Here’s the op: The place we stayed was an all-inclusive resort, the Moon Palace, so some of this opinion will relate to the specific resort. See http://www.moon-palace.com/ for more information on the resort. The flight and arrival: Very long – the longest I’ve ever been on. It took 11 hours from London Gatwick to Cancun. We flew with My Travel, although our holiday was booked with JML. Tip for the unwary: be prepared to have your suitcases searched at Cancun airport when you arrive, and again when you leave. They don't have a scanner for baggage, other than a handheld one for carry-on luggage, so they search it all by hand instead. Including your dirty laundry on the way...

Barcelo Costa Mexico

...Barcelo Costa Mexico, Cancun I recently visited Mexico on June 2008 and I stayed in the Barceló Costa hotel. Barceló Costa is situated on the hotel zone in Cancun. The hotel zone is built along the beach so each hotel has got their own section along the beach with a beach bar and sun loungers. The hotel is near Cancun town which has bars, nightclubs, restaurants and shopping markets and a 5 minute bus trip which costs around 30pence GBP to get to. The hotel staff are very helpful and pleasant for example if you are lying on the beach there is one or two staff serving your drinks so there is no need to get off your seat. The staff in the restaurants is also helpful and can't do enough for you. The rooms are very spacious and decorated very modern. There is a king-size bed in the double room with a large television. Pity about Wilma, I loved Cancun

Advantages: Beautiful resort, loads to do, plenty of wildlife, worth every penny
Disadvantages: long flight, package bit on the expensive side, weather?!?

...'re into your history then Chichen Itzá was highly recommended to us where we could see the ancient ruins of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula built by the Mayan Civilization. The hurricane also prevented me from going to see Bull-Fighting in the arena in Cancun too. There are plenty of places to eat, especially if you're into Seafood and Lobster (lots of Lobster bars) but they also cater for all tastes. I spent one of the best nights of my life in Cancun at the Coco Bongo nightclub - they know how to party in style, not just with music and drink but also with live dancers on stage and from the ceiling, it was a show and a night to remember. Other great memories, which stand out a mile, were picking up newly hatched sea turtles (about the size of the palm of a hand) and releasing them into the sea. Cancun - Don't waste your money

Advantages: The diving was excellent
Disadvantages: It's a manmade dump with overpriced restaurants and shops

Nevertheless, I was persuaded by the fact that they were doing package holidays with direct flights from Glasgow where we live. Advantages: Friendly community, great food, great diving sites, peaceful
Disadvantages: Damaged due to natural disasters, Hotel Zone VERY commercial

Disadvantages: cancun is a disaster area if you goto the wrong bit!!

...the jungle and lakes and the surrounding ruins aswell.the last place thats worth viviting if you dont have more than about two or three weeks,is the ruins of tulum on the caribbean coast,but beware the coastal strip from cancun down to tulum is getting more nad more developed and the prices are getting quite expensive compared to the rest of mexico....

Try Isla Mujeres, Cancun's sweet little sister

Advantages: True Tropical Island heaven in the caribbean sea
Disadvantages: It won't be unspoilt forever, go soon!

...I like Cancun but I love Isla Mujeres. Isla is a little slip of an island, only five miles long and 4 miles off the coast of loud brash Cancun. It is quaint, beautiful, relatively unspoilt and peaceful beyond belief. Our first visit to Isla was two years ago when we travelled there as a day trip from Cancun which is how most people discover it. This year we went back for more and stayed on the island at the Avalon Reef Club, an all inclusive at the north end of the island. Next time we will rent a villa at the south end for pure get away from it all tropical dream destination. The island has two distinct coasts, the Cancun side is a series of wide shallow coral sandy beaches with safe swimming and stunning sunset views. Cancun The long haul is definitely worth it

Advantages: 5* beach - when I went we even saw huge turtles coming out of the ocean in the night-time - amazing.
Disadvantages: Can be expensive - we paid £1200 for 2 people for 2 weeks on a late deal 4/5 star all inclusive hotel.

...Cancun is most famous for being the place where Pamela Anderson and Tommy - Lee Jones got married. Not really a great advert for it when you consider the problems their marriage went through later on down the line!!! However there is a lot more to Cancun than the sum of its parts - as I found out in July of last year. The flight is 8 hours there and 9 on the way back (something to do with the winds..) but don't let that put you off because as soon as you land and catch a glimpse of that turquoise blue ocean the whole plane ordeal will be forgotten. The peak season for going to Cancun is early in the year ( march - July ) as this is when the weather is at it's most sunny and rainfall minimal. I went in the middle of July and it was just coming out of season, but although they threatened rain there was only ever a quick shower...

...Cancun, beautiful beaches, hotels and weather. Me and my partner travelled in March, the weather was absolutely beautiful, hitting high 30C every day. We paid £1400 for the all-inclusive resort of Tucancun for 7 nights. The flight was long, approx 12 hours, but it was worth it. Soon as we stepped off the flight the heat struck us, felt like heaven. Our hotel was on the main strip right next to the beach, the crystal clear waters and white sands, simply amazing. The hotel was a 3* plus, rooms were big, clean, en-suite but simple. The food was excellent and service was very good also, however some staff did find it difficult to understand english. Cancun itself has become very commercialised, you can find all the main resturants such as TGI's and fast food places. It is also expensive, finding bargains are not easy. Transport around...
