Canon Ixus 100 IS - Small and oh so stylish

...The Canon Ixus 100 IS is the successor to the Ixus 85 IS model, now with 12.1 megapixels instead of the old 10. The 2.5" screen is retained, as is the optical viewfinder and the 3x zoom capability, but the Ixus 100 IS is packed with new features. Canon IXUS 95 IS: The best amateur digital camera on the market

Advantages: Very high quality pictures for both print and web work.
Disadvantages: The bundled software that comes with it has a very Fisherprice feel about it.

...After reading many reviews on Amazon and amateur camera sites about the different types of hobbyist level digital cameras, I decided to buy one of these. The camera itself has a metal casing and so has a sleek feel and look to it. It's very light weight and compact making it very easy to carry around in a handbag or while, (and most importantly) taking pictures! I found that it took only 5 - 10 minutes to get the camera working from out of the box. It was so simple, I didn't take that much notice of the manual. When starting up the camera, it isn't slow like they digital cameras of yesteryear. Its ability to capture anything in an instant is one of it's many advantages. Canon IXUS 990 IS, excellent camera despite the price

Advantages: Photo quality, ease of use, durability
Disadvantages: expensive, useless memory card, slightly bulky

...This is the second Cannon IXUS model that I have purchased and as before I have been impressed. Picture quality is excellent even when using the digital zoom although a stand is recommended, particularly in poor light. One of the things that make these cameras so attractive is the ease of use, along with a range of camera modes which allow even novices to take good photos in range of environments. I have had the camera for almost 2 years now and it still works well with no signs of drop in performance. The cameras look is stylish with no visible signs of scratches despite its frequent use. The only drawbacks are the cost which is still relatively expensive compared with other models currently out there with the same specification and the size which is quite chunky. ...This is a smart little APS camera (Advanced Photo System) this basically means that you can take different size photographs. The way it works is you have to change the size by sliding a switch to the desired size such as (P) Panoramic, (C) Classic or (H) H print which is in between. After you do this you can see the new size through the viewfinder. A useful tip is that the clever APS film allows for you to choose at the time of printing what size you would like your prints to be. For example if you have taken many different sized pictures you may want to print them the classic (6x4 inch) size which would be cheaper than panoramic prints. Also if you have taken a picture the classic size you can still print that picture panoramic and get extra details that you would not see if printed classic size. Advantages: Nice little pocket camera with all the necessary features

Your next camera

Advantages: Small, light, easy to use, nice features
Disadvantages: APS developing is expensive

...a small CR2 battery and so doesn’t add that much to the carrying weight. The camera (I bought the “photo-kit”) comes complete with a 25-frame film, battery and carrying case. In fact, everything you need to get it up and taking photos immediately. Another thing – having just taken possession of my first set of pictures, I have to say that I don’t think the image quality is as good as 35mm cameras. Now, that’s not to say that it’s poor because it isn’t (I was perhaps over critical when studying the photos and comparing them to older shots I had taken, and this was my first time using this camera), but I feel that my old 35mm Kodak compact (RIP) would have taken slightly better pictures, although it had nowhere near the amount of features that the Canon has. ...Great Compact, Stylish with a good set of features. I bought this camera about 2 years ago and have never regretted speding teh approx £230 for it. At the time that was a great price online but I'm sure you can get other better models in the Ixus range for cheaper now. I've managed to combine it's use from holiday snaps abroad to trying some more creative amateur shots. It has a great deal of functions including some which you won't find in some of it's rivals. E.g. the wide angle lens allows you to shoot in widescreen shots, particularly useful for group shots or landscapes. You can also use colour select mode which allows you to shoot a picture with only one colour showing up e.g. good for capturing flowers etc. Colour replace allows you to replace colours. This allows you to get creative with just a small amount of skill...

Ixus 110 - a great point and shoot camera but nothing more.

Advantages: Range of features, quality of pictures in night time mode.
Disadvantages: Quality of pictures in cloudy weather and low light,

The features *The 12 megapixel sensor produces crisp shots in most situations, but suffers slightly in low light conditions or cloudy landscapes. Most compacts however suffer from this to some extent. The 18 possible scene modes are also very useful. When you want to blur the background of a portrait shot or make fireworks that little bit more vivid the various scene modes prove invaluable. I also found selecting the appropriate scene when the camera struggled to take a particular photo, for example in low light and certain landscapes, helped improve the shot dramatically. *The anti blur feature is one of the biggest let downs with the Ixus...

The best camera I have ever used

Advantages: Size, portability
Disadvantages: Too easy to forget to change format of photos back

..... Then when I got the IXUS, this was a thing of the past.....No more fiddling with film- you just drop in right in.And all used film has a clear marking as do the undeveloped rolls..... In fact the only disadvantage I have found is that when I change the format of the photo to 'panoramic' it is easy to forget to change it back, which I have done on a couple occasions....However, this is very obviously my falut and not the camera, but a clearer indication might no go amiss!!...
