EXCELLENT FACILITIES AT CARDIFF AIRPORT

Advantages: small, not overcrowded, friendly
Disadvantages: limited destinations

...I have flown from many of the European airports, but Cardiff is one of my favourites. Check-in is always uncomplicated, without long queues or overcrowding and as there are very few check- in desks, it is easy to find one's way around. As a single woman traveller, who is also fearful of flying, the layout and set up in the airport would enable, even the most unexperienced traveller, to get through check-in and onto the plane without any trouble. I have found with the other big London airports, its often hard to find out exactly where you are supposed to be, they are often overcrowded, people rushing about. The same cannot be said of Cardiff Airport! It has a very relaxed feeling to it. I usually check-in 2 hours/40 mins before flight (depending on airline) and once I am bag-free I go up the first floor to change my money...

A Sophisticated Stay in Cardiff

Advantages: Sophisticated, swimming pool, comfortable
Disadvantages: Expensive

...As you may know by know, I?m always up for a bargain or a free holiday. So when my boyfriend got a free hotel voucher (due to a muck-up on one of his bills) we thought we?d make a weekend of it and have a mini city break. Living in the South our first choice was London, but looking through the list of available hotels we were allowed to choose from somewhere else stood out. Neither of us had ever been to Cardiff and we figured that we were close enough to get there by car and it was be a good excuse to suss it out. Our first choice was the Hilton hotel, but we were offered the Novotel. However, on visiting the city centre and seeing the Hilton from the outside I think I prefer the Novotel now anyway! ~~Location, Location, Location~~ Location is a pretty important factor in choosing a hotel and the Novotel won?t be for everyone...

Review of Novotel Cardiff Centre, Cardiff

Convenient but can't handle the unexpected

Advantages: Convenient, limited flights and destinations
Disadvantages: Expensive flight supplements, poor at handling out of the ordinary situations

...Convenience, or at least I thought it was until on Saturday in July 2001, when my perception of this small, but perfectly formed airport definitely changed for the worse. As anyone who lives in the South Wales Region will probably agree, flying from Cardiff is extremely handy, and avoids those nasty treks to Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester. For daytime flights, the likes of Airtours and Britannia can charge horrendous flight supplements, often as much as £80/£100 per person for daytime flights, somewhat less for night-time flights (flying I loathe at the best of times, flying at night.....enough said). First time I flew from Cardiff my initial reaction to my partner was, wheres the rest of it?, although it has developed in the last few years to something resembling a professional outfit which is also very disabled friendly...

Cardiff International Arena

Advantages: great location

...Well i first went to the CIA in Cardiff when i was around 14 years old so a few years ago now. i went to see boyzone there and rememebr thinking omg this place is huge and i was really spun out by it all, it was my first concert and i was just amazed by the atmosphere there. So it wasnt until returning some years later to see westlife twice and blue that my opinion changed! Firstly the CIA is smack bang in the middle of cardiff and is very very easy to get to, it is a short walk from the central train station and is situated around the corner from a NCP car park which is handy but is expensive and you can be queing up for ages to pay for you ticket and then you have to get out of the car park but hey thats another story.(Car parking fees are costly in cardiff generally)! The CIA is home to many events such as concerts...

Alicante Airport

Advantages: Good location, decent amenities
Disadvantages: Can't think of any

...I use Alicante airport for my annual break in Spain and find it is convenient and fairly easy to use. It is situated just outside Alicante on the Costa Blanca, around 46.5km from Benidorm. It is within driving distance of Valencia, around two hours and 179km. Arrivals You would probably fly to Alicante if you were staying in Benidorm, Torrevieja, Altea, Calpe, Moraira or Teulada. It is popular with budget airlines such as Easyjet and Bmibaby and there are flights from many regional airports in the UK such as East Midlands, Liverpool, Bristol, Newcastle and Stansted to name a few. There are around ten car hire companies who operate out of the airport including the big names like Avis, Europcar and Hertz, these desks are located in the arrivals hall and can get busy at peak times. ...Chicago airport. On a recent visit to san Diego, we had to have a stop in Chicago airport for a couple of hours...most of my travelling seems to be spent in airports! It was the busiest airport in the United States until Atlanta became the busiest and it was apparently voted best airport in North America in 2000...that's 8 years ago so i don't know which airport has been winning since then. The airport is 20 miles from downtown Chicago but since we weren't actaully going to Chicago we didn't actally leave the airport so I can't comment on the transport links. **The Terminals** Of course when stuck in an airport these are the places you see most often. ...Gdansk Airport (officially named Lech Walesa Airport) is located in the village/suburb of Rebiechowo within about a half hour's minutes drive from most areas of Tri-City (many outlying suburbs will be closer, though). The hotel is walking distance from Cardiff Central train station, has easy access to the M4 and is only 12 miles from Cardiff International Airport. The city centre shopping area is about ten minutes walk from the hotel, and Cardiff Castle is half a mile away. Hotel Information = The hotel is one of the larger Marriott’s that I have visited, boasting 182 rooms across 10 floors, with 4 executive suites tucked away in there as well. Review of Marriott Hotel, Cardiff

Fly from Home

Advantages: Local airport, good facilities, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Can be more expensive for package deals

...our flight was called we had a short journey to the departure gate where staff handled the boarding of the plane very well. Within a couple of hours of arriving at the airport we were safely installed on a plane making plans for our weekend. 4 days later a lot poorer, very worn out, but sporting healthy looking tans (to hide how ill we were still feeling from hangovers) we arrived back in Cardiff. Our luggage was coming down the luggage rack within 10 minutes of us leaving the plane. We had one scary moment when it appeared like a case was missing but it appeared on the rack later. One quick journey through customs and we were in the arrivals area looking for our lifts home. Enough of my reminising, I’d better give you some more info about the airport. I would recommend Cardiff Airport to anyone travelling away this year...
