...I have used this camcorder for filming both corporate events and short films and for both it excelled. The camcorder produces excellent broadcast quality images and has full manual control over the image or can be set to full auto for less experienced users. Canon offer a wide range of accessories for the XL1s for the professional filmaker, these include a full manual lens, XLR audio adapter, black and white CRT viewfinder and many more. The camera is easy to use and is fairly lghtweight and portable which makes it ideal for electronic news gathering. The only issue I have with this camera is the slow autofocus speed, however unless you are doing very fast panning shots this is not a problem. In all a very good camcorder from Canon....

Canon DC10 - a reasonable camcorder

Review of Canon DC 10

Semi-Pro XM2, excellence from Canon

Advantages: Lightweight, excellent picture quality, ease of use, hot-shoe for attachments
Disadvantages: Manual isn't so helpful. Not so good with low-light conditions.

Canon MD205 Mini DV Camcorder for all the family

Advantages: Compact. Good zoom. Good image quality Budget price.
Disadvantages: No separate battery charger supplied. Lots of PC disc space needed for film editing.

A separate battery charger was NOT supplied with my camera so the battery has to be charged from the mains supply whilst in the camera itself. I find this a bit limiting and a separate battery charger would have been a useful accessory to have. All in all I have been very pleased with my Canon MD205 Mini DV Camcorder and would recommend it as a good 'budget' camera for a family to use to create lasting memories....

Canon XM2 - the camera that nearly made it

Advantages: Picture quality, interface/functionability, weight, size
Disadvantages: Sound quality, can't charge and mains power simultaneously

..., which can only be remdied if you buy a converter (for microphones using an XLR) or by buying a canon DM-50 microphone attachment. Neither of these can be done for less than £130 at present to the best of my knowledge. With the camera you get standard accessories such as a remote control, battery pack, battery pack charger, mains connection, drivers and manual. The Mains connection is easy to damage as the lead comes out of the battery attachment upwards meaning it is constantly being bent over itself and can be damaged by the slightest pull on the power lead. Also, the battery pack cannot charge while the camera is connected to the mains. On the whole I have been thoroughly pleased with this camera, but I feel there are just a few little adjustments needed. I would give this item a rating of 4.5 out of 5....

Canon Powershot SX200 IS

Advantages: Lots of zoom, lots of pixels, sturdy
Disadvantages: No internal memory, flash pops up whether you want it to or not

...find it less fiddly when you are taking photos and need a quick battery change. d) SD-HC memory cards. I already have several of these for my DSLR which is convenient and means any of my cards can be used in both of my cameras. e) HD video capability of 1280x720. This wasn't majorly important but with the memory cards being so cheap then it's a bonus to have the capability of recording video. Quite good when you are on holiday or at a family gathering and want to record some video but don't want the hassle of a separate camcorder. Finally, I took advantage of a Canon promotion which gave £40 cashback on this particular model. I'd already decided on this camera so the cashback was a nice bonus. All in all, it cost £234.55 including delivery from Jessops.com. After a few weeks of use I'm finding that I really like this camera...

The build quality is good and each camera component feels strong and well built. The supplied user manual leads you through the step-by-step assembly of the camera although some of the stages are not explained very clearly. However, the connection of each of the camera's components to the main body is very logical and could be undertaken without using the manual. Once assembled the camera does feel quite heavy with the centre of gravity leaning slightly towards the front of the camera.
