Canon or a Brother ?

...This review is for the Canon Pixma IP4700. Setup --------- This printer comes inside a box which is heavily packaged and first off all you get the power cable. The cable is wrapped with this tie back but the problem is that when you unwind the cable you notice how it wants to try and curl back up again so you do need to try and straighten it out as soon as you can. You receive the disc which has the drivers on which you need to install on the computer otherwise you have no way of printing items off without it. There is nothing else inside the box besides the cartridges which are easy to insert and use. The disc is good because it is so simple to install the items onto the computer and this takes about a minute to do. You do not get a connection to the computer though so you do need to purchase one yourself and many websites...

Advantages: Lots of zoom, lots of pixels, sturdy

I already have several of these for my DSLR which is convenient and means any of my cards can be used in both of my cameras. e) HD video capability of 1280x720. This wasn't majorly important but with the memory cards being so cheap then it's a bonus to have the capability of recording video. Quite good when you are on holiday or at a family gathering and want to record some video but don't want the hassle of a separate camcorder. Finally, I took advantage of a Canon promotion which gave £40 cashback on this particular model. I'd already decided on this camera so the cashback was a nice bonus. All in all, it cost £234.55 including delivery from Jessops.com. After a few weeks of use I'm finding that I really like this camera...

A slightly less explosive Canon.

Advantages: Typically good Canon images.
Disadvantages: Poor flash and feels a bit flimsy.

I think the answer mainly lies in the fact that Canon are still very respected in the DSLR world and when they release a new camera people stand up and take note. If you enter a photography or camera store asking for advice on buying your first DSLR camera and there is a new Canon on the shelf you can almost guarantee you will be pointed towards it. There is a simple reason for this and that is that the people working in these stores feel safe offering Canons because they have been around successfully for so long. Times are indeed changing though and I would never recommend this Canon over the Sony A200 or the Nikon D40 for many reasons.
