...The Canon CanoScan is a great all-round flatbed scanner. It is a good size (25cm x 36cm x 4cm) to enable all regular scanning, whilst not taking up unnecessary desk space. It has a resolution of 4800dpi x 4800 dpi, which results in great quality scans, of both black and white or colour documents/images. Whilst I have been rather let down by other scanners, this one is really easy to use and gives fantastic results. It is easy to scan in regular sheets/photos, but the lid also allows you to scan notebooks etc. Although other scanners I have used have allowed you to do this, the results have not been so good; often having the lid slightly ajar results in bleached patches of the scanned document, due to light getting in. Advantages: Fast, film scanning, high resolution
Disadvantages: poor film scanning, no standby button

...than my old scanner. Previewing an A4 page takes just a few seconds. Scanning an A4 colour page at 300 dpi takes about 12 seconds, 600dpi 24 seconds. Scanning film takes a fair bit longer, I think it was over a minute at a high resolution. Quality = This scanner scans colours very faithfully; I have had no problems or complaints. Canon rate this scanner with 48 bit colour depth, which is useful for scanning film. The scanner has a very high resolution - It can scan documents up to 1600x3200 dpi, and film upto 3200x6400 dpi! Advantages: No Power Supply, Slimline, High Resolution

Both of them Canon scanners, both ultra-thin (barely 1 inch thick!) and capable of being stood on one edge, and both of them taking their power from the USB port. It took around ten seconds to scan an A4 sheet, which is pretty quick in my opinion. The quality is also good. The colours come out well and although it was not perfect, it's hard to expect a perfect scan of a watercolour painting, as the colours were not bold. After asking my teacher about it, and getting a mumbled response about concentrating on my work, i decided i would have to check out what it comes with online. Canoscan 650U - A real Winner

A Near Perfect Scanner

...We use the CanoScan Lide 25 (which I'll refer to as Lide 25 from now on) at work and a handy little scanning tool it is indeed. It's very slim and lightweight and sits nicely on my desk, ready to jump into action whenever I need to scan a document or photo. You can copy directly from the platen (glass screen) to your printer or print or even email and it's very easy to set up. AN ABUNDANCE OF FEATURES The Lide 25 uses a USB connection so you don't need a separate power supply which is very handy indeed - saving on energy is always a better option.
