Advantages: They will give you a credit card if no one else will!
Disadvantages: Bad Customer service/Very high APR

...The Capital One Credit Card is the only company that I could find who would give me one! A few of us in our younger days did a little bit of damage to out credit, Capital one has offered me a £200 credit limit, I have to pay £1.66 each month just to have the card and the APR is 29.7%! So unless you are sure you can be responsible with a credit card, i would leave it well alone orr you could get in to a terrible circle with it. I have had the card 3 months, The service I have recieved has not be very good, whether this is because they know I cant get a credit card anywhere else? I had to wait for 1 month to get my card delievered, The first one did not turn up, as well as not getting a first statement. As I did not get a statement I did not know when I had to pay my bill. Vanquis Bank and Credit Card

Advantages: Gives credit to those who wouldn't otherwise get it.
Disadvantages: Very high interest, terrible customer service.

...A couple of months ago we made the mistake of getting a credit card "for emergencies", it was meant to be...but as always happens, it was used when it wasn't necessary (mainly by my husband!!!!). Vanquis Bank are a company who offers credit to people with a bad credit history (i.e. CCJs, missed payments etc and just no credit history). Anybody who has ever tried to get credit for the first time will know its sometimes very difficult, if you have never had any kind of credit given to you, companies won't take you on, as they don't know if your a risk or not...and so Vanquis offer a "credit score boosting card"...basically they give a credit card with £300 limit on it to people who have never before had a credit card and probably don't know how to use them correctly. (Before you start...I'm not calling everyone with no credit history...

Vanquis Credit Card

Advantages: Convenient, Accessible to those with poor credit rating
Disadvantages: High interest rate and heavy debt collecting if you default

...the interest for cash withdrawals is higher and subject to a cash handling fee. The other disadvantage with the card is that there is an annual fee, currently £30 payable on your first statement and every year after that. Late fees and overlimit fees also come in at £30 each. The application process is very simple, just give them a call and you only need to answer a few questions. If accepted a credit agreement will be sent to you in the post. As with most other credit cards, there is a telephone number you can call to get your balance, credit limit, recent transactions, last payment etc, and also to speak to an advisor. Vanquis are generally very friendly, that is, until you miss a payment. I missed one payment, purely because I forgot to pay it, and ended up receiving multiple phone calls (7 in one day!) from them chasing...

Capital One Credit Card

Advantages: Interst free credit so long as bills are paid on time, Reliable, Provide credit to nearly anyone
Disadvantages: High interest rate, £18 start up fee

...For those of us who have a poor credit rating for whatever reason, Capital One offers a Premium Card with a low credit limit. The annual fee of £18 in my opinion is a bit steep but they offer interest free credit so long as you pay your monthly bill on time. Failure to pay your bill results in a high interest rate being applied to your account. My credit limit was £400 when I joined last year and so far I have had no problems with them whatsoever. At intervals throughout the year they offer special prices on various goods and holidays. At Christmas I managed to get a Nokia 3210 on BT Cellnet pay as you go for £49.99 when in the shops they were selling at £70. All in all I would recommend Capital One for people who would have no problem settling their monthly bill....

A Great 'DEAL' On A Credit Card

Advantages: Clubcard points
Disadvantages: Interest rate which kicks in if you don't pay the full balance monthly

The card offers 1 point for every £4 spent, in addition to any points you get for being in Tesco, thus if you spend £4 in Sainsburys you get 1 point, but spend the same in a Tesco store and you'll get 5 points - one for spending £4 on your card, and then 1 point per £ for being in Tesco. Now no-one if ever going to get that rich on Clubcard points (although they do go for an astonishing price on eBay every now and gain) but since they're essentially free money, they're not to be sneered at. Advantages: Earn extra Tesco clubcard points.

...About 18 months ago I was looking to change my credit card to one which offers cash back as a way of getting a little bit extra. After looking at several different cards I decided on the Tesco Clubcard Credit Card. Where I live the only supermarket in town is Tesco and the closest petrol station is at the Tesco supermarket. This means that I do all of my grocery shopping and get my fuel from Tesco's. The Tesco Clubcard Credit Card does not offer cashback but awards Tesco Clubcard Points; you get 5 points for every £4 spent with Tesco, in addition to your points for your purchase and 1 point for every £4 none Tesco Purchase. Some advice on the usage of credit cards.

Advantages: Can be worth while...
Disadvantages: ...but usually isn't

...I've just recently started working as part of a collections team for a bank, making collections on missing credit card payments and other payments to do with credit cards (over-limit charges, late fees, arrears). Previous to start the job I didn't know all that much about credit cards, I knew my mother had one, or two store based ones with some reward schemes that she paid off the whole balance at the end of every month, only spending 30 or so on. To me that seemed really simple, she had a limit, she knew what she spent she paid it off at the end of every month in case she wanted to use it again and as far as I was concerned this was how credit cards worked. Turns out not everyone uses them like this, to protect my job I won't mention the bank I currently work for, though they are a big British bank. It would seem the bank in question...

REBUILD YOUR CREDIT WITH CAPITAL ONE

Advantages: it's a credit card primarily for those people that can't get one elsewhere
Disadvantages: £18 annual fee and 29.9% interest rate

We have had several mailings come through the post from Capital One, for both of my sons who had rather shot themselves in the foot with injudicious use (to put it mildly) of their first credit cards. Fine so they were both 18, had a bit of money to spend, but they both looked upon the credit limits given to them by their Miidland Bank mastercard as a 'bonus'. They forgot that once they'd used it - they had to pay it back. One of them has since had a loan turned down by his bank - not because he is in really dire financial strats, but because he ran his c/c up to its limit within 2 weeks of getting it and there it has stayed. Handy Card! (Abbey Zero Credit Card)

Advantages: Zero fees
Disadvantages: High interest, only 3 months free on purchases

...Downsides On opening a credit card, I have come to expect a lengthy period of 0% interest on purchases, I find the 3 months offered not to be very competitive, especially compared to the 9 months by the Halifax All in One. As with all credit cards, if you do not pay of the full balance, you do risk pay a hefty interest, which can dampen all the previous benefits mentioned, and at currently 18.9% APR, this card is no exception. The service Thus far I have had no problems with this card, receiving statements on a regular basis (even if the statements are slightly inconvenient, in many parts..). Overall, in my opinion, if you can get this card, I believe it is a very handy addition!...

...Overview ------------ I have had this credit card for around 4 years now. It has always worked perfectly for me. As an avid Tesco fan i trade my points in for deals tokens and enjoy a treat every year. Incentives ------------- 1 point for every £1 spent in Tesco. 1 point for every £4 spent elsewhere. But dont forget with deals tokens you can get 4x the value of your points. These tokens can be used for restaurants, trips, hotels, days out ect. Theres hundreds of activities to choose from and they change some every 3 months.
