me and my partner travelled in March, the weather was absolutely beautiful, hitting high 30C every day. We paid £1400 for the all-inclusive resort of Tucancun for 7 nights. The flight was long, approx 12 hours, but it was worth it. Soon as we stepped off the flight the heat struck us, felt like heaven.
Our hotel was on the main strip right next to the beach, the crystal clear waters and white sands, simply amazing.
The hotel was a 3* plus, rooms were big, clean, en-suite but simple. The food was excellent and service was very good also, however some staff did find it difficult to understand english.
Cancun itself has become very commercialised, you can find all the main resturants such as TGI's and fast food places. It is also expensive, finding bargains are not easy.
Transport around...

Cancun The long haul is definitely worth it
Advantages: 5* beach - when I went we even saw huge turtles coming out of the ocean in the night-time - amazing.
Disadvantages: Can be expensive - we paid £1200 for 2 people for 2 weeks on a late deal 4/5 star all inclusive hotel.
...there is something for all tastes.
Along with all the usual water sports you would expect, take the opportunity to go scuba diving/ snorkelling as Cancun and it's neighbouring island Cozumel has some of the best Coral reefs in the world.
There are also lots of excursions available so I would highly recommend attending the meeting with the reps to find out what is on offer. We did a jungle tour - racing through the depths of the lagoon on two-man speedboats is a thrilling experience not to be missed especially for all those budding Bonds and Bond girls out there. There are also many nature parks which are definitely worth a visit and the opportunity to swim with dolphins, which although expensive (apx £100) is a truly unforgettable, life enhancing experience. Cancun really does have it all.
Well, if you are still reading this then...

cancun makes a great base
Advantages: cheap, hot, exciting, easy to get around, quite good shopping
Disadvantages: cancun is a disaster area if you goto the wrong bit!!
...cancun is extremely touristy and expensive ,however there are 2 parts ;the americanised expensive hotel zone with the posh hotels at stupid prices ,and the more traditional mexican old town which many tourists dont bother going to.the latter is full of great restaurants most of which serve mexican food only and bbqs.this part of town is for the local mexican employees who live in cancun and work in the expensive hotel zone ,which although only a few minutes drive away, is like a different world.
this way you can also get cheap accommodation in a 3 star hotel with pool for about 25 pounds a night, which is cheap comparable to the hotel zone.another advantage is that, as charter flights from the uk to cancun are so cheap now, this makes a very convenient base from which to explore the yucatan penisular, which has a lot to offer.if you stay...

Try Isla Mujeres, Cancun's sweet little sister
Advantages: True Tropical Island heaven in the caribbean sea
Disadvantages: It won't be unspoilt forever, go soon!
...I like Cancun but I love Isla Mujeres.
Isla is a little slip of an island, only five miles long and 4 miles off the coast of loud brash Cancun. It is quaint, beautiful, relatively unspoilt and peaceful beyond belief.
Our first visit to Isla was two years ago when we travelled there as a day trip from Cancun which is how most people discover it. This year we went back for more and stayed on the island at the Avalon Reef Club, an all inclusive at the north end of the island. Next time we will rent a villa at the south end for pure get away from it all tropical dream destination.
The island has two distinct coasts, the Cancun side is a series of wide shallow coral sandy beaches with safe swimming and stunning sunset views. The west or caribbean side has rocky private coves, wilder water and good shelling.
The islanders are...
