...Why choose Swinton Insurance! It was the dreaded time for me to look for car insurance again as per usual I check all the price comparison websites. Swinton came up the cheapest on two of them, so I decided to go direct to their own website to see what price was available and read a bit more about them. The main reasons I decided to go with Swinton was: *Competitive price ? Some £38 cheaper than the next best price and over £50 cheaper than my renewal price. *Local Shops ? ...It's that time of year again - just after Christmas co-incides with when I bought my car (off my mum!) last year having just passed my driving test. Bit embarrassing leaving it so long, but money was tight and the busses were good to and from work ..... They were not the cheapest on the list for my circumstances, but they did offer everything I needed (plus legal cover as an option) and £50 cash-back after the policy has been in place for 90 days which made it cheaper than the other options anyway. NOT the CHeapest - but CHeerful Motor Insurance

Advantages: 5% discount for online quotes, easy to apply, competitive premiums, helpful staff
Disadvantages: need to get letter for NCD proof, (not available in R.O.I or Northern Ireland)

...looking for fully comprehensive cover, for a 2.0L engine car (Group13-14 Insurance Group). Fortunately I have always had ‘protected’ NCD so my previous accident/claim did not make any difference to my premium. I tried about 8 different insurance companies ranging from my previous insurers CGNU (Norwich Union), Axa, AA (very expensive!), Prudential, Churchill, Eagle Star and Direct Line. These premiums ranged from £580 -£800, but Direct Line - turned out to be cheapest quote (£440)- but following a poor customer service and numerous errors I decided to cancel that Policy (see opinion). Morethan Car Insurance. Cheap but not Cheerful :(

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Not UK call centre when making a claim and very unprofesional staff.

...Well I insured my daughters car with More Than because like we all do, because it was cheap. You search them all and insure with the cheapest, and in this case More Than was the cheapest which was fine because I had saved some money. All was well until one day someone crashed into the rear of my daughter's car pushing her into someone else. The car was not driveable so we had to arrange a courtesy car, the advert says you only have to wait 2 hours , we got one the next day. Anyway that was not the main problem. In the end all was ok but dealing with the call centre ( not in the uk) was the nightmare. The amount of phone calls to the call centre dealing with the claim was unreal. A review/cautionary tale of Post Office Car Insurance!

Advantages: cheap car insurance, some polite and friendly staff
Disadvantages: stressful, costly, some lying staff, hassle, grief, don't touch with a barge pole

...My experience of Post Office Motor Insurance was sadly not a happy one. I took advantage of a cash back offer for taking out a comprehensive Motor Insurance policy, within a short time the documents arrived, but then I found a better offer. As I was still well within the 14 day okay-to-change-your-mind 'cooling-off' period, I cancelled the policy and took one out with the alternative provider. Somehow the Post Office, despite being very pleasant and understanding on the telephone, and having had the Certificate of Insurance documents returned to them as requested, somehow charged my debit card for the full amount anyway. I thought this must simply be an error, however I was concerned as my bank account was not exactly flush at the time, I had after all just paid the OTHER insurance provider for their policy, and lots of other bills...

Car Insurance

Advantages: Cheap, quick
Disadvantages: no nodding dog

...the car. I rang the insurance company up expecting a nice reduction in my premium, to be actually told it would be going up by £20. I might of been shellshocked but stupidly agreed to the increase. It wasn't until a few weeks ago when my insurance renewal came through that i finally decided that action had to be taken. My renewal quote was just a joke with it going up another £7. Now you might be all thinking that £7 isn't much and i would agree. But when you've been driving for 9 years with no claims and no convictions, so am i wrong in thinking the premium should be going down? So the mission was set, find a new company get it all organised and have great pleasure in saying bye bye to my current insurers. After spending money on his injections when he was younger and worming tablets and his regular check ups at the vets, she decided to buy pet insurance. I have a car policy with Endsleigh and have been happy with them for a few years so we checked out the pet insurance with them. It?s a costly thing to have a dog as vet fees are not cheap. The castration of a dog costs £180 at our local vets, add this to the worming tablets, regular check ups of weight and health when they are growing up and their injections and your looking at more than £ 400. This is without including any ailments that they might have in their life to come. We bought a policy from Endsleigh for £112.09 a year. Do not touch Swifcover Motor Insurance with a bargepole!!

...My car windscreen was smashed by vandals. I phoned the windscreen 0800 number for Autoglass ,provided with my insurance policy , at 9am on Friday morning. I was advised someone would phone me back within 2 hours. This they did, and advised me they could replace my windscreen on Wednesday!! Disadvantages: A bit of extra expense.

...the internet, this type of extra motor insurance is not very well publicised, except when you are at the dealers and purchasing your new car. A search on the internet will provide lots of companies willing to sell you this insurance cover. You may find out that it cost about £250-£400 for 3 years cover. I found that this was a small price to pay for the peace of mind that it gives me for knowing that the shortfall should a write-off happen again was covered. Work it out yourself for your motor. What was it new and what is 20% of that sum? That`s how much you could lose! And why are the motor dealers so eager to sign you up to it when you are making the purchase and signing the papers? Why, commission of course! It can cost about £150 extra if you decide on Gap Insurance from the car dealers and that money goes straight into their coffers...
