...Branston Baked Beans...................
I am very partial to baked beans on toast (covered in cheese) or indeed I have been known to eat them cold straight from the can either way I have always bought Heinz as they are literally the ultimate baked bean. However as Branston Baked Beans have been on special offer in Tesco's recently (buy 4 for £1) I snapped them up and was pleasantly surprised.
The Branston Baked Bean tin design is a lot different from that of the Heinz tin. Of course it still has a picture of some beans on the front but instead of the Heinz green label Branston's is silver and looks just as good as its rival.
The beans inside the tin look pretty much the same as Heinz with the thick red/orange sauce and the tin full to the top with beans and juice. The smell again is practically the same only Branston...

Bargain Beans
Advantages: cheap, taste and smell good
Disadvantages: Well we all know what too many beans means!
...Always on the lookout for a bargain and a way to save a few pennies I was pleased when I came across a new brand of beans in my local Tesco. Hubby just does not like the value beans so I was buying Tesco?s own brand but as these can in at over 10p a can cheaper I decided to give them a go.
~~OAK LANE~~
Oak Lane are a new brand of foods which Tesco have taken on and advertise as their ?discount brand?. it is available on a lot of products in store and I have personally found every one which I have tried to be of good quality. The price of this brand always seems to match the Tesco Value price.
~~THE TIN~~
The beans come in the standard metal tin which unfortunately does not have a ring pull on top but this is no problem if you have a can opener. The label is wrapped around the tin and is a blue colour and has the Oak Lane...

BEANS, BEANS, FULL OF BEANS!
Advantages: Cheap and good quality
Disadvantages: No ring pull can lid, sauce runny
...and potassium.
Baked beans were first available in the United Kingdom as far back as the 1920's. The original concept of baked beans comes from America where haricot beans were cooked with molasses and salt. The humble tinned bean has grown into a staple food, as many as 1.1 billion cans of baked beans are consumed by Britons each year. The market leader is of course that well known company beginning with an 'H', but in my opinion, these economy beans give them a run for their money!
Packaging, pricing, taste and texture
The Sainsbury's Economy range is vast and many different products are now appearing under the Economy label. I should point put that Ciao's photograph is a little out of date, the product now comes with a white label with red writing, not blue, other than this the style of packaging is unchanged.
The can is completely...

BEAN!
Advantages: A few good scenes
Disadvantages: Where's the holiday?
...in the park however, and we see Bean has to get the Eurostar first on one of his many forced stops. I was very surprised that the film ended up being all about him trying to get to his holiday destination, rather than being on holiday and just making a mess. To be honest, I can think of many more funny situations he could have had if we had seen the character on a foreign beach, although obviously the writers saw much more potential in a story of struggle for Mr Bean getting to holiday. I suppose these half-laugh situations make you feel for him even more as all he wants to do is get to his hotel and relax, but I think that's more on the basis of you just want to see what sort of chaos he could cause on holiday. In terms of realism, you can't really fault this movie except for the fact that a very small town has given away a holiday to...

NOT A HAS BEAN.
Advantages: SATISFYING TO GROW YOURSELF.
Disadvantages: fOUR MONTHS OF LOVE AND CARE, WHEN YOU CAN JUST BUY THEM IN A SUPERMARKET!
..., to approximately 2 inches in height. At this stage, they are ready to plant in the ground.
A trench needs to be dug, approximately six inches deep. If you are having more than one row of broad beans, the trenches would need to be approximately nineteen inches apart; due to the massive root structure of the beans. Once dug, just gently take the broad beans shoots, out of their pots and place them along the rows, about ten inches apart. Then, re-fill the trenches: leaving the broad bean shoot, above the soil.
All that needs to be done now: is water them every other evening (it's thought, that if you water in the daytime, when the sun is out; you are condemning the plant, to death by burns), not every day as over watering can cause the roots to rot. Of course, in Britain, nature is kind to us; saving us from this chore often, due to...

