TomTom Wireless GPS Receiver 20 channel GPS receiver module
Advantages: good
Disadvantages: none
...I dont have a 20 channel receiver however I do have a 12 channel receiver which came in the box with my Tom Tom Navigator 5 for PDA, whichi I use in my Treo 680 Smart Phone. The whole thing works perfectly and I couldn't ask for more as Sat Nav goes.
The GPS receiver looks identical to the 20 channel one shown here and if this one works as well as mine does then you can't go wrong.
It has a matt cover which makes it stay put where ever you place it on the dashboard and in use I've found that it picks up a signal very quickly and once linked to the PDA by bluetooth it keeps the signal so long as it can see just a tiny bit of sky. Once linked I take the unit off the dash and place it on the floor of the car in between the seats and it keeps the signal through motorway tunnels and even during a traffice halt under a bridge! It does link...

The best GPS receiver I have seen yet!
Advantages: Tiny, appealling, accurate, powerful and desirable.
Disadvantages: Rubber cover for DC power supply breaks off easily.
...I've been using GPS for a couple of years now. I started with the GPS kit for the Compaq iPAQ series - the one that attaches to the iPAQ as a jacket.
This had given me a couple of serious 'downers' about GPS, which nearly prevented me buying GPS again.
Firstly, my old device was unable to hold and lock onto a signal through my heated front car windscreen, meaning that I'd had to buy a re-radiating antenna. Secondly, the device was next to useless for walking or hiking, because it kept disconnecting from the iPAQ.
I'd seen, and wanted one of the TomTom bluetooth devices, but, seeing as they were going for around £85, was reluctant to invest. I kept on checking eBay and other sources over a period of about 8 months, and saw, continually, the TomTom device, along with a whole host of cheaper (and, to be honest, not very pretty...

A Sat Nav to give Tomtom a run for it's money!
Advantages: Excelent navigation tool
Disadvantages: Very poor battery life
...satnav's my initial reaction was "Yeah right" as the routing still tries to send you down poky little lanes. To my amazement, the routing for lorries on the U-92 does seem to have had some serious thought put into it. With the very - very odd exception, the route calculated by the U-92 for lorries may not be the shortest but is 99.5% the most appropriate. What is even more surprising is that the ETA displayed with this setting appears to have taken into account the lower speed restrictions for HGV's and is 99.9% of the time, accurate to within 4-5 minutes. Likewise the ETA given when set up for normal car driving also seems to be as accurate.

Great GPS receiver
Advantages: light, portable, good reception, accutate
Disadvantages: none
...A slim GPS Receiver that connect to your device using 'Bluetooth' a handy product that will enable your smartphone or windows mobile phone to connect to the GPS satalite network for trip guidence and other similar sat-nav tasks.
I have used this with my O2 XDA mini phone and found it to be very reliable. I loaded the Destinator sat-nav software onto my phone, launched the application and swithched on the Holux receiver and once i had set up the pairing in my phone it was good to go!
Reception was excellent and accuracy very good. In fact because it is so portable i was able to compare it with my friends Pergout car's factory fitted sat-nav and it beat it for accuracy hands down.
I also use it with some Geocaching software for paperless caching - look up Geocaching on google if you want to know what it is?
Some phones now have...

TomTom Go 300
Advantages: Where shall we go today ...
Disadvantages: A few disadvantages ... but you can live with them.
...My experience of the TomTom Go 300 (TT) is not quite so hunky-dory as some others. As most of the reviews here list the TT's abilities I won't elaborate on them but will concentrate on my experience for anyone with reservations.
My initial impression with my TT was disappointment, enough for me to write and complain.
The TT Go 300 (currently [June 05] cheapest in the range at approx £370) omitted to include a power supply adaptor, which is almost imperative when you want to set it up properly, as any online updates or downloads need a fully charged battery? the only way to do this, without going back to the shop to buy the power supply adaptor for about £19.00, is to drive for 2 hours with it on charge - a very remiss marketing decision in my humble opinion (particularly as the adaptor was included with its predecessor...

