Canon PowerShot G10 review

Advantages: autofocus, big screen, face detection, 14,7 megapixel, image processor, image stabilisation
Disadvantages: chunky, not very stylish, not as portable as other cameras

...I recently bought one of these at an expensive price. I shall explain some features and my feedback to this item below. The 14.7-megapixel G10 replaces the PowerShot G9 at the top end of the clever compact space. It's a chunky beast of a camera, as you'll see in your pictures, but still smaller than a dSLR with comparable power and flexibity. The G-series are designed to be the back-up cameras you can keep in your pocket if you don't want to bust out the dSLR, and the G10 certainly packs a lot into its relatively compact frame. The G10 includes all the whistles, bells and accordions you'd expect: optical image stabilisation, face detection and various scene and colour modes. Canon Powershot SX200 IS

Advantages: Lots of zoom, lots of pixels, sturdy
Disadvantages: No internal memory, flash pops up whether you want it to or not

...I bought this camera recently as I purchased a Canon EOS1000D DSLR and I wanted a compact digital with a large zoom for the times when I didn't feel like lugging the DSLR and all it's accessories around with me. I'd looked around at other models, and I know that there are many other cameras that offer a much higher zoom, but I finally settled on this one for a number of reasons. a) 12 million pixels. This is more than I'll probably ever need as it's very rare that I print anything above 8x10 but it was an upgrade on my previous digital compact. b) 12x optical zoom. Canon G10: does most things very well, some things briliantly

Advantages: Picture quality, portability, 5x zoom, RAW shooting, high-res monitor, manual options
Disadvantages: Noise at higher ISO

...Why buy a Canon G10? For about the same price you could get an SLR with a much bigger sensor. And whilst at 80 ISO the G10 with its 14.7 megapixels actually gives better resolution than Canon?s 1000D SLR, at 400 ISO and above its resolution falls away and noise increases dramatically. But at the SLR?s base price you would not get a 28-140mm (equivalent) zoom; and the G10?s compactness and light weight make it a far more attractive option as a camera that you can take with you everywhere. It does most things very well, and some things brilliantly. The most direct competition in a compact comes from the Panasonic LX3. While not quite matching the LX3?s low light performance the G10?s superior zoom (5x as opposed to 2.5) makes it far more versatile, and at low ISO it has superior, not to say stunning, resolution. Yes, I Love Canon Powershot A480 !

Advantages: small, light, great pictures, easy to use, attractive, super cheap
Disadvantages: low battery power, lens-error

Canon Powershot - Above Average

Advantages: Nice for a small camera, Good settings, Nice overall camera
Disadvantages: Noise @ Low light, Batterys recognised as empty

..., the powershot is very easy to use, its nice to hold and your hand is positioned well for all types of use, the screen is clear and a non digital viewfinder makes it very nice to use although this is not as accurate as you would expect, it has a button on the front which seems a bit out of place but im pretty sure its supposed to evaluate white balance, This camera hasn't been advertised as a very durable camera or a waterproof one, but a few light splashes of rain didn't do it any harm and it has held together after a few bumps, it does show paint scratches though, its case is a hard plastic and is quite seamless, Canon have done a good job at designing this camera, it boasts as a camera that is compact enough for a pocket and also has the usability of a bridge camera, the small bump on the left gives you great grip and gives space for two AA...

Advantages: Good quality, easy to use, versatile, gives excellent results, robust
Disadvantages: Mode dial on rear can be easy to accidentally move

...More than enough features for most photographers, fairly compact and easy to use. I've used mine regularly, mainly for work, it's never let me down once and always gives excellent results. When recently photographing a wedding, I had no hesitation in using the G6 as my back-up camera. It's light, and though slightly on the bulky side, it will fit into a pocket, which is more than you can say for a Nikon D2. It's quite well made, the main part of the body being fairly robust aluminium. Mine was put to the test when my wife fell over in New York, breaking her arm. The G6 took a hefty belt on the pavement, and now sports a dent, but on replacing the batteries, it worked perfectly, which is more than can be said for the wife's arm. The only tiny criticism is the location of the mode dial on the rear, which is fairly easy to accidentally...

...Design The Canon Powershot SX110 IS is a pretty big camera compared to some on the market. It is around 11cm by 7cm and feels quite large in your hands, although this does make it feel sturdy and strongly built. Despite the size, it fits into your hands rather smoothly and is fairly comfortable to hold. It weighs in at around 300g which is quite heavy but once again makes it feel strong. It is too large to keep it comfortably in your pocket and so the wrist strap comes in handy. (A neck strap would be a nice addition though). I was told you can also purchase a pouch for it to clip on to your belt. You can get to the buttons, pop up flash light and battery space easily and they are all well made and strong. The battery space holds two AA battery's and they are easy to change compared to some cameras which are fiddly or the battery...

G9 Canon's greatest compact yet

Advantages: RAW, large screen, picture quality, ease of use

The picture quality (OK it's got 12.1 megapixels and I can print low noise images up to A0 from this pocket sized powerhouse) is incredible. The latest addition to the Canon compcat G series now has RAW. RAW captures the image without allowing the camera's computer to process and decide on light temperatures etc. It creates the opportunity to make huge changes to the post prodcution image and is no longer the preserve of professional photographers. Still - you might just want to point and shoot - then set it to fully automatic and you wont even have to decide when to use a flash or not - the camera will do it all for you. Advantages: Quality, Quality, Quality !

...This replaced an old Nikon Coolpix and was a quantum leap in both quality of build and features. The G9 has a solid feel about it and felt comfortable in the hand. The 3" LCD screen was remarkable in the quality of the display and made taking pictures a lot easier than most other compact cameras. I use the viewfinder more from habit and found it was clear (maybe a touch small). The controls were close at hand and easy to use. The time lag between pressing the button and picture being visible on LCD screen was very small. The time lag can be critical if you want to capture a moving or changing view. The menu offers a large number of shooting modes which I now use to the full and steer clear of the Auto setting. I resisted using the RAW mode and just dropped the pictures into my Apple "Aperture" software without the need to fire up...
