The excellent Canon MV20

Advantages: Small, light and feature packed
Disadvantages: Could do with a connection for an exterior mic.

...After a long trawl looking for a Mini DV Camcorder I eventually settled on the Canon MV X330i it had all the features I was looking for. I found it relatively easy to use after studying the manual, (have camera ready to use when reading its easier to follow) although navigating the menu can be a bit fiddly,this is displayed on the screen and when not in use through the viewfinder, some features can only be accessed with the screen open ie setting and using the fader (6) different effects, (which I use regularly) The viewfinder I think would be greatly improved with the addition of a soft eyecup (to reduce light pollution) instead of the hard eyepiece it comes with, so i found it easier to use the screen The 2.5" screen is a joy to use with crystal clear resolution in daylight or night, the camera produces excelent...

Canon MVX200i - My choice of camcorder!

...I looked long and hard before buying a camcorder ? I wanted to find a balance between price and image quality. My first choices were the Panasonic NVGS120 ? 3ccd at under £450, and the tiny Canon MVX20i and 25i. Both, I am sure, would have given a better picture quality, but the Panasonic had awful picture stabilisation and I just couldn?t hold it steady, while the canon 20/25i ran at least £600 ? a little more than I would chose to spend! Cameras are available for just over £100, but you just could not expect a really good quality picture for that price. Which all led me to the Canon MVX200i. The MVX200i is the bottom model of 3 options ? the 200i, the 200 and the 250i. All are basically the same (ie the same lens, casing etc) but the more you pay the more you get. ...As part of my job I have to give presentations - something I fear and loathe. I lack the ability to exude confidence and I felt that this would hamper my progress. As an idea a colleague suggested that I borrow his digital camcorder - film myself giving a presentation and then work back through it looking at areas of my body language - speech and display that could be tweaked and improved. Being desperate I took him up on the challenge and borrowed his Canon MV 960 - I understand that when he bought it the retail price was £365 but when I finally came to purchasing my own after being dazzled I found it much cheaper at £265 from the Pixmania website. Although I didn't do the filming on the first occasion - obviously I have now had the opportunity to take the camcorder on holiday with me - to family weddings and birthday celebrations...

A slightly less explosive Canon.

Advantages: Typically good Canon images.
Disadvantages: Poor flash and feels a bit flimsy.

...Canon along with Nikon have for years been known as the kings of camera`s but with things changing rapidly in the DSLR market Canon had to think fast. All of Canons recent releases have been at the expensive end of the market and they have been rapidly losing ground to the likes of Nikon and the new kids on the block (Sony). The release of the Canon EOS 1000D in June this year (2008)was an attempt to get back in the entry level market and whilst I think it should have the desired effect I am still not convinced they have done enough to tempt people away from the less expensive Sony option. Many people myself included thought that the new Canon would just be a fresher version of the Canon EOS 400D and the only stand out feature available on this 1000D that the 400 did not offer was a live view, so were Canon trying to pull the wool...
