Stratford Manor A Tranquil Retreat

Advantages: Clean, friendly, child friendly, pets allowed, lovely environment
Disadvantages: Can get very busy with slow service and not all staff are very friendly

...Earlier this year we decided that it was time for a much needed break and what better place to spend it than in Shakespeare Countryside, Stratford Upon Avon? Having lived in Coventry which is in the West Midlands I am familiar with Stratford Upon Avon and how beautiful it is. The scenery there is lush and it is definitely Shakespeare Countryside. As well as being a local tourist attraction Stratford Upon Avon is also a quite part of the Country. After purchasing overnight accommodation from Lastminute.com I was set for my journey. There were many short breaks to choose from, but I fancied Stratford Manor the most. Now all I needed to do was ask my parents if they would baby sit. They finally agreed after much persuasion and a few bribes. After all they love their Granddaughter even if she can be a bit of a handful at times. Setting...

Review of Stratford Manor Hotel, Stratford-upon-Avon

Stratford Victoria

Advantages: Good positioning, great staff, lovely place to stay.
Disadvantages: No food after 10pm

...As a special treat my husband took me to Stratford for the weekend to watch a play at the Courtyard Theatre, and we were lucky enough to stay at the Stratford Victoria Hotel. This is a four-star hotel with excellent facilities and very polite, friendly and efficient staff. Our double room was extremely comfortable and well stocked with hair-dryer, power points, wifi, flat-screen tv, kettle, fridge and air-conditioning (handy as we were there for the hottest weekend of the year!) The bed was exceptionally comfortable, the bathroom was very nicely decorated and the shower was wonderful - a nice hot power-shower. All areas of the hotel are nicely decorated, the gardens are lovely and the breakfast provided in the restaurant was varied, well-cooked and delicious. The only disappointment is that there was no availability of food...

Boom attack with the cannon

Advantages: fun
Disadvantages: nana might get attacked

...Come on lets attack the castle I have the playmobil dragon knights and their cannon. It's my grandsons really. This toy is suitable for those children aged 4 years and over my grandson 6 still enjoys playmobil and will do for quite a time. This big Bertha cannon and its knights costs about £10 .00p. http://www.kiddicare.com has it for £8.99p, John Lewis for £8.75p http://www.charliesdirect.co.uk/ is selling for £7.82p http://www.hamleys. Are selling for £10.00p. Included in this set is the cannon of course and a cannon ball also 2 Dragon nights resplendent in their amour and helmets. There is a pennant with the Dragon coat of arms which fits over the cannon. Be warned the cannon although not huge does really shoot it will knock down castle walls or a pile of bricks. The cannon ball will also fire into Nana accidentally...

Butterfly Heaven in Stratford

Advantages: A unique experience
Disadvantages: Slightly expensive

...Visitors to Stratford could be forgiven for thinking that the town should be renamed Shakespeare-upon-Avon. Old Will seems to pop up everywhere. So, how refreshing it is to spend time at this lovely butterfly farm, just a short walk from the town centre. I have visited twice and found it utterly fascinating. In fact, I've never been anywhere else like it. It really feels as if I've stepped into a different world. The butterfly farm is fairly compact but there is plenty to see. This is a place where butterflies fly freely around your head as you wander through the different areas. And let me make it clear I am not talking about the average cabbage white which might take up residence in your garden. These are huge tropical butterflies with amazing shimmery colours. This is a unique opportunity to see such a variety of exotic...

Cannon Hall, South Yorkshire

Advantages: Free, lots of history
Disadvantages: None for me

...I am often amazed just how many major attractions there are within my local area that I have yet to visit and until very recently Cannon Hall, near Barnsley in South Yorkshire was one such example of a place. Cannon Hall is a grand country mansion that is located on the edge of the picturesque village of Cawthorne. Cawthorne lies approximately seven kilometres to the east of Barnsley's town centre and is roughly halfway between junctions 37 and 38 of the M1 motorway. A bus that departs from the central interchange every 30 minutes serves Cawthorne if you are visiting by public transport, but it is then a good 10-15 minute walk from where the bus terminates to Cannon Hall itself. It is however a very pleasant walk that will take you past some of the most affluent houses in this part of Yorkshire, the sort of dwellings that even...

