Canon or a Brother ?

Advantages: Good print Quality

...This review is for the Canon Pixma IP4700. Setup --------- This printer comes inside a box which is heavily packaged and first off all you get the power cable. The cable is wrapped with this tie back but the problem is that when you unwind the cable you notice how it wants to try and curl back up again so you do need to try and straighten it out as soon as you can. You receive the disc which has the drivers on which you need to install on the computer otherwise you have no way of printing items off without it. There is nothing else inside the box besides the cartridges which are easy to insert and use. The disc is good because it is so simple to install the items onto the computer and this takes about a minute to do. You do not get a connection to the computer though so you do need to purchase one yourself and many websites...

The Canon PIXMA IP1800 and the end of the world

Advantages: Cheap and replaceable. Attractive and efficient technology.
Disadvantages: Ink costs more than the machine. Potential ecological mayhem.

...My new Canon PIXMA IP1800 replaces my Canon PIXMA IP1600 so the planet may be doomed and It could be my fault. My Canon PIXMA IP1600 had nothing wrong with it. It wasn't broken. The pictures spilled out on glossy paper at A4 ready for framing. The text was crisp and black. I'd had it for a year or so. It was cheap yet efficient and as good as any printer I'd ever owned. It had no tray to catch paper coming out but otherwise was printing perfectly and I've been delighted with it. This is partly why I bought the Canon PIXMA IP1800 which is also excellent. But why bother? They're almost the same machine! The ink is running out on my old printer and, bizarrely, new cartridges would cost more than a brand new one. My wife was furious. She looked at the packets of ink cartridges with a shop assistant because she didn't believe me...

Exceptional Value Printer

Advantages: Quick, automatic duplexing, individual ink tanks, can print direct from cameras

...the pigment based black ink produces better looking text and the dye based inks give better looking photographs. The iP4300 has the ChromaLife100 system, which is where the print head, photo paper and ink work together to help your photos look better and resist fading. By using genuine Canon photo paper and genuine Canon inks together with the printer, the printed photos will resist colour fading for longer. According to Canon the photos printed using this system will resist fading for 100 years if album stored, 30 years if displayed under glass and 10 years if exposed to light and the atmosphere. Obviously I can?t comment on whether this is true or not but it sounds good in principle. Each Canon ink cartridge costs around £10, which seems a lot when there are five to replace, but each cartridge lasts along time and you only need to replace...

...My last printer gave up the ghost just before Xmas so I had to find another at a realistic price. I saw the PIXMA IP4300 on the net but no review, trusting Canon's reputation and a very favourable price I bought it, and no regrets so far. Set up was easy, you just follow a quick start sheet and let the machine set itself up, couldn't be easier. The manual however is in disc form, never my favourite method, but it covers everything you need to know. The printer comes with 5 cartridges, Magenta,cyan, yellow, black and also a large black, you can use compatible cartridges at less than £3, but remember to salvage the chip each time. The printer has a sheet feed, manual feed and a cassette feed which enables you to print on virtually any type of material up to A4 fom 64gm to 273gm. ...were ready for replacing, this is a fairly important factor for me as I tend to replace at least one ink cartridge per week. I decided my new printer was to be a Canon and set about surfing the internet for a decent deal. My new printer, like my old one, would be printing black only 99% of the time but occasionally I like to print a photo out and so it needed to be good in this area also. I must admit I get most of my photo printing done by the professionals now, as there is so much competition and this has brought the prices of printing right down, but sometimes you just want to print one off there and then and so it is nice to have the option available. I found the Canon Pixma IP4600 on a site I have used before a couple of times and one I find to be very good. They are called OYYY.co.uk and they tend to be very competitive on price...

Canon Ip1500

Advantages: cheap ink, fast printing, quiet mode
Disadvantages: If not in quiet mode then it can be quite noisy
