...Review EOS 400d The canon 400D is a good camera - for the price it's a great camera. It's relatively compact; lightweight; comes with an adequate lens; has programmed settings for novices - like portrait and landscape modes; but also offers manual control of apertures, shutter speeds, white balance, ISO? so that the more experienced photographers can have fun and be a little more creative. One item to note if you are upgrading from a digital compact is that you have to use the viewfinder. The screen on the back of the camera only shows exposure information, and allows you to view photographs you have already taken. It does not let you view the scene you are about to photograph. In my opinion this is a good thing because it forces you to hold the camera properly - up against your face where it can be held steadily, instead of at arms...

Canon EOS 400D - Great Value for money Digital SLR

...camera hands-down when it comes to image quality. One problem I did have with my 350D was dust on the image sensor. Well, the 400D has a sensor cleaning mechanism, this works great every time you switch the camera on. In summary, the EOS 400D handles like a pro-level SLR. Has great features, excellent manual control and also gains you access to Canon's wide range of add-ons and lenses. I am very happy with this camera and will always stick with Canon as a result. NB. Review of Canon EOS 400D

The Canon EOS400D delivers photographic excellence to the masses.

Advantages: Compatable with huge range of Canon accesories, build quality, ease of use, loads of features
Disadvantages: No spot metering, kit lens a little cheap

...I've had this camera for eighteen months, and bought it to replace my trusty old EOS 1000. This allowed me to use my existing USM lenses, though do bear in mind that the focal lengths do change when using digital SLRs. The camera feels well built, and has not given me any trouble so far. Some reviewers complain about the small size, well I have large hands but have found the camera easy to use and well laid out. A welcome feature missing from my old EOS model is the depth of field preview. A less welcome omission however is spot metering. The camera is packed full of features including 'coloured' filters for black and white pictures. The menu system is easy to navigate, although it can be defficult to remember where some of the features are to be found. However the intruction book is both very comprehensive and well written...

Canon EOS 400D Camera

Advantages: great value, reliable, can use older lenses, great quality, great battery life,
Disadvantages: extras are expensive, speed wheel too close to shot button, so many features can become confusing

...I have had this camera for around a year now and have found it to be an amazing reliable product. The battery life and features are vast although this has been superseeded by newer models with more features I believe this camera does its jobs well and the fact newer models have come out has reduced the price on the camera making it an even more a great entry level camera for the digital photographer. Also the ability to use older lenses that dont have digital features is also good as it helps to keep costs down on getting setup. The only issue I have with the camera is that one of the speed controls is on the front right a bit too close to the button for taking a picture. Which I find gets accidently moved and affects shots....

Canon EOS400D a fantastic entry level DSLR

Advantages: 10.2 mega pixels, good price, loads of settings, user friendly manual, auto setting
Disadvantages: None that I have come across yet

...I had been looking to upgrade from my trusty compact camera for some time, and after reading numerous reviews on entry level SLRS, I opted for the canon EOS400D and what a good choice it was. It has everything that you could want for you first SLR, and unless you are a top end professional photographer, this camera will pretty much suit anyone. I find it easy to use, and comes with a user friendly guide. There are several pre set modes and an auto mode as well as the programme and manual mode for when you get more experience and want to enjoy the flexiblilty of altering shutter speeds and aperture size. It can produce up to 10.2 mega pixels which is more than adequate, and for an entry level SLR, this is a lot higher than others I considered. The Canon EOS400D has become a bit of a clasic, and I am having so much fun with this...

The" Canon EOS400D" is a pretty black box, lightweight of about 500grams ,compact and seems to be robust, with an 1.8/55 lens. Travels with my 400D

Advantages: Cheap, good image quality, leading brand, good entry level camera
Disadvantages: Perhaps slightly small

Advantages: Picture Quality, 9AF focussing, expandability, easy to use
Disadvantages: not so good kit lense

...Buying this in the Summer of 2008, just before they upgraded it to the 1000D has been the best buy ive ever made. Its a shame about not getting the 1000D but the only advantage would be the live view that i would not use. As a photography, I new a little about aperture and shutter speeds, and this camera has allowed me to learn a great deal. The images, are warm and clear, and the possibilities are endless. The 9 point AF focussing is key, which is lacking in other manufacturers. It is a definite key part of this camera. It is a key buy for those who want to venture into photography and for those who want to upgrade. I am planning to invest in more lenses, to make this camera produce some more amazing imagery...