My Cannon can, and does

Advantages: self cleaning,convector oven
Disadvantages: none

...I've had my Cannon Oxford cooker, for about 4 years now, and accept for one minor mishap, which was my fault, 'I broke the door handle'. It's as good today as the first day I brought it, and in fact still looks just as new, 'Honest' By the way after breaking the door handle, I was able to replace it the following day from our local dealer, at very little expense. It's a very basic gas cooker, no fancy gadgets, split level, freestanding cookers, which fits in nicely with the standard kitchen worktop height. A glass top lid, with fancy white inlaid pattern, 4 ring burners adorn the cooker top, one large and one small, front and back, three basic heat settings, high, medium and simmer, There is a minute minder dial on the front of the cooker 1-60 mins, this where you will find all the cookers controls, including oven, and ignition...

Express By Holiday Inn London Stratford London

Advantages: Reasonable price, friendly staff, clean public areas and rooms
Disadvantages: Basic room, continental breakfast, on main road

...I stayed in this hotel for a long weekend in November 2008. The hotel itself is located on the High Street which is a busy main road running through Stratford. It is approximately 10-15 minutes walk from the train station. There is a lot of construction work taking place in the area, but I did not hear any noise at all. As you enter the hotel there is a tidy and modern reception area with a seating area, bar and dining area to the rear. The reception staff are extremely friendly. Access to the rooms is available via one of two lifts. You need to use your room keycard to make the lifts work. The rooms are smaller than those you get in normal Holiday Inn hotels, in keeping with the Express brand. However, the twin room I received was extremely clean and fresh. A small open wardrobe was provided along with tea and coffee facilities...

I'll Have Mine Bottled, Please.

Advantages: You can cook without mains gas.
Disadvantages: Variable quotes for fitting costs, which can be expensive.

...biggest baking tray, to test ovens for size, and got some very strange looks. We decided on a Cannon Stratford as it was the only one we saw in our price range that had a really large oven. We expected to be able to haggle as we were actually trying to buy two cookers, one for friends who left the choice to us. This didn't work and eventually we ordered from a firm in Newcastle (our first experience of shopping on the web) who supplied two cookers for £310.00. This was in 2002. The price included delivery and two fitting kits. The cooker had a twelve-month guarantee with it and a leaflet about Cannon's after sales service. There were no instructions for use or cleaning. The Stratford looked smart. Sparkling white with black glass windows in the oven and grill doors, and a neat striped glass top that lifts to become a splash back when...

Is this Stratford I see before me

Advantages: Beautiful scenery, lovely river, teddy bears, history
Disadvantages: Can be quite tiring

...Stratford upon Avon is in the Heart of England, south west of Birmingham and easily reached from the M6 motorway. Now what is it that makes Stratford upon Avon so famous? Wasn’t that where that chap lived who wrote all those plays and poems? What was his name, now? I know - Will Shakespeare! Seriously though William Shakespeare is obviously the most famous tourist attraction here in Stratford. There is more to the town, but I’ll get the Shakespeare stuff out of the way first shall I? His birthplace is a 16th century half timbered house where he was born in 1564. It was originally split into two parts, a workshop and a living area, and was also part of a terrace. The building was restored in 1857 to its appearance as recorded in a drawing dating from 1769. Since 1847 when it came under the stewardship...

D'YOU THINK I CAN(NON) COOK ANY BETTER, NOW?

Advantages: A gas hotplate which gives instantly controlable heat.
Disadvantages: So far I haven't encountered any disadvantages.

...and two simmering. I personally can't find much difference between them except the sizes. Two burners are 3" in diameter and two are 4" in diameter. There are two cast iron pan supports which cover all four burners. Cannon advise that pans with diameters between 4" and 9" should be used on the hotplate and that pans should be sited centrally over the burners. I have used a Paella pan with an 11" diameter on the hotplate several times and not encountered any problems. Each burner has a spark ignitor for lighting the gas. ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞ I've found that cleaning the cooker is fairly easy and straightforward. After allowing the cooker to cool, I find that hot soapy water and a cloth with a good dose of elbow grease works well on all the surfaces...
