Review of Canon EOS 300

Canon 300D

Advantages: Easy to handle, aquaint yourself with and easy to use. Lenses compatible with higher models.
Disadvantages: I can't fault it!

...This camera is an excellent DSLR for any beginner or amatuer. I bought this when Photography was just a hobby, now on a degree course I still find it exceptional. A little more camera to hold on to compared with the 2 newer models, which I personally prefer. As previously stated it is compatible with all canon EF lenses, so if you wish to update in the future you can carry your lenses with you! I personally love my camera and despite being updated twice since my purchase it has held its value wonderfully. Canon offer an endless supply of accessories for their cameras, most reasonably priced for plenty of experimentation and fun. I cannot fault my experience so far with canon. I do not claim to be a prefessional so please read some of the other reviews. I just offer my personal opinion. Canon was leading in this type of camera...

Review of Canon EOS 300D

Canon 75-300mm USM III - A good all-round lens but not perfect

...I have read several positive reviews about the Canon 75-300mm USM III lens but I don't share other people's enthusiasm because it is not nearly as sharp as I would expect from a Canon lens. Of course, compared to the Canon L Series lenses, this is an incredibly inexpensive item and, in its defence, I do find that my Canon EOS 50D, with it's jam-packed 15mp APS-C sensor, is very difficult to marry up with a lense to get the most out of it (unless you are prepared to spend thousands). At the close end of the focal range, the picture is crisp and sharp but unfortunately this tails off quite noticeably as the lens is extended (as does the auto-focus accuracy) and I have even taken to focusing the lens manually when it is at full extent, using the camera's magnified live-view to ensure crisp results. It is also a little slow...

  Canon Powershot A300 - Amazing Value!

Advantages: Compact and takes great pictures.
Disadvantages: No optical zoom.

The pictures were taken by myself and are entirely un-editted (i.e. haven't been touched-up in a photo program). Click on the camera icon next to "Canon Powershot A300 - Amazing Value!" to see them. Unfortunately Ciao resizes the images so even their "XXL-View" is a pathetic 1/4 of the actual size. Leave me a message and I might be able to e-mail you a full resolution picture if you want (0.5 - 2 mb each). ------------------------ When I bought this camera from Amazon 2 years ago for £160, I thought it was great value. Now selling for £110 it's even cheaper but still competes well with the competition! If you want a camera with optical zoom, then unfortunately this isn't the one for you...

Review of Canon EOS 300D

An excellent Canon L series lens

Advantages: Solid build quality, excellent results, quick focussing, quiet motor
Disadvantages: Rather expensive, could be heavy if carrying around all day

...fastened to another collar, which can be removed to save weight or, in my case, turned 180 degrees so to provide a convenient carrying handle when picking it up. There are two Image Stablising modes - effectively for whether you are moving (e.g. on a boat) or your target is. The IS can also be turned off and manual focus used, but I've never had to do this - the autofocus works very quickly and quietly, never needing to 'hunt' for the subject in my experience. Some reviews say you can use this lens with a x1.4 or x2 extender - you can, but you will probably have to tape over the contact pins in the camera as there are issues with the autofocus when the camera detects a f/5.6 lens attached. In addition, you lose a full stop with the x1.4 and two with the x2. Due to the crop factor, bolting this lens to a Canon DSLR such as the 300D or 350D...
