Visually spectacular, Stanton's easy-going direction, epic action, believable leading couple

A familiar plot, slow start, and a touch too long

It’s hard to pin-point exactly just what went wrong here. Was it the deeply unappealing, “would only speak to sci-fi nerds” title? The fact that no eye-catching, headline-grabbing actor was leading the way? Perhaps it was the very repetitive, tiresome trailers that failed to tell us anything...
