Reviews of canon eos kit
Nearly the best ever !
Review of Canon - Canon by
MarcusPerkins
Advantages: Huge Spec, Ease of Use
Disadvantages: No built in flash
...I have built up my camera kit over a period of years on a very tight budget whilst trying to raise a family. I brought my EOS600 3 years ago for £180 with a cheap Sigma 35-80 lens. I read lots of reviews in magazines and decided that for the spec, no other budget used AF SLR comes close.
This was the EOS 1 of its day, when Minolta and Canon were battling for supremacy in the new AF market.
5fps motorwind, Predictive AF, Depth mode , Program Mode, Shutter Priority, Aperature Priority, Full Manual, Partial Metering, Multi Segment and Manual Metering are some of the main features this camera has.
I have now upgraded my lenses to a Sigma 100-300 and a Canon 28-80 USM. The results are excellent and the USM lens works as well as on the the very latest EOS cameras.
The only real draw back for me is the lack of a cheap off camera Hot shoe...

Canon EOS 30D
Review of Canon EOS 30D by
Nazuku
Advantages: Multi-featured
Disadvantages: None
...This is a good quality product that offers good value for money in the very short term. Although as with most electronic products, the value will deteriorate over time and should be able to get a cheaper version next year. It's a great little device with plenty of features that I would highly recommend. This really is a wonderful piece of kit that should go well with many accessories because it really looks good. However, always think carefully as to whether you actually really need something before you buy it. We buy so many things nowadays that we don't really need.

Expensive lenses
Review of Canon EOS 450D by
crware
Advantages: Excellent build quality, superb CMOS sensor, low noise at high ISO.
Disadvantages: Poor kit lenses
...This is not a review, but a comment on the shortcomings of investing in this Canon system.
Given the superb performance of the CMOS image sensor, particularly at high sensitivity settings, the lenses offered by Canon as 'kit' lenses are somewhat of a let-down and disappointment for the following reasons:
The camera body does not have image stabilisation. If you wish to have this facility each lens you buy has to have it built in. This makes the lenses inherently more expensive than similar ones without image stabilisation.
The 'kit' lenses (18-55 and 55-250) are not internal focus, therefore the filter thread rotates when you change focus, making the use of polarising filters difficult.
Canon do not supply lens hoods with their lenses and, unless you opt for cheap alternatives, are quite expensive to add on.
To get the best from...

Canon EOS30V DATE
Review of Canon EOS30V DATE by
Bellboy05
Advantages: see below
Disadvantages: see below
...came upon this camera by accident. I was buying a spare camera for my wife who wants to take up photography. I was using a EOS1V. Then, I decide to shift to all manual. I am current using F3HP + FM3A.
On every weekend, I like to go plane spotting. It is difficult not to use auto-focus camera for this purpose. This camera then become my tool! It has logged more miles than my Nikon now. I am seriously wondering, with the good experience of this 300v, should I purhcase the new EOS30V. I forgot to mention, I hate digital camera.
300V has many good advantages. It is light and ergonomic to hold (I have big hand, even without the battery grip, I still told this camera well) The kit lens, though look cheap and ugly, is actually quite good for general photography. Canon did a good job at packaging this 30v and put a rather futuristic look...

Good Advanced Amateur Camera
Review of Canon EOS 50E QD by
mlheintz
Advantages: Full Photographic Control, Eye-Controlled Focus
Disadvantages: Can't use IR films
...he Canon EOS 50E QD is a retro-style 35mm single-lens reflex (SLR) camera. I purchased mine in January 1999 and have had great results.
This camera supports all EOS lenses and has the standard EOS command dial that offers users a choice of shooting modes. For beginners, this camera offers fully automatic, portrait, landscape, macro and sport modes. In these modes, the camera chooses the best combination of aperature and shutter. For more advanced users, the camera offers program, shutter priority, aperature priority and fully manual shooting modes. Additionally, the camera has a depth of field mode which allows users to pick two points in the frame for the area of focus. The camera also offers a quartz-date function for date printing on the photo, but I choose not to use this.
I have had great success with this camera. I bought...

