An enjoyable, insightful read

Slight caricature?

...?All human life is there? ? that was the motto of a certain recently demised national newspaper, based in Wapping. Great food, cheap and good service

Decor more shabby than chic

...The Capital 1 restaurant is located on Fore Street, at Edmonton Green, in North London, overlooking the parking lot of an Asda store, and just metres from the railway/bus station with the same name. Not the prettiest location and tourists will rarely find their way here, unless they are staying in the Travelodge opposite side. Quite readable

Unexceptional plot line

...I really am amazed that no one has ever thought of such a plot line before. Take a random street and then describe the everyday lives of the various inhabitants. Genius! I can even perhaps see a long running soap opera emerging from the concept. OK enough sarcasm; despite the rather hackneyed plot line, John Lanchester has come up with a rather engaging novel in Capital. Plot line...