Need directions. Ask Tom Tom.
Advantages: Easy to install and use, stress free driving.
Disadvantages: Cost. Reliant on satellite signal.
...My husband had been itching to get a Tom Tom Go satellite car Navigation system since their launch. I had successfully ignored his hints, combated his quips about my non-existent sense of direction, disregarded his tales about the frequent times I have got lost and resisted his suggestions about how useful it would be for both mine and his work. His arguments though were valid and inwardly I had to admit it would probably be a good idea. So when it came to discussing a joint Christmas present I agreed to purchase one.
And so after a trip around a number of shops, we bought a unit from Comet for £397.00 in October 2004. Although a mutual Christmas present, we agreed to use the system immediately.
The system is neatly packaged into a small box containing everything needed to instantly set the system into motion. Firstly and most...

A no nonsense sat nav unit with great features
Advantages: Size, cost, features, display, windscreen mount
Disadvantages: Out dated information, power lead inflexible, poor battery performance
...I was looking for a no nonsense sat nav unit that was small enough to fit inside a jacket pocket when not used. Tom Tom had just introduced the basic 'One' model with the new XL (extra large) screen. It came with a car based power lead, USB lead, CD, manual, SD card with UK & Ireland on it & what I thought at first was a rather flimsy windscreen mount but no slip cover. The flimsy looking mount has turned out to be quite fantastic, once attached to the screen it holds the device rock solid & can be difficult to remove!! Even when driving over rough roads the unit never shakes or vibrates & I don't feel the need to upgrade to a more durable mount. The sat nav unit very quickly finds a decent reception & entering a location is made easy with a choice of a post code or address. There is only one switch on the unit for switching it on & off...

The Tom Tom Go Navigation
Advantages: The visual is great, lots of voices to choose from and easy to use.
Disadvantages: It's not completely updated with new roads and doesn't accept all postcodes
...I decided to buy the Tom Tom navigational system because the company I work for bought one for the use on company cars.
At first I thought it was a little bulky but that turned out to be an advantage because you need to be able to see the screen clearly. It also sticks to the car interior without falling off which is another big bonus.
The voices are also very good as they speak clearly authough some are american which means they will use different words to us brits, but if you insist on having this voice it is easily understood.
It can be turned off so don't threat if you find it irritating.
However, the tom tom did get a little confused by new roads so its not 100% accurate. It also refused to accept a postcode that I entered so I had to use a map which defeated the purpose.
I have only found this problem on one route out...

TomTom really have the market sussed
Advantages: Great customisation features, big clear screen, easy to use
Disadvantages: Battery life, no wall charger included
...believe you can attach headphones to it so not to attract attention to yourself with the spoken instructions!
This versions of the TomTom includes the latest maps of the UK & Ireland. You can get some TomTom's which have maps of Europe in them, but as I'm not planning on road trip around Europe anytime soon I went for the UK & Ireland version. Another big factor on choosing this one was the fact that the Europe edition was £80 more expensive at the time & after checking just now I noticed they haven't changed in price as I presumed they would have done either.
The TomTom Go 520 has a 4.3" touch screen, this is bigger than a lot of the competition brands of sat nav & one more reason I went for the TomTom. The touch screen is very easy to use & extremely responsive. You don't need one of those special pens like I've seen with other sat...

Terrible experiences with this Sat Nav
Advantages: Easy to set up, easy to use
Disadvantages: loss of signal, lack of POIs, marks many roads unknown
...I recently tried to use this Sat Nav system whilst on holiday in the Algarve, Portugal. NOT ONCE did it find us where we wanted to go. Problems we had:
1. Most roads, even the main road between PT and spain where marked as unknown.
2. often drove us to the middle of a construction site and said there was a beach there.
3. continuously fell off the windscreen
4. Sometimes lost satellite signal at the most critical time for up to 10 minutes.
However, now realizing its low price it is probably understandable. Maybe in the UK, this system works better but it is certainly a TERRIBLE system to use in Iberia.
There were a few good things to point out:
1. Easy to set up
2. Easy to use.
However, this only brings it up to a poor rating simply because it couldn't perform its basic function of finding us directions.
In...
