Review of Canon EOS 300

Canon 300D

Advantages: Easy to handle, aquaint yourself with and easy to use. Lenses compatible with higher models.
Disadvantages: I can't fault it!

...This camera is an excellent DSLR for any beginner or amatuer. I bought this when Photography was just a hobby, now on a degree course I still find it exceptional. A little more camera to hold on to compared with the 2 newer models, which I personally prefer. As previously stated it is compatible with all canon EF lenses, so if you wish to update in the future you can carry your lenses with you! I personally love my camera and despite being updated twice since my purchase it has held its value wonderfully. Canon offer an endless supply of accessories for their cameras, most reasonably priced for plenty of experimentation and fun. I cannot fault my experience so far with canon. I do not claim to be a prefessional so please read some of the other reviews. I just offer my personal opinion. Canon was leading in this type of camera...

The excellent Canon MV20

Boasting a 48x digital zoom and Progressive scan CCD along with Red/Green/Blue primary colour filter this camera outperforms many cameras costing half as much again. Added to that is its impressive list of features such as the digital effects, photo mode and fold out full colour screen. However, the three things that really impressed me with this particular model were: 1. The patented Optical Image stabiliser. ...After a long trawl looking for a Mini DV Camcorder I eventually settled on the Canon MV X330i it had all the features I was looking for. I found it relatively easy to use after studying the manual, (have camera ready to use when reading its easier to follow) although navigating the menu can be a bit fiddly,this is displayed on the screen and when not in use through the viewfinder, some features can only be accessed with the screen open ie setting and using the fader (6) different effects, (which I use regularly) The viewfinder I think would be greatly improved with the addition of a soft eyecup (to reduce light pollution) instead of the hard eyepiece it comes with, so i found it easier to use the screen The 2.5" screen is a joy to use with crystal clear resolution in daylight or night, the camera produces excelent...

Review of Canon EOS 500D

Canon 75-300mm USM III - A good all-round lens but not perfect

...I have read several positive reviews about the Canon 75-300mm USM III lens but I don't share other people's enthusiasm because it is not nearly as sharp as I would expect from a Canon lens. Of course, compared to the Canon L Series lenses, this is an incredibly inexpensive item and, in its defence, I do find that my Canon EOS 50D, with it's jam-packed 15mp APS-C sensor, is very difficult to marry up with a lense to get the most out of it (unless you are prepared to spend thousands). At the close end of the focal range, the picture is crisp and sharp but unfortunately this tails off quite noticeably as the lens is extended (as does the auto-focus accuracy) and I have even taken to focusing the lens manually when it is at full extent, using the camera's magnified live-view to ensure crisp results. ...This is a good quality product that offers good value for money in the very short term. Although as with most products of this type, the value will deteriorate over time and should be able to get a cheaper version next year. The pictures were taken by myself and are entirely un-editted (i.e. haven't been touched-up in a photo program). Click on the camera icon next to "Canon Powershot A300 - Amazing Value!" to see them. Unfortunately Ciao resizes the images so even their "XXL-View" is a pathetic 1/4 of the actual size. Leave me a message and I might be able to e-mail you a full resolution picture if you want (0.5 - 2 mb each). ------------------------ When I bought this camera from Amazon 2 years ago for £160, I thought it was great value. Now selling for £110 it's even cheaper but still competes well with the competition! If you want a camera with optical zoom, then unfortunately this isn't the one for you...
