Canon CanoScan
Advantages: Fast, film scanning, high resolution
Disadvantages: poor film scanning, no standby button
...Intro
This scanner from Canon is a flatbed scanner, which can also scan film. Yes, that means you can scan your old negatives! Of course, if you don?t need to, don't let that put you off this scanner. This is one of Canon's mid-range scanners, higher models have better film scanning.
Installation of this scanner was a breeze. First, you have to unpack the scanner. Whilst this may seem like a minor point, it does actually take a little while because all the parts of the scanner is secured by many little red tape strips of tape, which you have to remove. Whilst this does take a little while, you can be sure your scanner was fully protected in transportation and is assuring. After that you just have to connect the USB and power cables and install the software, and you're ready to go.
Speed
This scanner is much faster...

CanoScan LiDE 100 - I Love My LiDE
Advantages: Fabulous quality for scanned documents, both colour and B&W
Disadvantages: Somewhat slow when scanning at highest resolutions
...various ways. You also get MP Navigator EX which is Canon?s standard application for the CanoScan LiDE 100 range which works with Windows versions 2000, 7, Vista and XP amongst others and allows you to edit your scanned documents/images as well as a host of other features which I don?t feel the necessity to include here. You also have Canon ScanGear included on the software CD which is a very basic utility for scanning your items if you don?t want all the additional features offered by the other software packages included.
I find my scanner very reliable - not once have I had to rescan something because it got an error halfway through and it's barely audible, i.e. pretty silent compared to my previous home scanner (which was a Mustek something or other).

Can CanoScan scan for Canon?
Advantages: Small, slim, light and practical
Disadvantages: No slide copier
...Canon CanoScan
The Canon CanoScan LIDE 60 is one of my most recent buys.
It has a very hard act to follow in my study - an HP Scanjet 6300 which I reviewed some time ago.
Buying
The HP decided to die on me, just when I needed it in connection with a funeral!
I needed to scan a photo for an order of service in full colour, and the HP was lifeless.
A quick trip to PCW was my only hope, and faced me with a dilemma. Would I go top of the range - my normal approach - or get by with something cheapish.
The latter was the option which led me to the Canon. At under £50 it seemed to offer all I really needed, and did the job perfectly once I got it home.
Appearances.
This is a wonderfully light, slim model - and sits on its edge on the desktop if need be.

CanoScan - great quality scans at the touch of a button
Advantages: Quick, easy to use, quiet, great quality scans
Disadvantages: Fairly expensive
...The Canon CanoScan is a great all-round flatbed scanner. It is a good size (25cm x 36cm x 4cm) to enable all regular scanning, whilst not taking up unnecessary desk space. It has a resolution of 4800dpi x 4800 dpi, which results in great quality scans, of both black and white or colour documents/images.
Whilst I have been rather let down by other scanners, this one is really easy to use and gives fantastic results. It is easy to scan in regular sheets/photos, but the lid also allows you to scan notebooks etc. Although other scanners I have used have allowed you to do this, the results have not been so good; often having the lid slightly ajar results in bleached patches of the scanned document, due to light getting in. However, I have personally not suffered any problems like that with this scanner.
When scanning documents, text comes...

Canon Canoscan 8600F review
Advantages: Nice and fast for reflective scanning, good result from film at larger sizes.
Disadvantages: Not good enough for large prints of scanned 35mm film.
...The canon Canoscan 8600F are best suited for reflective scanning and film of greater size that 35mm.
For large format and medium format film it is quite good actually and should allow you to make large print from your scan.
Images are a tad soft straight from the scanner but respond well to USM sharpening.
For regular 35mm film scans will be good for smaller prints and work just fine if your main goal is to use your images for web use and digital albums.
Film holders for most formats are included.
Silverfast LE scanner software included and gives you more control over scan quality
If I sum up:
The 8600F is not up to the discontinued Canon 9950F or the new Epson V700 but it is also a great bit cheaper and Nice for its price!
Anyhow if your plans are to produce high quality gallery prints, the I suggest that you shop...

