...The BBC?s weather site?now there?s an interesting thing to review?? Surely it?s just a page with an up-to-date weather map on it?and perhaps an outlook for the next few days? Well, yes you?d be right. But it does have more to it than that? The light blue homepage does show a satellite image of the British Isles, with various cities pinpointed on the map to help with those who don?t know where London is?oh dear?but obviously they?re just for reference points. As I type, there seems to be an awful lot of rain heading our way. Those in Ireland are currently getting soaked! There is a slider along the bottom of the map which you can manually move to see what will happen to the weather over the course of the next few days. It could be a wet one looking at this! You can change the map to a temperature map, but at this time of year...

Dishwater or British pride? (Carling Lager)

Advantages: Cheap.
Disadvantages: Weak watery taste.

...I like beer, as do many of us, but after a recent holiday in Belgium I have come back a bit of a beer snob. The beer in Belgium (mainstream beer too) is wonderful, full of rich flavours and has a decent kick to it which is different to many mainstream beers found in the UK. I know you can get good Real Ales in the UK but I thought I would look at a selection of the more popular beers you can get easily throughout the UK starting with Carling. The tin of carling I have chilling in my fridge contains 440ml of 4% vol beer and cost me £1.09. The tin is black and white and boasts that Carling is made with British barley and has been for over 30 years, the beer is made from 100% British barley and that the beer offers a complete flavour and refreshment for all. Advantages: loads of funny parts that will have you laughing for ages afterwards
Disadvantages: story line sounds better than it is and film gets a bit silly in places

...The weather man is a great comedy from the director of Pirates of the Caribbean (Gore Verbinski). Rated a 15+ due to strong language, sex and sexual references. One disk containing the film and special features. The film is approximately 97 minutes long. I found this film for only three pound in the bargain bin at blockbusters but have seen it priced at around the same price on eBay and Amazon. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. True Picture Book Classic (The Very Hungry Caterpillar - E Carle)

Advantages: great text, artwork and story

...This book is a true children's classic - and rightly so. I am not normally fan of Eric Carle, despite his perennial popularity and great hype, but this one is a winner: I suspect that all his fame was built on this one book. I don't know what it is about caterpillar themed books that appeals so much, although I suppose it must be the (unbearable, obviously) suspense of transformation, and the contrast between wiggly, faintly repulsive caterpillar, crawling on the ground or on the plants, and the beauty that is a butterfly, who, on top of everything, also can fly! Carle's story chronicles a week in a life one one caterpillar who goes on a rampage devouring huge quantities of fruit (in fact, there is a method to that, as it eats one on Monday, two on Tuesday etc).
