.... It was ugly in an industrial way but that was a popular style a few years back. It produced pretty good document and photo prints and the scanner was adequate for documents but not of a standard to copy photos. When coming to choose a new printer these were the characteristics I was interested in. It had to print to a high standard, the scanner needed to be better and I didn't want it to look like an ugly lump of corporate kit with attachments falling off all the time. Despite painfully setting up the fax functionality first time round I have never received or sent a fax using the HP, in fact I don't think I've faxed anything this century so that functionality was dispensable. At a snifter under £100 the Canon Pixma MP600 packs a lot of quality into an attractively designed package. Ignoring any pointless fax functionality it concentrates... Read review

...My new Canon PIXMA IP1800 replaces my Canon PIXMA IP1600 so the planet may be doomed and It could be my fault. My Canon PIXMA IP1600 had nothing wrong with it. It wasn't broken. The pictures spilled out on glossy paper at A4 ready for framing. The text was crisp and black. I'd had it for a year or so. It was cheap yet efficient and as good as any printer I'd ever owned. It had no tray to catch paper coming out but otherwise was printing perfectly and I've been delighted with it. This is partly why I bought the Canon PIXMA IP1800 which is also excellent. But why bother? They're almost the same machine! The ink is running out on my old printer and, bizarrely, new cartridges would cost more than a brand new one. My wife was furious. She looked at the packets of ink cartridges with a shop assistant because she didn't believe me... Read review

...I've had one of these PIXMA IP8500 photo printers now for just over a year and I won't be upgrading for several years to come. My opinion: This machine rocks! features: 8 replacable individual colour inks 4x6 photos (borderless) printed in under 25 seconds In built duplexor Prints directly onto CD's and DVD's Prints bourerless up to A4 size 2 pictoliter ink drops (very fine printing) PictBridge Direct compatible USB 2.0 My real opinion If your the type (like me) that either prints a lot of photos or just likes to be able to print photos on demand then definitely give this printer some consideration. ...The Pixma MP600 is a very versatile printer: It really is a multi purpose printer, giving you plenty of useful functions. The Operation Panel, which is found at the front of the printer and has a small 6.3cm TFT screen, enables you to quickly see what task you want to tackle and has an easy - scroll wheel which takes you from one action to the next ie. scan, print, maintenance etc. It opens with a home screen and as you turn the wheel, moves you into the next mode. Select Memory Card and the mode screen appears. When selecting the mode and pressing the function button, the instructions for the selected mode are displayed. Copying: Load the page you wish to copy, select copy on the home screen (make sure the paper is loaded) - you can specify the page size, media type and any other settings you need to set up... ...Just think for a second and ask yourself a question. How would it be to have a scanner, printer and photocopy machine in one device? I had like this about year ago and it is not comfortable. You occupy only USB ports, have more cables behind and less room for anything on a desk. Cannon came across with Pixma mp460. This quite medium sizes device is brilliant and quality breath taking. Printed a number of pictures with it on an Ilford glossy photo paper and could not believe that they look so great. Printed previously some pictures from Snappy Snaps and there was absolutely no difference. First what I can truly tell is that all information's I give you come from my experience only. ...for a special photographic print head as had been used with some other Canon printers. All in all, if you do not mind the rather ugly appearance of the Canon Pixma MP110, for the price it is an excellent all-in-one printer for the home or small office. It uses some of the cheapest ink cartridges around and prints good quality documents and photographs. The scanning and copier functions are quick and simple to use. The Canon MP110 is a very practical, cost effective and functional all-in-one, albeit a bit of an ugly duckling.... Read review

I have had many printers over the years and mostly have used them to print documents and photos. Some of them have been 4 ink printers with a lack of color space for photo realism, others have been 6 ink printers that become far too expensive to run for document printing and also they output grayish text. Ink cartridges generally cost between £8-£10 each - but note that, at the time of writing, there are no compatibles out there for this machine. Set up was fairly easy - it comes with a step by step guide, although it may be worthwhile reading it through once before starting. The first thing that impressed me was the printhead alignment - on my previous printers, you print out a sheet of paper then you have to go through some routine of choosing which blocks of colour are best. This printer does all that by itself, automatically. Very cool.
