Cum to Cardiff Uni

Advantages: Great location, a well renowned university, wide choice of subjects
Disadvantages: S4C instead of channel 4!

...If you are currently trying to decide which uni to go to, here is my advice about Cardiff. I would say make your decision very carefully wherever you end up going. The course and the university are equally important in my opinion! Well I have been here for two months now so I will give my impressions of the place. THE UNI The university buildings are mainly spread out along one road (Park Place) which leads out of the city centre. This is good as the site is not all spread out and very close to the centre of Cardiff(5 minutes walk). The buildings vary in their attractiveness, the civic centre is gorgeous, but most of the faculty buildings are modern red brick. The students are about 1/4 Welsh to 3/4 English, with a fair amount of International Students as well. There are quite a lot of middle class "yah yah rugby" types, but...

Cardiff University

...After achieving my place in Cardiff University last summer I have to admit I had many reservations like what if I don't like it?, what if I don't make any friends? all sorts of things came into my mind. However when I finally sat down and said 'hey this is an amazing opportunity - i'm going' it was just a rollercoaster from there. I actually live at home and commute to uni as the public transport is superb. My bus drops me off and the walk is about 15minutes at the most - the university is very central, much of it set in the attractive Civic Centre of Cardiff. The uni buildings are amazing, some traditional looking and others very modern, with fantastic grounds. The students Union is also brilliant: it has numerous bars and even its own nightclub -Solus!! Business at Cardiff (The Best Uni ever!)

Advantages: Best Students Union, Best people, Compact City, Social Life, you will get to know everyone
Disadvantages: Cold & Wet - but not really a problem

...I graduated with a 2:1 in Bus Admin in July. IT IS THE BEST UNI EVER, and I am gutted I have to move back home as I spent sooo much money during my 3 years there (partied too hard!). The course is the best course - there are about 300-400 people doing it - and it is THE MOST SOCIABLE course in all of Cardiff uni (in my opinion). All the Business Admin lot are party animals and you always see each other out drunk. (The Medics are also known to be party animals) The next day at lectures can be very funny/embarrassing/humiliating :) Believe me when I say that in terms of your social life, its better to be on a big course. I love my coursemates and it also makes graduation something to look forward to! The 1st year doesnt count, so my advice is to just enjoy yourself but make sure you achieve 40% in your exams to go through to 2nd yr...

STUDENT ACCOMMODATION-CARDIFF

Advantages: PLENTIFUL, QUALITY DIGS TO BE FOUND
Disadvantages: SOME BAD LANDLORDS AND AGENCIES

CONCLUSION Apart from the lack of evidence of gas certificates, all these properties had another great added feature in common - YEARS WORTH OF HAIRS ON THE STAIRS....YUCK! ALL THE ABOVE PROPERTIES WERE RENTED OUT BY THE SAME PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY. LEGAL ADVICE PREVENTS ME FROM NAMING THEM. I CAN TELL YOU THOUGH THAT THEY ARE NOT RECOMMENDED BY ANY CARDIFF UNIVERSITY ACCOMMODATION SERVICE. Valid gas safety certificates should be held at every rented property that has any gas appliances and should be no more than 12 months old. Carbon monoxide poisoning is a KILLER....

Student Life at Cardiff

Advantages: Superb nightlife
Disadvantages: Boring eggchasers

...I have been a student at the University Of Wales, cardiff since September 2000, and I think the place is excellent. The course I am studying, Business Administration, has proved to be agood choice, although my mid-year exam results were quite literally nothing to write home about (my Dad would kill me!), but the mainly the student lifestyle at Cardiff is great. We are repeatedly being told that we are so lucky to have the biggest and the best Student Union in the country. Quite how they measured it to be the best I don't know, but I won't argue. The nightclub, Solus can hold nearly 2000 people, and is sold out in advance at least twice a week (usually on a friday and wednesday). The pub, The Tafarn (pun on the Rive Taff), is, so we are also told, the largest pint-selling bar in the country, and it is busy every day of the week. We...

A Sophisticated Stay in Cardiff

Advantages: Sophisticated, swimming pool, comfortable

...As you may know by know, I?m always up for a bargain or a free holiday. So when my boyfriend got a free hotel voucher (due to a muck-up on one of his bills) we thought we?d make a weekend of it and have a mini city break. Living in the South our first choice was London, but looking through the list of available hotels we were allowed to choose from somewhere else stood out. Neither of us had ever been to Cardiff and we figured that we were close enough to get there by car and it was be a good excuse to suss it out. Our first choice was the Hilton hotel, but we were offered the Novotel. However, on visiting the city centre and seeing the Hilton from the outside I think I prefer the Novotel now anyway! ~~Location, Location, Location~~ Location is a pretty important factor in choosing a hotel and the Novotel won?t be for everyone...

...Well i first went to the CIA in Cardiff when i was around 14 years old so a few years ago now. i went to see boyzone there and rememebr thinking omg this place is huge and i was really spun out by it all, it was my first concert and i was just amazed by the atmosphere there. So it wasnt until returning some years later to see westlife twice and blue that my opinion changed! Firstly the CIA is smack bang in the middle of cardiff and is very very easy to get to, it is a short walk from the central train station and is situated around the corner from a NCP car park which is handy but is expensive and you can be queing up for ages to pay for you ticket and then you have to get out of the car park but hey thats another story.(Car parking fees are costly in cardiff generally)! This is just off from the bar area so im sure in the summer months it is very relaxing and peaceful to sit out there and have a drink, however I was unable to do so as it was February and cold!
