Canon G10: does most things very well, some things briliantly

Advantages: Picture quality, portability, 5x zoom, RAW shooting, high-res monitor, manual options

...Why buy a Canon G10? For about the same price you could get an SLR with a much bigger sensor. And whilst at 80 ISO the G10 with its 14.7 megapixels actually gives better resolution than Canon?s 1000D SLR, at 400 ISO and above its resolution falls away and noise increases dramatically. But at the SLR?s base price you would not get a 28-140mm (equivalent) zoom; and the G10?s compactness and light weight make it a far more attractive option as a camera that you can take with you everywhere. It does most things very well, and some things brilliantly. The most direct competition in a compact comes from the Panasonic LX3. While not quite matching the LX3?s low light performance the G10?s superior zoom (5x as opposed to 2.5) makes it far more versatile, and at low ISO it has superior, not to say stunning, resolution. Boasting a 48x digital zoom and Progressive scan CCD along with Red/Green/Blue primary colour filter this camera outperforms many cameras costing half as much again. ...I recently recieved a Canon PowerShot SX10 for my birthday, i am very pleased with the quality of this camera. The pictures that it takes are of wonderful quality and you don't have to wait on the delay like alot of those cameras out there. Ever since i recieved the camera i have started selling my pictures, and have actually been making money for pictures that i take when i'm bored simply because the quality of the pictures are so good. This camera is very sleek and stylish and fits in your hands like a camera should. It is very comfortable to use and i is also very lightweight and portable making it easy to move around with and not get tired of holding in your hands. This camera is extremely worth the money and i would definately say that if you are in the market for a new camera then this is the one for you....

I found it relatively easy to use after studying the manual, (have camera ready to use when reading its easier to follow) although navigating the menu can be a bit fiddly,this is displayed on the screen and when not in use through the viewfinder, some features can only be accessed with the screen open ie setting and using the fader (6) different effects, (which I use regularly) The viewfinder I think would be greatly improved with the addition of a soft eyecup (to reduce light pollution) instead of the hard eyepiece it comes with, so i found it easier to use the screen The 2.5" screen is a joy to use with crystal clear resolution in daylight or night, the camera produces excelent...