Spilling some inconsistent beans?.
Advantages: An easy read, relatively interesting
Disadvantages: Inconsistencies, and possible lies
......................................................................................
Intro
Having decided to force myself back into reading while on the train (rather than staring aimlessly at sheep), I came across ?Spilling the Beans? by Clarissa Dickson Wright on the charity book list at work (books for 25p), and I do like autobiographies. I bought the book knowing nothing except that Clarissa was one of the ?Two Fat Ladies? (from the cookery programme in the late 1990s) - the one who hadn?t died (hence the book!), and that she was from quite a privileged background, and an alcoholic.
The Book
Published in hardback in 2007, and paperback in 2008, my copy is 316 pages long including the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and excluding a fairly extensive but selective index (i.e. I couldn?t find the thing I wanted to...

Beans & Sausages...
Advantages: Good taste, nice sausages, very cheap, recyclable can
Disadvantages: No ring pull, beans aren't Heinz (but then they don't cost Heinz money).
...I recently purchased these when looking for some bargain lunch items from my local Tesco store.
The can is aluminium and has a paper label with the familiar Tesco value logo as well as the heating instruction & nutritional information. There is no ring pull on the can but it's very easy to open with a can opener and this helps to keep the product nice and cheap so I don't mind at all.
Once the can is opened I can see beans in tomato sauce with a few mini sausages poking out and it looks quite well proportioned as I throw the contents in to a saucepan and put them on the hob for a few minutes. I warm them through for about 5 minutes (without boiling them) whilst I am waiting for my toast to cook in the toaster.
Once my toast is ready and buttered I spread the beans & sausages over the toast along with all of the tomato sauce...

Technicolour Dream Beans
Advantages: lots of realistic flavours
Disadvantages: expensive, hard to get hold of
...a Tabasco sauce flavour one).
Alas getting a hold of these precious delights can prove difficult. So my mother operates a when you see ?em buy ?em policy which is how my sister and I ended up receiving a little packet of jelly beans in our Christmas stocking. The beans are available in a wide variety of ways: tubes, boxes, packets, pic ?n? mix selections, dispensers and so on. I got a 100gram packet of Jelly Belly jelly beans with a mix of 20 flavours.
The packaging is surprisingly subdued for something that is:
a) American
b) Aimed at children and
c) Full of sugar.
So you know that is must be a quality product. And it is.
As my little packet only had 20 flavours that is all I can review at the moment. But I will update when I manage to try them all.

To bean or not to bean
Advantages: Good value, tasty, nutritious, versatile.
Disadvantages: You need to like baked beans.
...consistently good.
Each tin has 420g's of BBB coming in at 366 calories. I think this is lower than Heinz beans but do not quote me.
The sauce is a rich, thick tomato sauce which is a little darker than others. There is an ample amount of sauce but not too much. Sometimes you find that the lower priced baked beans are swimming in a watery tomato sauce but not these beans.
The baked beans have a nice texture, in that they are fairly soft, even if like me you enjoy eating them cold, and unheated through, occasionally. Sometimes cheap baked beans are a little hard and tasteless but not BBB. With these you can actually tell that they are a bean and they taste full of fibre.
The salt content is a little higher than recommended but I think that you can buy a lower salt variety. Of course these will no doubt be a little pricier.
Overall...

Posh Jelly Beans
Advantages: Lovely flavours
Disadvantages: Mint Sorbet
...Gourmet beans by the Jelly Bean Factory are a cut above the average jelly bean, however they are ridiculously expensive, the Jelly Bean Can which I have costs £6.00 in Debenhams, and only contains 400g.
There is a reason why they are so expensive though, they have much better flavours than your average jelly bean, and they have a greater variety of flavours, 36 in all, ranging from lemon and lime and south seas kiwi to pina colada and cafe latte.
The flavours are printed on the back of the packaging along with pictures of the different colours, so you can eat them in two ways. Firstly you can pick out the flavours you really like by identifying the bean, or you can play guess the flavour by checking up afterwards. This is actually pretty easy as the flavours do taste like what they are supposed to taste like.
I first tried them by...