Good APS SLR
Review of Canon EOS IX by
mlheintz
Advantages: Full EOS Compatability, APS Film interchangability
Disadvantages: Limited APS films, smaller negative
...The Canon EOS IX is an APS format Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera. It has full compatability will all EOS lenses.
I bought this camera as a backup for my EOS 50E (Elan IIE) kit. I wanted some of the advantages of APS without losing my investment in my EOS kit. The camera has not had a great deal of interest as a result of its off-centre lens mount, but I have had no balance problems with it. In fact, I find it easier to use than my 50E.
The picture quality from the EOS IX is excellent. I tend to shoot FujiChrome 100ix APS slide film, Fuji Nexia 100F or Kodak 400 B&W films. These are the only films that I have had good results with in the APS range which is one of the draw backs of using an APS SLR. However, since this is my backup / holiday camera, these allow for all my shooting needs.
The only real down-side to using...

The EOS 300D is excellent value for money
Review of Canon EOS 300 by
alistairr24
Advantages: Easy to use with manual overide
Disadvantages: No external flash connection
...The EOS 300D, what a great bit of kit, I sold my old Bronica medium format setup to buy this camera. Not disappointed in the slightest apart from the flash positioning, when taking close-up photos.
It only took around a day to familiarise myself with EOS 300, which is all credit to the Canon quick guide and simple to use menu. The EOS 300 is very light considering it is a full size SLR camera, even with a 200 mm lens, but robust (after dropping mine twice).
The auto-focus system is accurate and easy to use, helping you to achieve the depth of field, maybe a few too many beeps!
The manual over-ride control dial allows you to set the camera's automatic ISO setting and at the same time setting the correct film speed. The EOS300 gives you a wide range of choices from full manual to fully automatic, allowing you to dial to what type...

The EOS 300D or Rebel
Review of Canon EOS 300D by
alistairr24
Advantages: Easy to use with vg manual overide and great features
Disadvantages: No external flash connection
...The EOS 300D or Rebel (US), what a great bit of kit, I sold my old Bronica medium format setup to buy this camera. I have not been disappointed in the slightest apart from the flash positioning, when taking close-up photos. It would be great if you could change the angle to gain. If you do a great deal of flash photography then I would recommend an external flash gun, using the hot shoe as the trigger point.

Canon EOS 400D
Review of Canon EOS 400D by
girlinterrupted
Advantages: The EOS Integrated Cleaning System, lightweight, compact
Disadvantages: There is no PC sync
...This camera is ideal for those wishing to buy their first SLR. It's easy to understand menus make it comprehendable and easy to quickly advance in your skills.
The camera comes complete with the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, a trusty lense for beginners. However, this camera is not just for beginners. With a vast range of functions, this camera is perfect for those who's interest in photography is more than just a hobby.
It's lightweight compact body is quite similar to it's older brother, the 350D, but much more sturdy than the 300D, allowing it to fit perfectly into the hands.
New to many cameras, the 400D contains the EOS Integrated Cleaning System, which cleans the sensor of dust particles.
You can expect to pay around 400pounds for this camera and it's kit. A very decent price compared to many other 10megapixel SLRs.
As an owner...

AN APS SLR TO SNAP UP
Review of Canon EOS IX 7 by
scotty037
Advantages: Durable, long lasting, small, high quality pictures
Disadvantages: No case supplied, high battery usage
...Canon are renowned for their ability to create easy to use, stylish, technologically advanced cameras for a reasonable price. Before this camera I had a Canon IXUS (a.k.a. Canon ELPH), which was an amazing piece of kit and lasted me many years (see my other reviews to find my Canon IXUS one). At first I was not heavily into photography, but found myself yearning for a more advanced camera than a basic AF camera, and so, I went shopping!
I made a conscientious decision to stay with both Canon and the Advanced Photo System (APS), and so was pleasantly surprised to find my search would lead to only two cameras. The Canon EOS IX7 and the Canon EOS IX, both were as I said APS and Canon.
I made the choice of the IX-7, it was smaller and lighter, and looked aesthetically pleasing. It was also a bit more expensive, but still, it was worth...
