Expensive lenses
Review of Canon EOS 450D by
crware
Advantages: Excellent build quality, superb CMOS sensor, low noise at high ISO.
Disadvantages: Poor kit lenses
...This is not a review, but a comment on the shortcomings of investing in this Canon system.
Given the superb performance of the CMOS image sensor, particularly at high sensitivity settings, the lenses offered by Canon as 'kit' lenses are somewhat of a let-down and disappointment for the following reasons:
The camera body does not have image stabilisation. If you wish to have this facility each lens you buy has to have it built in. This makes the lenses inherently more expensive than similar ones without image stabilisation.
The 'kit' lenses (18-55 and 55-250) are not internal focus, therefore the filter thread rotates when you change focus, making the use of polarising filters difficult.
Canon do not supply lens hoods with their lenses and, unless you opt for cheap alternatives, are quite expensive to add on.

Review of Canon EOS 450D by
almarsden
Advantages: Excellent picture quality, easy to use, expandable.
Disadvantages: Expensive.
...Canon EOS 450D
This is a digital SLR camera this is a Single Lens Reflex that allows you to see exactly what you are going to take a photo of via the internal mirrors of the SLR system which improves picture quality and ease of taking pictures.
It is manufactured by the well known brand Canon they make a lot of photography equipment and I see them as a trusted quality brand. This helped me make my buying decision when choosing this model of digital SLR camera. It is the updated model of the Canon EOS 400D which was a highly successful camera and really good quality so this camera has an awful lot going for it.
I bought this camera not for myself but for my dad as he broke his old digital SLR which was a Konica Minolta Dynax 5D and was a 6 mega pixel DSLR, we thought about having this one repaired but it was going to be cheaper to buy...

The best advanced amatuer SLR on the market
Review of Canon EOS 30 by
emla
Advantages: Full SLR capabilities, but also idiot proof
Disadvantages: Not the EOS 3
...) that is not quite the uncomfortable size and weight of the pro-end SLRs in the Canon range.
The only complaint I'd have is that it's not as fast as the higher end EOS cameras, but that's not much of any argument given that this is aimed at a bit lower in the market. It's certainly a sensible place to start if you're looking to progress your SLR photography but aren't ready to commit your cash to one of the more expensive models. In it's price range, this one is excellent value for money and a great work horse.
For anyone new to the Canon EOS system/SLR photography in general, it's worth pointing out that this is a type of camera takes separate lenses and there are an enourmous range available. Also, it's not worth choosing this over - say - the EOS 300, which is much cheaper and easier to use, if you're just thinking of dipping your toes in the water...

Neither interesting, nor exciting
Review of Canon BP 511 Lithium Ion by

G1, G2, G3, G5, G6, Pro 90, PRO 90 IS
EOS Series
D1, 10D, 20D, 300D/Rebel, D30 D60
and with the following digital camcorders:
MV Series
X150i, X100i, XIi, X2i, 650i, 630i, 600i, 600, 450, 430i, 400i, 300i, 300, 30

Optura Series
10, 100MC, 20, 200MC, Pi
To confuse things slightly, the battery may also be referred to as the CANON BP-508, BP-512, BP-522 or BP-535
To conclude - yes there are more exciting things to talk about! Still, I'm impressed with the staying power of these batteries, and would have no hesitation in suggesting them to anyone who has a use for them. 10/10....

I am so glad I bought this lens.
Review of Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 EX Camera Lens by
Nige7Whit
Advantages: Larege aperture, high quality glass, cheaper than Canon.
Disadvantages: It's still a big, pricey lens.
...Big f2.8 aperture lets in more light, allowing the use of faster shutter speeds to freeze movement, especially useful in action sports.
Of course the best lens for me to have bought for my Canon system at the time would have been the Canon L series 70-200mm f2.8, but these lovely lenses are just too expensive for many amateurs (who have to pay for their own equipment, like me). The Sigma offering compares very favourably in reviews in the camera press. Optically, it is not too far behind the Canon lens, and price wise, I would say 2/3 of the price of the Canon lens, although Canon have recently introduced a version of the 70-200mm f2.8L with Image Stabilisation, and that is a very nice lens indeed !
I bought my Sigma through ebay, and paid £450 for a mint example, with the box, case, instructions etc. I had decided that I wanted one...

