Canon EOS 400D Camera

Advantages: great value, reliable, can use older lenses, great quality, great battery life,
Disadvantages: extras are expensive, speed wheel too close to shot button, so many features can become confusing

...I have had this camera for around a year now and have found it to be an amazing reliable product. The battery life and features are vast although this has been superseeded by newer models with more features I believe this camera does its jobs well and the fact newer models have come out has reduced the price on the camera making it an even more a great entry level camera for the digital photographer. Also the ability to use older lenses that dont have digital features is also good as it helps to keep costs down on getting setup. The only issue I have with the camera is that one of the speed controls is on the front right a bit too close to the button for taking a picture. Which I find gets accidently moved and affects shots....

...Review EOS 400d The canon 400D is a good camera - for the price it's a great camera. It's relatively compact; lightweight; comes with an adequate lens; has programmed settings for novices - like portrait and landscape modes; but also offers manual control of apertures, shutter speeds, white balance, ISO? so that the more experienced photographers can have fun and be a little more creative. One item to note if you are upgrading from a digital compact is that you have to use the viewfinder. The screen on the back of the camera only shows exposure information, and allows you to view photographs you have already taken. It does not let you view the scene you are about to photograph. In my opinion this is a good thing because it forces you to hold the camera properly - up against your face where it can be held steadily, instead of at arms...

Canon EOS 400D - Great Value for money Digital SLR

Advantages: Good price, easy to use
Disadvantages: Has been superceded

...Having had a Canon EOS 350D, when the 400D was launched I was so confident of the brand that it was a forgone conclusion that I would buy one. The build quality is the first positive point. It is such a solid camera, not that you would bash it on purpose, but it'll certainly take a few knocks without any problems. The 18-55mm kit lens that I got with mine is also pretty good. This does feel a little cheaply made in comparison to the camera, but it does the job and has good optics. The screen on the back of the unit gives you all the information needed. Once a picture is taken it also gives you a preview. There is no live view, like point-and-shoot compacts and the latest digital SLR's. This means that framing your photos is done through the VERY clear optical viewfinder. The results are just stunning. The EOS 400D will beat any compact...

The Canon EOS400D delivers photographic excellence to the masses.

Advantages: Compatable with huge range of Canon accesories, build quality, ease of use, loads of features
Disadvantages: No spot metering, kit lens a little cheap

...I've had this camera for eighteen months, and bought it to replace my trusty old EOS 1000. This allowed me to use my existing USM lenses, though do bear in mind that the focal lengths do change when using digital SLRs. The camera feels well built, and has not given me any trouble so far. Some reviewers complain about the small size, well I have large hands but have found the camera easy to use and well laid out. A welcome feature missing from my old EOS model is the depth of field preview. A less welcome omission however is spot metering. The camera is packed full of features including 'coloured' filters for black and white pictures. The menu system is easy to navigate, although it can be defficult to remember where some of the features are to be found. However the intruction book is both very comprehensive and well written...

Canon EOS400D a fantastic entry level DSLR

Advantages: 10.2 mega pixels, good price, loads of settings, user friendly manual, auto setting
Disadvantages: None that I have come across yet

...I had been looking to upgrade from my trusty compact camera for some time, and after reading numerous reviews on entry level SLRS, I opted for the canon EOS400D and what a good choice it was. It has everything that you could want for you first SLR, and unless you are a top end professional photographer, this camera will pretty much suit anyone. I find it easy to use, and comes with a user friendly guide. There are several pre set modes and an auto mode as well as the programme and manual mode for when you get more experience and want to enjoy the flexiblilty of altering shutter speeds and aperture size. It can produce up to 10.2 mega pixels which is more than adequate, and for an entry level SLR, this is a lot higher than others I considered. The Canon EOS400D has become a bit of a clasic, and I am having so much fun with this...

The" Canon EOS400D" is a pretty black box, lightweight of about 500grams ,compact and seems to be robust, with an 1.8/55 lens. Advantages: ease of use and handling

...We bought this camera 2 months ago for our son who was looking for his first "proper" camera to enhance his GCSE coursework etc. We have both used Canons before in the past and have always found them to be very reliable. We have been attracted by the excellent value for money this product brings - superb features at the price of more inferior models. We have taken full advantage of the Canon 50th Anniversary money back scheme and will be buying an extra new lens this way soon. I have been assiting our son by diving into the manual and explaining things to him as he finds something that interests him. Most of the time he is able to work everything out for himself becuse the symbols and data screens give him everything he needs. He has taken some beautiful pictures with this camera and we have all been stunned by the quality...

Travels with my 400D

Advantages: Cheap, good image quality, leading brand, good entry level camera
Disadvantages: Perhaps slightly small
