...This review is on one of the most rewarding, yet most undervalued job that there can ever be. And I've done some! First off, lets' take a look at the disadvantages. The work is not at all valued, which is shown in the number of hours that people work alonsgide the low rate of pay that is offered. Many care homes regardless of whether they are privately owned or are a part of a bigger company, will generally pay the national minimum wage or just slightly higher for health care assistants - a pittance for what they do, which I don't like one bit. However, council run establishments may pay more because after all what else can they do with our money. As noted, another downfall is that of having to do shift work. This is basically an antiseptic cream which can be used for minor burns abrasions and nappy rash and is suitable for use on children and adults. Although it doesn?t state it on the packaging, I assume also that it can be used on cuts and grazes, so have been using it effectively of Little Miss?s knees, both of which are grazed at the moment. The cream itself is packaged in a box with the instructions on the sides, and inside the box is, as expected, a 30g tube with a screw on/off lid. There is the usual spike on the top of the lid which I use to pierce the foil protector, and then i can get to the cream. Caring for the Elderly

Advantages: A really rewarding job
Disadvantages: when the residents die it`s heartbreaking

...shifts by doing activities with the residents, then at nights the night staff would serve tea/coffee and biscuits, and put the residents to bed. Staff on duty There was always a staff nurse on duty during the day, to make sure everything would run smoothly and to administer medications needed, most of the Nurses also done there fair share of work during the day. So with a staff nurse and three care assistants on, looking after 18 residents was`nt to hard. Basically they can walk into any agency and check that there is no fraud and all regulations are being followed or they can close them down. So first thing you need to have is a CRB which is a police check, so there is no point lying at your interview because you will be found out. These do take a while to come back. They cost around £40 and some companies do pay for them for you. If that comes back clear you are checked on the POVA register to check if you have been in trouble at another agency. It's like being struck off. These checks are good at least families know that the people going into their loved ones are not convicted criminals!! After all that comes back clear you can start your training...

I found that this was far better than Jodi Picoult's books but then having found Picoult's newest book 'Handle With Care' I thought I would give her work another read. Jodi had a lot of work to do to woo me back from the work of Diane - did she handle me with enough care with this book? Wow what a minefield of controversy this book brings, it is a very absorbing book with some even more difficult decisions and questions wrapped up in the story.
