...As someone who has never needed to use a credit card until two years ago, I had never given much thought to applying for one until as a consequence of my job I have to travel a lot. I had always subscribed to the fact that if you didn't have enough money to pay for something then you couldn't afford it. (My fathers saying!!) So imagine my surprise when I applied to a few credit card companies and had my application declined. When you get a decision from a credit card company that has declined your application they give you the address of the credit reference agency they use. So I duly sent of my £5 and requested my credit report. Which had absoloutely nothing on it, apart from the last 3 addresses I had lived at. I just couldn't understand how if I had never had any credit problems how I was being refused credit. Well...

...My experience with Capital One has been really good till now. I did not have a credit card and no credit score/rating in UK to assist me to fetch one. Not The One For Everyone

The application was very easy, maybe a bit too easy, but within 5 minutes I was done and had my decision, a YES from Capital One. It then advised I would receive a credit agreement in the post and then my card in a further 7-10 days. Excellent. Within 3 days, the agreement came and this is where I noticed that things weren't quite all they seemed. For a start, I didn't want purchase protection at 79p per £100, the box I had been careful to say I didn't want it online, had been ticked by Capital One and so had the £18 annual card protection policy. I crossed them out in pen and wrote not required on the agreement. Then I noticed that the 'typical' APR wasn't the 15.9% promised rate, it was actually 18.9% and a close...

Endsleigh on line Travel Insurance

Advantages: Cheaper on line Insurance no middleman

...I search the Internet a few weeks ago for on line travel insurance because I was on a business trip to Europe... I looked at at least half a dozen companies but www.endsleigh.co.uk came up trumps with comprehensive cover in Europe for 6 days at around £16...not bad at all considering all their ' extras' a policy worth paying for.. two weeks ago upon my return fromEurope I booked a flight to Florida with BA and decided to give Endsleigh an other chance for a quote..for 18 Days insurance Worldwide on a fully Comprehensive basis the price was £45 excllent really, considering the inferior insurance offered by some travel comapnies at nearly twice the price....it really does pay to shop around... I realise that I could have paid for an annual policy but I preferred to go for this one off World Wide Policy... I have no idea what...

...I have had a Capital One card for over 4 years and have always paid on time, kept within all the limits....what I consider to be a good customer. I chose Capital One because I couldn't get a credit card elsewhere and thought I would build my credit rating through it, which I did. Today I decided to give their customer services a ring and see if I could change to a lower rate of interest from the extortionate 30%. I have a credit limit of £1500 which has increased from the measley £200 I had to start with so I thought they must value my custome. Their customer services had the attitude 'if you don't wan to pay the rate you can always cut the card up'. I said that I would do that and there was no argument or referral to another staff member....nothing. So, once you have a Capital One card, you can like it or lump it! I'm off to get...

...Direct Travel Insurance - Avoid! My wife, Jill, was diagnosed with breast cancer on August 29, 2008. We had our holiday booked for September 8 so I asked Direct Travel Insurance for a claim form. The form arrived from AIG around September 3. AIG are the company Direct Travel Use to process their claims. It had four pages of A4. Three to be filled in by me and one by Jill's doctor. OK so far. After lot's of ink and £25 for the doctor, I returned the forms a couple of days later. The form signed by the doctor stated that Jill had a hospital appointment for the day we were due to fly. Despite this, AIG continued to turn awful into horror. After about three weeks a letter arrived from AIG asking for the tickets. He didn't seek medical assistance because it is so expensive in America and it really spoiled his holiday. Compared to some he was lucky. A heart attack in the USA could set you back tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in treatment costs. If you're too young to think about heart attacks, how about a car accident? If you go on a package they'll insist you have insurance and you can just take their standard package. This is adequate for most people, but it's not a cheap option. REBUILD YOUR CREDIT WITH CAPITAL ONE

Advantages: it's a credit card primarily for those people that can't get one elsewhere