Great all in one camera, but not perfect.
Review of Canon PowerShot Pro1 by
Nige7Whit
Advantages: Great still images
Disadvantages: Some technical limitations, read more
...As a 35mm user with a great deal of kit for my Canon SLRs, I would have liked to buy a digital SLR, but couldn't easily afford one at the time (I had a long trip coming up, and really wanted a digital camera to take with me). Looking at the various reviews of new cameras, I was interested in the Canon Powershot Pro 1 for several reasons, mainly the resolution, but also the name and familiarity that comes with buying a top brand, many of the controls are similar to Canon's SLR layout, so commonality bonus points there !
I got my camera via ebay, and saved a lot, in fact, if I hadn't been fortunate to win the auction at £450, then I probably wouldn't have got this particular model at all, there was no way I would have bought one at the (then) shop price of £850.
I saved enough on the camera to get a couple of (non Canon) batteries...

The Big Picture Machine
Review of Canon i 450 by
Floon
Advantages: Borderless printing, speed, print quality
Disadvantages: Not very pretty machine (but who cares?), No USB cable
...stores that might sell the beast in question. A couple of them said the 830 / 830U was about to be phased out to make way for something even better. Others had them in stock at about £80. The bloke at Staples said they were out of them but reckoned that the Canon i450 was just as good and cost £79.99.
I looked up Choice Stationery’s website (see my op on them). They used to provide me with ink cartridges for the aforementioned Epson at ridiculously low prices. Could they do the same for either the 830U or the i450?
And indeed they could (and can). For the 830U the price of a twin pack (i.e. one black, one colour) is £7.99 and considerably less if you buy more. For the i450 the cost of a black cartridge is £2.49 and a colour £3.49.
So that’s all right then.
I decided to take trip to Staples and have a look for myself.

Canon 300D
Review of Canon EOS 300D by
PaulineLees
Advantages: Easy to handle, aquaint yourself with and easy to use. Lenses compatible with higher models.
Disadvantages: I can't fault it!
...This camera is an excellent DSLR for any beginner or amatuer. I bought this when Photography was just a hobby, now on a degree course I still find it exceptional. A little more camera to hold on to compared with the 2 newer models, which I personally prefer.
As previously stated it is compatible with all canon EF lenses, so if you wish to update in the future you can carry your lenses with you!
I personally love my camera and despite being updated twice since my purchase it has held its value wonderfully. Canon offer an endless supply of accessories for their cameras, most reasonably priced for plenty of experimentation and fun. I cannot fault my experience so far with canon.
I do not claim to be a prefessional so please read some of the other reviews. I just offer my personal opinion. Canon was leading in this type of camera when I...

Canon EF 70mm-200mm F/4 L USM
Review of Canon EF 70-200mm F4.0 L USM by
PaulineLees
Advantages: Light weight, Sharp, Fast, Reasonably Priced
Disadvantages: Not Image Stabilised, Tripod Collar not included
...I have been using my 70mm-200mm F4.0 L for roughly 2 years on a 20D body.
It is very quick to focus and is very sharp throughout the focal range. The bokeh is very soft at F/4 giving a soft, out of focus background.
The lens is extremely light, making it easy to transport.
I find it an extremely useful lens, due to the extensive range from 70mm-200mm and use it with a 1.4x converter to create a total length of 280mm. I personally use my lens to take images of motorsport and wildlife, which it lends itself to beautifully. The build quality of this lens is excellent - which means no wobbling and smooth controls.
A few more specification details - The optical construction is made of 16 elements in 13 groups, including 1 CaF2 and 2 UD elements. The minimum focus distance is 1.32m resulting in a maximum object magnification of 1:5 at 200...

cannon Fodder
Review of Cannon Fodder (GB) by
jambo5000
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...Cannon Fodder is one of the those classics which doesn't rely all the fancy 3D graphics, movie-like sequences, or oversized structure of so many new games (though incredibly this new version does include full motion video!). Instead it harks back to an era when gameplay came first. Just the sort of thing that discerning Gameboy owners can't get enough of, in other words. Sporting a neat cartoon look, Cannon Fodder is nevertheless a game of surprising subtlety, mixing arcade-style action and wonderfully immediate controls with a design that demands players form real strategies as they progress through a series of ever-more lethal warzones, doing their utmost to keep their soldiers alive and well.
With 72 levels, some forty times the size of the Gameboy screen, and a range of military hardware including jeeps, helicopters, bazookas...
