Canon IXUS 95 IS: The best amateur digital camera on the market

Advantages: Very high quality pictures for both print and web work.
Disadvantages: The bundled software that comes with it has a very Fisherprice feel about it.

...After reading many reviews on Amazon and amateur camera sites about the different types of hobbyist level digital cameras, I decided to buy one of these. The camera itself has a metal casing and so has a sleek feel and look to it. It's very light weight and compact making it very easy to carry around in a handbag or while, (and most importantly) taking pictures! I found that it took only 5 - 10 minutes to get the camera working from out of the box. It was so simple, I didn't take that much notice of the manual. When starting up the camera, it isn't slow like they digital cameras of yesteryear. Its ability to capture anything in an instant is one of it's many advantages. The photos it and you produce are very high quality, as I found out the other day when I had some printed off at home. The only downside is the bundled software...

Canon Ixus 100 IS - Small and oh so stylish

Advantages: Small, Stylish, Auto modes work well, Image Stabilization
Disadvantages: HD Video capability is disappointing

So glad to be back to a Canon!

Advantages: Small, tough, simple and fast to use
Disadvantages: A little expensive

...and I am still pleased with my purchase. Summary I'm realling enjoying using the Canon and it lives in my pocket most of the time now, before my camera would always be in a jacket pocket or a bag somewhere. It's not the cheapest of compact digital cameras and I have no idea if it is significantly better than others, but it's a real improvement over previous cameras for me and it seems to suit my needs. Of course if you are going to do some serious photography then please read some information from somebody that knows about these things :-) (also posted on dooyoo)...

Canon Digital IXUS 85 IS

Advantages: 10 mega pixel gives amazing quality of shots
Disadvantages: not very weather proof

Canon Digital IXUS 80 IS -nice little camera

Advantages: Nice little pocket camera with all the necessary features
Disadvantages: Can't really think of anything

...I am not an expert on digital cameras and this is just the second one I bought. So I cannot really compare the Ixus 80 with other cameras. Nevertheless, I really like it. Looks The Lxus 80 comes in Classic Silver, Caramel, Chocolate and Candy Pink in an aluminium body. It is small enough to fit in a pocket and can be tacken anywhere with no problems. As far as I can say it is very reliable and does brilliant pictures for a normal user. Features It works with 8 megapixels .The 3x zoom works for all the general snapshot moments. It comes with an Image Stabilization (IS moniker) to reduce camera shake. As far as I know this is not standard on all cameras yet, but becomes more normal in newer models. The lens is glass, so it?s definitely an advantage towards cameras with a plastic lens. You can certainly see that in the quality...

Canon IXUS 990 IS, excellent camera despite the price

Disadvantages: expensive, useless memory card, slightly bulky

...This is the second Cannon IXUS model that I have purchased and as before I have been impressed. Picture quality is excellent even when using the digital zoom although a stand is recommended, particularly in poor light. One of the things that make these cameras so attractive is the ease of use, along with a range of camera modes which allow even novices to take good photos in range of environments. I have had the camera for almost 2 years now and it still works well with no signs of drop in performance. The cameras look is stylish with no visible signs of scratches despite its frequent use. The only drawbacks are the cost which is still relatively expensive compared with other models currently out there with the same specification and the size which is quite chunky. At the time that was a great price online but I'm sure you can get other better models in the Ixus range for cheaper now. I've managed to combine it's use from holiday snaps abroad to trying some more creative amateur shots. It has a great deal of functions including some which you won't find in some of it's rivals. E.g. the wide angle lens allows you to shoot in widescreen shots, particularly useful for group shots or landscapes. You can also use colour select mode which allows you to shoot a picture with only one colour showing up e.g. good for capturing flowers etc. Colour replace allows you to replace colours. This allows you to get creative with just a small amount of skill...

I bought the Canon Ixus 960 IS as a solution to taking a digital SLR, plus lenses etc. due to hand luggage restrictions as it easily fits in a pocket. The image quality is pin sharp, focussing exceptional and since I have problems with camera shake due to arthritis I was overjoyed to find that the image-stabiliser technology works really well, except in the very darkest of night shots (taken on the cruise ship's deck).
