Canon EOS 1DS 11.1 Megapixel Digital SLR

Physically the camera weighs around 1.5kg without a lens, being made out of magnesium alloy and steel, thats understandable, and like canons other EOS 1 series the camera is heavily waterproofed, speaking to a photographer once who once, accidently of course, dropped his 1Ds into a river, retrieved it immediatly he found his lens damaged, but the camera shrugged it off, no marks or water damage. But what really makes people excited about this camera is it's CMOS sensor, using less power than a CCD, battery life is excellent, around 600-700 images. Canon EOS 1D MKIII - I wanted one for 2 years

Advantages: Fast writing, low light/high ISO setting, huge screen, robust
Disadvantages: Auto focussing

...a bunch of firefighters doing breathing apparatus training in a basement in Southwark using the 3200 ISO setting and the Canon 70-200 mm F2.8L image stabilising lens. A lovely combination and the results are outstanding. The down side - I didn't need to wait for the four months to realise that the autofocussing on this camera takes some getting used to. On occasions where I cover sporting events, I have found that despite playing with a number of different focussing modes on the 1D, I get better focussing accuracy when using the 20D and 5D models, both used by our team of wedding and event photographers. Review of Canon EOS-1D Mark III

Canon 75-300mm USM III - A good all-round lens but not perfect

Advantages: Speed, Appearance, Build quality, Price
Disadvantages: Picture quality at long focal distances

...I have read several positive reviews about the Canon 75-300mm USM III lens but I don't share other people's enthusiasm because it is not nearly as sharp as I would expect from a Canon lens. Of course, compared to the Canon L Series lenses, this is an incredibly inexpensive item and, in its defence, I do find that my Canon EOS 50D, with it's jam-packed 15mp APS-C sensor, is very difficult to marry up with a lense to get the most out of it (unless you are prepared to spend thousands). At the close end of the focal range, the picture is crisp and sharp but unfortunately this tails off quite noticeably as the lens is extended (as does the auto-focus accuracy) and I have even taken to focusing the lens manually when it is at full extent, using the camera's magnified live-view to ensure crisp results. Canon Powershot SX200 IS

Advantages: Lots of zoom, lots of pixels, sturdy
Disadvantages: No internal memory, flash pops up whether you want it to or not

.... It's not as small as some compacts but if you manage to get hold of a Canon case then you can fit the camera, spare battery and a couple of cards inside it quite easily. It is 10cm wide, 6 1/2 cm high and 3cm deep (excluding zoom), and has a metal body which feels quite sturdy. It sort of curves outward on one side so you can get a decent grip and hold the camera steady. On the top of the camera body there is the on/off switch, dial with all the different modes (auto mode, easy mode, portrait, landscape, night snapshot, kids and pets, indoor, sunset, video, manual mode, aperture priority, shutter priority and program mode), and the shutter release button which also controls the zoom. Canon or a Brother ?

Advantages: Good print Quality
Disadvantages: Cartridge prices

...This review is for the Canon Pixma IP4700. Setup --------- This printer comes inside a box which is heavily packaged and first off all you get the power cable. The cable is wrapped with this tie back but the problem is that when you unwind the cable you notice how it wants to try and curl back up again so you do need to try and straighten it out as soon as you can. You receive the disc which has the drivers on which you need to install on the computer otherwise you have no way of printing items off without it. There is nothing else inside the box besides the cartridges which are easy to insert and use. The disc is good because it is so simple to install the items onto the computer and this takes about a minute to do. You do not get a connection to the computer though so you do need to purchase one yourself and many websites...

A slightly less explosive Canon.

Advantages: Typically good Canon images.
Disadvantages: Poor flash and feels a bit flimsy.

  A Canon that lacks firepower.

Advantages: Easy to use, well built and looks good (in silver at least)!
Disadvantages: Poor image quality in some lights and not great value for money.

...images and the function on here works quite well and will allow you to hand hold without blur at almost full zoom and at shutter speeds of about 1/80th of a second whereas without it you would have to shoot at speeds of about 1/125th of a second to avoid blur. The zoom on this camera is not all that big at only 3.7x optical it is one of the smaller zoom lenses today but still offers enough manoeuvrability to be classed as useful and it can be used at full zoom without reducing image quality which a lot of larger zoom cameras cannot cope with. As with most compact cameras there is a video function on the Canon 980 but unlike many other compact cameras it actually works quite well. I am a great believer that cameras are for still images and cam corders for video but this camera does a decent enough job of videoing to be useful...

Review of Canon Ixus 980 IS

So glad to be back to a Canon!

Advantages: Small, tough, simple and fast to use
Disadvantages: A little expensive

...the tough life that it will experience until I lose it somewhere. The lens is motorised and emerges from the camera when it is switched on. I think there has been a trend in small camera to avoid a protruding lens, it would certainly save on space. With the lens situated towards the centre of the camera and not the corner I'm pleased that I'm no longer taking photos of my finger holding the corner of the camera :-) Theres the standard tripod screw at the bottom of the case if you want to attach it to a tripod. The battery charger is seperate and the camera takes a NB-4L Canon battery if you have one to recycle from an old camera. The charger is small thankfully. Specs I said this wasn't a techie review and please mark me down if you're finding it useless as a result, I'm just trying to give an honest opinion on how I'm finding using...
