PA Paradise

Advantages: Compact and Powerful with duel impedance support.

...If anyone out there is trying to get all the gear together for general usage and band work, this could benefit you. In general Carlsbro amplification is very good quality, and usually well priced in it's category compared to rival brands. This op however is about the early PMX 8 - 2 model. I picked up this great bit of kit for £800.00 complete with speakers second hand nearly 3 years ago, and at the time it must have already been 4 to 5 years old. It's still just as good now, and with an output of 150 watt x 2 for stereo or 300 watt mono, it has plenty of oomph, and if required can be slaved up to 2000 watt. That should be more than enough even for the biggest auditorium. The design is quite good, a bit like the flight cased DJ units with built in carry handles. Review of Peavey Carlsbro PMX 8-2 PA

Yamaha RBX 460 - mid-priced heaven!

Advantages: Excellent tone, attractive, inexpensive
Disadvantages: Customer support quite tedious

..., and excellent for most other uses. Verstatility is the key with Yamaha goods, and I have played this bass in many different types of band. The bass is light and makes a beautiful warm sound through my Carlsbro Bassline 120. I'd like to take this opportunity to state that after playing bass for 8 years and playing in session bands and concerts throughout the country, I now exclusively use Yamaha guitars. I have 4 now, going from the starter range to the older BB, this RBX and my £900 TRB. As far as sound quality goes, the RBX blows the BB and starter bass out of the water and competes very closely with the TRB. There is one disadvantage with this guitar. I once phoned Yamaha customer service, concerning official replacement machine heads for my old BB, and the call lasted a good 15 minutes. It's nothing major, but the customer service will...

DJ - How to get started...

Disadvantages: can be costly, tiring

...and make sure it's a branded lot. If you are going to buy this off eBay then be careful because people on eBay could have tampered which there have been many complaints about. The brands that I recommend for a system are Peavey or Carlsbro. You will be able to get this type of system for about 600 pound. Lightning - This is my favourite part of DJ'ing the light shows they just make the disco spectacular. For my lightning I have 3 'scanners' and one moonflower. The scanners are the lights with mirrors on the top and 'scan' the venue. And the moonflower is just a basic light with a few gobo's (a gobo is a shape that the light produces.) These are perfect they are very lightweight and they fit the venue perfectly therefore I am not needing anything else. Although I am thinking of getting a few 'par cans' they are the big things that looks like...
