Vanquis Bank and Credit Card

Advantages: Gives credit to those who wouldn't otherwise get it.
Disadvantages: Very high interest, terrible customer service.

...A couple of months ago we made the mistake of getting a credit card "for emergencies", it was meant to be...but as always happens, it was used when it wasn't necessary (mainly by my husband!!!!). Vanquis Bank are a company who offers credit to people with a bad credit history (i.e. CCJs, missed payments etc and just no credit history). Anybody who has ever tried to get credit for the first time will know its sometimes very difficult, if you have never had any kind of credit given to you, companies won't take you on, as they don't know if your a risk or not...and so Vanquis offer a "credit score boosting card"...basically they give a credit card with £300 limit on it to people who have never before had a credit card and probably don't know how to use them correctly. Bank One now Halifax

Advantages: absolutely none
Disadvantages: could be hit with unexpected bills or charges

...I joined Bank One so that I could make use of their very low rate for card transfer and I was very satisfied with the way my account was handled. Absolutely no problems, the interest was charged as stated, and I have now recently paid off my account.It has been taken over by the Halifax Bank, and I recently received, completely unsolicited, 5 blank cheques and One cheque payable to myself for £500.It was only after reading the small print that I realised that these were credit card cheques charged to my account and that there was also a handling charge of 1.5% attached to these cheques. It is possible that some people who receive these cheques may be mistaken into thinking that the cheques are a gift to them, especially the one made out payable to them. I find their website goes down a lot in the late evenings and 12am onwards, which I guess is fine but I also find that I get 'kicked off' and have to re-log in during the early evenings, which is annoying. This happens in all web browsers. There is a PINSentry card reader, which is needed to log in to their system. I need my last name, twelve digit account number, last four digits on the front of my debit card and an eight digit code that the PINSentry generates. To generate the eight digit code on the PINSentry, I insert my debit card, enter my debit card PIN number. Acer plays the Ace card again!

Advantages: Small, lightweight, great performer. Can handle some 3D games.
Disadvantages: None for the Netbook, but Linux version is rubbish.
