Well done Cardiff

...I have just finished watching an enthralling FA Cup victory by Cardiff City, 10th in the Second Division against the Premiership league leaders Leeds United. It was a classic cup tie played in a tremendous atmosphere in which Cardiff came back from a goal down with my man of the match Scott Young scoring the winner in the last five minutes of the game. Sam Hamman certainly has a talent for making things happen wherever he goes, first of all he wanted to play this game at the Milennium Stadium and then he suggested that Cardiff had the potential to be a bigger club than Leeds. He has ploughed £10 million pounds into the club and bought some excellent players including club captain Graham Kavanagh. My Stay In Holiday Inn , Cardiff

Advantages: Convenient , efficient staff

...Recently I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Cardiff. This was my third stay. What an ideal place to stay. Situated next door to the Millenium Stadium ; bedroom window overlooking the stadium. 10 Minute walk from the railway station. On arrival we were checked in efficiently and professionally. Our room was cleaned to a high standard and we felt very welcome. The following day we had to leave early as we had an appointment and therefore I enquired in the restaurant about what time breakfast was. I was told breakfast began at 7:30 because it was Sunday. I asked if we could have breakfast earlier. In reply I was asked what time we would like to have breakfast. I couldn't believe it , having stayed in places where people were less helpful! CARDIFF CITY - WHAT ABOUT IT?

Advantages: Emerging dynamic City, decent facilities, good location.

Cardiff City Centre - Shopping

Advantages: Wide variety of shops - a large amuont under cover
Disadvantages: Parking costs

...Having lived here all my life, I have seen Cardiff grow from a small city in the '70's to a major shopping centre over the last 30 years, and it has certainly benefitted from all the inward investment and new development that comes with this recognition. Travelling into Cardiff City centre by car is not too much of a problem traffic wise compared to other major cities in the UK. There are the usual rush hour delays on weekdays, but these are usually resolved by about 9.30, and on weekends the roads stay fairly clear, except when there are rugby internationals at the impressive new Millennium Stadium. Concerts really aren't a problem as they are usually held in the evenings after the shops have closed. Of course, Christmas causes the biggest problems! No major problems with parking - the city has numerous multi-storey car parks...

A Sophisticated Stay in Cardiff

Advantages: Sophisticated, swimming pool, comfortable

...As you may know by know, I?m always up for a bargain or a free holiday. So when my boyfriend got a free hotel voucher (due to a muck-up on one of his bills) we thought we?d make a weekend of it and have a mini city break. Living in the South our first choice was London, but looking through the list of available hotels we were allowed to choose from somewhere else stood out. Neither of us had ever been to Cardiff and we figured that we were close enough to get there by car and it was be a good excuse to suss it out. Our first choice was the Hilton hotel, but we were offered the Novotel. However, on visiting the city centre and seeing the Hilton from the outside I think I prefer the Novotel now anyway! ~~Location, Location, Location~~ Location is a pretty important factor in choosing a hotel and the Novotel won?t be for everyone...

Funkiest Club in Cardiff

Advantages: Good live bands
Disadvantages: Sometimes too smokey because of not much ventilation

...The Barfly is one of the newest clubs in Cardiff. It's situated opposite Cardiff Castle and i have to admit that i'm a big fan of it. Barfly plays indie music and is a good alternative to the infamous Clwb Ifor Bach that i'm not too impressed with. Prices vary on the door depending on how well known a band is, local bands choose the prices they want to charge so beware! The most i've paid to get in is £7 which was for the Crocketts who i rate as one of my fave new bands, although if you don't really fancy seeing a band then you can go there about 11pm on the weekend and listen to local DJ'S (Mike TV normally who is now on Red Dragon Radio)playing a vast collection of indie bands. This ranges from Welsh bands as the Manics and the Stereos, to the Spiral Carpets and Greenday. This brings me to the fact that i saw James Dean...

...The youngest capital city in europe, and one of the fastest growing city in the world, Cardiff has something for everyone. For shopaholics there is the busy city centre with all the top stores ranging from Laura Ashley to Ann Summers with lots in between. Plus there are several out of town sites with huge superstores including the largest Tesco store in Wales which is open 24hrs and features staff on rollerblades!!! For the food critic Cardiff has an abundance of restaurants and eateries ranging from Traditional family restaurants to International cuisine. There is something for all tastes (and wallet sizes!!) from McDonalds and Burger King for the Youngsters to some of the highest quality restauarnts in the country. Up the City

Advantages: Best team in Wales, there is never a dull moment.
Disadvantages: Need to move to a new stadium and quickly, Rust.

.... Manager Dave Jones has really done well with the limited resources available to him. To the person who thinks Rugby is the number one sport in Cardiff, I'd check your facts. For every rugby team there are at least 10 football teams. The number of people watching Cardiff football always out ways the number watching the cities rugby club. Both Welsh international codes are both well attended, but usually the vast majority of the rugby following fraternity come out of the wood work just to have a good booze up for the six nations. Heres for the rest of the season and hoping the Bluebirds can make the playoffs....
