Canon S5 IS - One of the "top" cameras! My review

Advantages: Easy to use, many functions, quality, ultra-zoom... etc
Disadvantages: It's hard to find in shops, no RAW

Canon Quality

Advantages: Same Canon quality we have come to expect, great ISO capabilities.
Disadvantages: Buttons can get fiddly in the cold.

Advantages: Affordable, excellent functions and easy to use.

Canon S5 IS Digital Camera Excellence

Advantages: Zoom, Image stabiliser, Picture quality, Hot shoe etc. etc
Disadvantages: None

...I have been a pretty keen photographer for many years, the last digital camera I had was a Canon G3, it was only 4 megapixels, but the quality was outstanding, far superior to my mates 8mp Fuji. I went to Silverstone last year for the F1 practice, and got some great action shots of the cars, my only disappointment was the limited optical zoom (3x) on the G3. I decided there and then, that the time was right to upgrade, I had no hesitation in choosing Canon again, and went for the then newly released S5 IS. WOW, this camera is amazing, the zoom,12x optical & 4x digital, giving a total of 48x zoom is exactly what I needed, the optical zoom alone gives a 35mm SLR equivelant of 36-432 mm !!! Canon S9000 - ink it great!

Advantages: Up to A3 (large) print size; Fast; Superb Results
Disadvantages: Small ink tanks

Eventually it was shipped from Germany (the benefit of a pan-European market). There were delays in supply at the time but the price was at least £100 cheaper than the best UK source. Review of Canon S 9000

A slightly less explosive Canon.

Advantages: Typically good Canon images.
Disadvantages: Poor flash and feels a bit flimsy.

...Canon along with Nikon have for years been known as the kings of camera`s but with things changing rapidly in the DSLR market Canon had to think fast. All of Canons recent releases have been at the expensive end of the market and they have been rapidly losing ground to the likes of Nikon and the new kids on the block (Sony). The release of the Canon EOS 1000D in June this year (2008)was an attempt to get back in the entry level market and whilst I think it should have the desired effect I am still not convinced they have done enough to tempt people away from the less expensive Sony option. Many people myself included thought that the new Canon would just be a fresher version of the Canon EOS 400D and the only stand out feature available on this 1000D that the 400 did not offer was a live view, so were Canon trying to pull the wool...

Advantages: Packed full of professional features
Disadvantages: Slow auto-focus

...I have used this camcorder for filming both corporate events and short films and for both it excelled. The camcorder produces excellent broadcast quality images and has full manual control over the image or can be set to full auto for less experienced users. Canon offer a wide range of accessories for the XL1s for the professional filmaker, these include a full manual lens, XLR audio adapter, black and white CRT viewfinder and many more. The camera is easy to use and is fairly lghtweight and portable which makes it ideal for electronic news gathering. The only issue I have with this camera is the slow autofocus speed, however unless you are doing very fast panning shots this is not a problem. In all a very good camcorder from Canon....

Canon Powershot - Above Average

Advantages: Nice for a small camera, Good settings, Nice overall camera
Disadvantages: Noise @ Low light, Batterys recognised as empty

..., the powershot is very easy to use, its nice to hold and your hand is positioned well for all types of use, the screen is clear and a non digital viewfinder makes it very nice to use although this is not as accurate as you would expect, it has a button on the front which seems a bit out of place but im pretty sure its supposed to evaluate white balance, This camera hasn't been advertised as a very durable camera or a waterproof one, but a few light splashes of rain didn't do it any harm and it has held together after a few bumps, it does show paint scratches though, its case is a hard plastic and is quite seamless, Canon have done a good job at designing this camera, it boasts as a camera that is compact enough for a pocket and also has the usability of a bridge camera, the small bump on the left gives you great grip and gives space for two AA...
