Canon shot up a notch in my books

Reduced in a sale, the Canon Selphy CP600 cost me £60, and it was definitely £60 well spent. On my daughters birthday I got to take over and try the thing out, and it was very good. The Canon is designed to print photos up to 4 by 8 inches, and the speed of print was brilliant, about 70 seconds for a 4 by 6 inch borderless photo. In addition to offering good speed, it prints good looking output and comes with a rechargeable battery for full portability. So of course I had to steal it and take it to work (as I do with all my children's gadgets) to have a good little play so I charge up the battery (it takes roughly 2hr 30mins to charge from flat) and I took along...

Fine pictures

Advantages: Fine pictures!
Disadvantages: Cheaper alternatives

.... Dye sublimation creates really photographic pics though darker pictures can reduce this effect. Can be connected to your pc with the USB 2.0 cable which Canon provide. I would wait until the price dropped on this one or go for earier Selphy's which have the same picture quality at a cheaper price....

...What a great printer! I bought one 12 months ago for my Canon Ixus digital camera (although this printer works with any "PictBridge" compatible camera) and haven't looked back. I'm sure if I added up the price of the printer and the paper/ink packs then it would take a very long time before I started saving money not using photo labs, but it's good fun to use and handy being able to print photos whenever you want (e.g. if a relative comes round and wants a copy). The printer is a real no-brainer to use with a PictBridge-compatible camera - just plug the camera into it and press the "print" button (it can also be plugged into a PC and used like a conventional printer). Canon or a Brother ?

...This review is for the Canon Pixma IP4700. Setup --------- This printer comes inside a box which is heavily packaged and first off all you get the power cable. The cable is wrapped with this tie back but the problem is that when you unwind the cable you notice how it wants to try and curl back up again so you do need to try and straighten it out as soon as you can. You receive the disc which has the drivers on which you need to install on the computer otherwise you have no way of printing items off without it. There is nothing else inside the box besides the cartridges which are easy to insert and use. The disc is good because it is so simple to install the items onto the computer and this takes about a minute to do. You do not get a connection to the computer though so you do need to purchase one yourself and many websites...

Yamaha CP300 Stage PIano

Advantages: reasonable price, reasonable sound, portable, built-in amplification & speakers, USB port
Disadvantages: no music rest supplied, a few dodgy-sounding notes around D4

...a Yamaha P-150 instead. Although this one didn't sound as good as the PR900 it only made the sounds it was supposed to make. Accordingly I lived with it for 12 years until earlier this year when an upgrade seemed due. As a result I now have a Yamaha CP300 and am, on the whole, delighted. I am pleased because, while still not a patch on the Technics PR900*, the CP300 'sings' a lot more than previous Yamaha pianos. And, of course, being a Yamaha, it is very well-mannered. There are no strange electrical noises to worry about. CP300 is also a fine MIDI/XG tone generator and much more capable than the P-150. The only major gripe I have is that CP300 does not come supplied with a music rest. You have to purchase that as 'an accessory' for about £30. As you'd expect, none of the music stores I tried had one in stock. It had to be ordered direct...

Review of Yamaha CP300

A slightly less explosive Canon.

Advantages: Typically good Canon images.
Disadvantages: Poor flash and feels a bit flimsy.

...Canon along with Nikon have for years been known as the kings of camera`s but with things changing rapidly in the DSLR market Canon had to think fast. All of Canons recent releases have been at the expensive end of the market and they have been rapidly losing ground to the likes of Nikon and the new kids on the block (Sony). The release of the Canon EOS 1000D in June this year (2008)was an attempt to get back in the entry level market and whilst I think it should have the desired effect I am still not convinced they have done enough to tempt people away from the less expensive Sony option. Many people myself included thought that the new Canon would just be a fresher version of the Canon EOS 400D and the only stand out feature available on this 1000D that the 400 did not offer was a live view, so were Canon trying to pull the wool...

Canon Powershot SX200 IS

Advantages: Lots of zoom, lots of pixels, sturdy
Disadvantages: No internal memory, flash pops up whether you want it to or not

...I bought this camera recently as I purchased a Canon EOS1000D DSLR and I wanted a compact digital with a large zoom for the times when I didn't feel like lugging the DSLR and all it's accessories around with me. I'd looked around at other models, and I know that there are many other cameras that offer a much higher zoom, but I finally settled on this one for a number of reasons. a) 12 million pixels. This is more than I'll probably ever need as it's very rare that I print anything above 8x10 but it was an upgrade on my previous digital compact. b) 12x optical zoom. This is more than adequate for general photography, any more and I think you do probably need a tripod. c) NB-5L Li-Ion Battery. ...This is a good quality product that offers good value for money in the very short term. Although as with most electronic products, the value will deteriorate over time and should be able to get a cheaper version next year.