Canon Quality
Advantages: Same Canon quality we have come to expect, great ISO capabilities.
Disadvantages: Buttons can get fiddly in the cold.
... Canon 500D
Introduction
Canons range of cameras is very impressive. Everyone can be accommodated for, there really is something for everyone.
Camera Itself
First off, the camera. The sensor on this model has a larger pixel count than many of its rivals and cheaper models in the range. The 15.1 megapixels on offer is more than enough for the market it is aimed at, these images will easily be blown up above A3 and still retain most of the detail. The new addition to this camera that sets it apart from the older models is the Full 1080p movies. Many photographers don?t like this new mode but if you don?t, then simply don?t use it. Having the functionality of a high quality video camera on family holidays and such will be welcomed by the enthusiast market at which this is aimed toward. One problem I found...

Canon CanoScan USB 3200F
Advantages: Lightweight, Good range of software included
Disadvantages: Non-detachable lid, Some driver quirks
...The CanoScan 3200F offer good performance at a price that is not too bad. It comes with it's own software as well as with all the cables that are needed, mainly the USB and power adaptor. There is also a photo plate for scanning in photos.
Setup is fairly simple, you just plug in the scanner, turn on your computer and then install the software. Canon are generous in that they give you not only the driver but also their own scanning application, Manual CanoScan. You also get the standard Edition of the popular and best-selling OCR/Scanning software, ScanSoft Omnipage, as well as a toolbox application that allows you to carry out basic functions from a little palatte windows in the corner of your screen.
The scanner itself is lightweight and slightly larger than a sheet of A4 paper. There are four buttons on the front which...

Canon LiDE 35 Scanner
Advantages: lightweight, fast and easy to set up and use. nice slimline design.
Disadvantages: None that I have found
...A few months ago my old Agfa Snapscan 1212 gave up the ghost. Not surprising because I've had it since? it's been that long I honestly can't remember! It connected to the computer via the parallel port and was slower than the M25 with just one lane open. Mind you, just like the M25 when I first used it I thought it was terrific!
It was in PCWorld that I first looked at the Canon LiDE35 - I'm afraid I wanted this machine so badly, I didn't shop around and bought it there and there. I loved its slim looks and the fact that it didn't need it's own power supply. It works directly from the USB connection.
The scanner was well packaged in a nice strong box with a carry handle that I found handy to keep it stored when it's not in use. The software was child's play to load and easy to understand. It also linked itself to my Photographic...

canons ultimate scanner
Advantages: fairly easy to use and great software
Disadvantages: yet to find one
...transfers and scanning speeds.
The included software greatly enhances resolution, up to an amazing 19200 colour dpi. Built-in retouching technology removes much of the dust and scratches on original prints, and revives faded images. One convenient cable to your computer provides both a USB connection and power. Large function buttons automate the scanning process - select the use for the image, and it's ready in seconds.
priced between 65 and 80 pound this scanner is nowhere near the most expensive on the market but cant be far off being one of the best!
feast your eyes over its impresive Specifications.

The CanoScan Can
Advantages: No Power Supply, Slimline, High Resolution
Disadvantages: Slow
...that didn't need a mains power supply.
A trip to the local Currys revealed that I had basically two choices. Both of them Canon scanners, both ultra-thin (barely 1 inch thick!) and capable of being stood on one edge, and both of them taking their power from the USB port. The two models in question were the canoscan 676u and the canoscan 1240u. With a difference of only £20 between them I opted for the one with the higher model number, safe in the knowledge that it must have a better specification if it had a bigger number in it's name!
Speaking of the specification it boasts the following:
- 1200 x 2400 dpi resolution
- 48bit internal colour depth
- 3 one-touch buttons for easy operation
- upright scan function
- z-lid capable of dealing with thick books (yeah, right!)
- usb interface (which also supplies the power...
