CanoScan LiDE 100 - I Love My LiDE

Advantages: Fabulous quality for scanned documents, both colour and B&W
Disadvantages: Somewhat slow when scanning at highest resolutions

...I bought my CanoScan Lide100 for home use earlier this year (2009) after having used the CanoScan Lide 25 at work for 3 years or so. Having used it for several months now, I thought it was time I shared my views on how it fares as a flatbed scanner. Anyone who really knows me will know that I'm obsessed with taking photos and have 1000s of digital photos stored online and I really wanted to scan in my old photos pre-digital era and wanted a decent scanner mainly for this reason. Review of Canon CanoScan LiDE 100

CanoScan - great quality scans at the touch of a button

Advantages: Quick, easy to use, quiet, great quality scans
Disadvantages: Fairly expensive

...The Canon CanoScan is a great all-round flatbed scanner. It is a good size (25cm x 36cm x 4cm) to enable all regular scanning, whilst not taking up unnecessary desk space. It has a resolution of 4800dpi x 4800 dpi, which results in great quality scans, of both black and white or colour documents/images. Whilst I have been rather let down by other scanners, this one is really easy to use and gives fantastic results. It is easy to scan in regular sheets/photos, but the lid also allows you to scan notebooks etc. Although other scanners I have used have allowed you to do this, the results have not been so good; often having the lid slightly ajar results in bleached patches of the scanned document, due to light getting in. Canon CanoScan

Advantages: Fast, film scanning, high resolution
Disadvantages: poor film scanning, no standby button

...than my old scanner. Previewing an A4 page takes just a few seconds. Scanning an A4 colour page at 300 dpi takes about 12 seconds, 600dpi 24 seconds. Scanning film takes a fair bit longer, I think it was over a minute at a high resolution. Quality = This scanner scans colours very faithfully; I have had no problems or complaints. Canon rate this scanner with 48 bit colour depth, which is useful for scanning film. The scanner has a very high resolution - It can scan documents up to 1600x3200 dpi, and film upto 3200x6400 dpi! The CanoScan Can

Advantages: No Power Supply, Slimline, High Resolution
Disadvantages: Slow

...that didn't need a mains power supply. A trip to the local Currys revealed that I had basically two choices. Both of them Canon scanners, both ultra-thin (barely 1 inch thick!) and capable of being stood on one edge, and both of them taking their power from the USB port. CanoScan.....Can't

Advantages: Very sleek and stylish looking, slimline. Scans quite fast.
Disadvantages: Expensive for the specs. Lack of any special features. Limited Colour producing capabilities.

CanoSCAN LiDE 20 - Slim Perfection

...The Canon CanoScan 8800f The canon CanoScan 8800f is a near perfect scanner. It is used in our school and after using it for recent Art coursework i was very impressed. It took around ten seconds to scan an A4 sheet, which is pretty quick in my opinion. The quality is also good. The colours come out well and although it was not perfect, it's hard to expect a perfect scan of a watercolour painting, as the colours were not bold. After asking my teacher about it, and getting a mumbled response about concentrating on my work, i decided i would have to check out what it comes with online. I was surprised to see that our school's Adobe photoshop Elements 5, a great program, had come with the scanner. Also included is ArcSoft photo studio 5, a not so great piece of software. Canoscan 650U - A real Winner

Advantages: Speed, size, no power cable and quality
