...This was my first Digital SLR(single lens reflex) the Canon 20D. I had previously owned a Nikon and with good recommendations from my friends I decided to switch to Canon. The camera is very well built with strong controls and buttons. Surprisingly it is not heavy which helps balance out the camera nicely. The menu functions are very easy to use with simple sections with the help of the dial wheel. The dial wheel is a my favourite feature on this camera. It allows you to move easily through the menu and importantly through your photographs. You can navigate through your captured photographs with the slight turn of the dial wheel and it was this featured that interested me towards this camera. Canon 20D Review

Advantages: Image Quality, Feel and Ergonomics
Disadvantages: Size and weight (but not bad for a D-SLR)

...The Canon 20D is the fourth DSLR of the xxD line by Canon, which now contains 6 cameras. In my opinion the 20D is one of the best, for a number of reasons. The 8mp sensor allows prints to be made at A3 size or more, while reducing noise in the images. It also features a Magnesium Alloy body which feels very solid, and adds to the impression that this camera is more expensive than it actually is - it can be found very cheaply now from eBay or professional camera dealers. The 5 frames per second is more than enough for shooting action sequences, from children's school sports days to F1 and airshows. The images the 20D produces are of very high quality, with comparitavely low noise at high ISO presenting perfectly useable shots up to ISO 800. Canon EOS 450D - Superb!

Advantages: Extremely easy to use, fantastic picture quality, long battery life.

Advantages: TOO MANY TO MENTION

The software supplied with the camera provides brilliant and simple guidance and manipulation of photographs can be made easily, if required. But of course, that value, at current prices, is second to none. An added advantage is that all of my old Canon lenses can also be used. Review of Canon EOS D30

A slightly less explosive Canon.

Advantages: Typically good Canon images.
Disadvantages: Poor flash and feels a bit flimsy.

...Canon along with Nikon have for years been known as the kings of camera`s but with things changing rapidly in the DSLR market Canon had to think fast. All of Canons recent releases have been at the expensive end of the market and they have been rapidly losing ground to the likes of Nikon and the new kids on the block (Sony). The release of the Canon EOS 1000D in June this year (2008)was an attempt to get back in the entry level market and whilst I think it should have the desired effect I am still not convinced they have done enough to tempt people away from the less expensive Sony option. Many people myself included thought that the new Canon would just be a fresher version of the Canon EOS 400D and the only stand out feature available on this 1000D that the 400 did not offer was a live view, so were Canon trying to pull the wool...

Review of Canon EOS 1000D

Living with a 5D after a 20D

Advantages: Full frame sensor, very high resolution, excellent operation
Disadvantages: Costs double the price of a 30D, hidden extra costs

...marks unless you shoot at f14 or higher - I noticed some on mine when shooting macro at f22. Another reason to buy the better L series lenses - they are weather-resistant designs with extra O-rings and so on. Battery performance is still very good but the 5D does eat it's batteries faster than the 20D did - probably down to extra image processing and the bigger LCD screen (that it shares with the 30D). LOOK OUT! I had a 3rd party battery that was fine in the 20D but was a fraction bigger than the true Canon battery and it got stuck fast in the 5D - so much so that I had to prise it out with a screwdriver! Use only Canon batteries in the 5D! Lens magnification - The big sell for me on the 5D was the 1:1 35mm sensor size. I own a 17-40mm f4 L and a 28-135mm IS lens. Luckily, I never bought any EF-S lenses for the 20D. You can't use...
