CanoScan LiDE 100 - I Love My LiDE
Advantages: Fabulous quality for scanned documents, both colour and B&W
Disadvantages: Somewhat slow when scanning at highest resolutions
...I bought my CanoScan Lide100 for home use earlier this year (2009) after having used the CanoScan Lide 25 at work for 3 years or so. Having used it for several months now, I thought it was time I shared my views on how it fares as a flatbed scanner. Anyone who really knows me will know that I'm obsessed with taking photos and have 1000s of digital photos stored online and I really wanted to scan in my old photos pre-digital era and wanted a decent scanner mainly for this reason.
WHAT IS IT?
The LiDE is a lightweight flatbed scanner, i.e. a device that can optically scan text or images when the original document is placed on the glass platen. If you?ve never used a scanner before, imagine photocopying a sheet of paper or photo but instead of the photocopy coming out on a physical sheet of paper, it comes up on your PC as...

CanoScan - great quality scans at the touch of a button
Advantages: Quick, easy to use, quiet, great quality scans
Disadvantages: Fairly expensive
...The Canon CanoScan is a great all-round flatbed scanner. It is a good size (25cm x 36cm x 4cm) to enable all regular scanning, whilst not taking up unnecessary desk space. It has a resolution of 4800dpi x 4800 dpi, which results in great quality scans, of both black and white or colour documents/images.
Whilst I have been rather let down by other scanners, this one is really easy to use and gives fantastic results. It is easy to scan in regular sheets/photos, but the lid also allows you to scan notebooks etc. Although other scanners I have used have allowed you to do this, the results have not been so good; often having the lid slightly ajar results in bleached patches of the scanned document, due to light getting in. However, I have personally not suffered any problems like that with this scanner.
When scanning documents, text comes...

Can CanoScan scan for Canon?
Advantages: Small, slim, light and practical
Disadvantages: No slide copier
...Canon CanoScan
The Canon CanoScan LIDE 60 is one of my most recent buys.
It has a very hard act to follow in my study - an HP Scanjet 6300 which I reviewed some time ago.
Buying
The HP decided to die on me, just when I needed it in connection with a funeral!
I needed to scan a photo for an order of service in full colour, and the HP was lifeless.
A quick trip to PCW was my only hope, and faced me with a dilemma. Would I go top of the range - my normal approach - or get by with something cheapish.
The latter was the option which led me to the Canon. At under £50 it seemed to offer all I really needed, and did the job perfectly once I got it home.
Appearances.
This is a wonderfully light, slim model - and sits on its edge on the desktop if need be.
26 cms by 38 cms by 4 cms deep is all...

The CanoScan Can
Advantages: No Power Supply, Slimline, High Resolution
Disadvantages: Slow
...that didn't need a mains power supply.
A trip to the local Currys revealed that I had basically two choices. Both of them Canon scanners, both ultra-thin (barely 1 inch thick!) and capable of being stood on one edge, and both of them taking their power from the USB port. The two models in question were the canoscan 676u and the canoscan 1240u. With a difference of only £20 between them I opted for the one with the higher model number, safe in the knowledge that it must have a better specification if it had a bigger number in it's name!
Speaking of the specification it boasts the following:
- 1200 x 2400 dpi resolution
- 48bit internal colour depth
- 3 one-touch buttons for easy operation
- upright scan function
- z-lid capable of dealing with thick books (yeah, right!)
- usb interface (which also supplies the power...

Canoscan for ME
Advantages: Cheap,tiny footprint,lightweight,excellent performance
Disadvantages: none really
...When I built my new computer I installed Windows ME and one casualty of this was my old scanner which being old and cheap was no longer supported on the manufacturers web site. So I approached replacing the scanner with some trepidation as I saw a number of horror stories regarding compatibility with ME.
After reading positive reviews, postings in news groups and visiting various stores I decided to go for the Canoscan N650U and in my opinion it is certainly one of the best scanners around for the home or small business user.
The scanner combines sleek slim supermodel looks with excellent performance and a price tag that is far to low for a product of this quality, The price at most Internet retailers is around £65 and the high street price is currently only around £69.
The N650u is much smaller than the other scanners that I...

Canon Canoscan 8600F review
Advantages: Nice and fast for reflective scanning, good result from film at larger sizes.
Disadvantages: Not good enough for large prints of scanned 35mm film.
...The canon Canoscan 8600F are best suited for reflective scanning and film of greater size that 35mm.
For large format and medium format film it is quite good actually and should allow you to make large print from your scan.
Images are a tad soft straight from the scanner but respond well to USM sharpening.
For regular 35mm film scans will be good for smaller prints and work just fine if your main goal is to use your images for web use and digital albums.
Film holders for most formats are included.
Silverfast LE scanner software included and gives you more control over scan quality
If I sum up:
The 8600F is not up to the discontinued Canon 9950F or the new Epson V700 but it is also a great bit cheaper and Nice for its price!
Anyhow if your plans are to produce high quality gallery prints, the I suggest that you shop...

Canoscan 650U - A real Winner
Advantages: Speed, size, no power cable and quality
Disadvantages: None really
...When My last scanner took 15 minutes to scan an image in low res, and then crashed my computer, I knew that it was time to get a new one. So I looked hard at all the possibilities.
As my last scanner (A very large UMAX 1200u)had been free when I bought my Bondi-Blue iMac so many years ago (well a little over two...), I had never really looked into the Scanner Market before, but there seemed to be only one real choice - The CanoScan 650u.
It has:
1200x600 resolution - more than enough for photocopying and scanning for the web - in fact, only Graphics pros will really see the difference between it and one costing 10 times the price.
USB powered - only one cable!
Tiny - We are talking only the size of a small A4 Pad of paper!
Z-Lid - Enables the lid to lift up, but stay horizontal for scanning books.
Really cheap...

canoscan - can u scan?
Advantages: very well styled, small, good software, quick.
Disadvantages: not 5 star quality scans, ocr software only trial basis.
...I was rcently in the market for a flatbed scanner and stumbled across a review in a magazine. Although the canoscan wasn't the best model on test for the money, it did well enough to interest me. (gaining a score of 71%)
The canoscan looks great and is only a third of the size of a standard flatbed. (even the most expensive ones)
It looks great, and is styled really well.
The quality of scanning is good (not 5 star, but good enough for the home/internet user) witha max resolution of 600x1200 dpi, in 32 bit.
Its also very quick, taking only 10 seconds to fully scan a photograph.
It comes with some good software (including ulead photo express) and the whole package is easy to use.
It also comes with a trial piece of OCR software (software which scans text and converts it into an editable format for your word processing program) As...

Canon CanoScan USB 3200F
Advantages: Lightweight, Good range of software included
Disadvantages: Non-detachable lid, Some driver quirks
...The CanoScan 3200F offer good performance at a price that is not too bad. It comes with it's own software as well as with all the cables that are needed, mainly the USB and power adaptor. There is also a photo plate for scanning in photos.
Setup is fairly simple, you just plug in the scanner, turn on your computer and then install the software. Canon are generous in that they give you not only the driver but also their own scanning application, Manual CanoScan. You also get the standard Edition of the popular and best-selling OCR/Scanning software, ScanSoft Omnipage, as well as a toolbox application that allows you to carry out basic functions from a little palatte windows in the corner of your screen.
The scanner itself is lightweight and slightly larger than a sheet of A4 paper. There are four buttons on the front which...
