Christmas at the Carvery

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: After a while, you're just throwing money away. Cheap isn't a bargain if it's pants

...I'm sure there are many people who will comment on this review that they love their local Toby Carvery, go religiously, and never have bad service. These are the people who will say it is unfair for me to go once, and then review this place. They will moan that I am letting one bad experience cloud my views of an entire chain, and that the poor people in the south east trying to make their living running such a place will suffer because of the cruel words I bestow on their colleagues in the north west. To these people, I say "Tough". To me, the fact that I went (yes, just the once), and it had such a profound impression on me after that one visit that I had enough material to write 1700 words on it is enough. Based on the experience I had, I would not return, ever. I would not give it another go. There are no second chances when...

Toby Carvery plus other menus

Advantages: only £5 per person
Disadvantages: told how long to wait, but usually shorter than told

...At the weekend during a visit to family we decided that it would be nice to go out for a meal. With 4 generations of us we decided to go to Toby Carvery as we could either have the carvery and help ourselves to as much or as little as we want - ideal for the youngest generation and the eldest or the set menu. We went to the Toby Carvery in Banbury, Oxfordshire. On entering the grounds we found plenty of free parking surrounded by plenty of well set out lawn and garden. On entering Toby Carvery you have to wait for the waitress to ask how many of you there are. We were told there would be a 30 minute wait. That did not seem too bad and we went to the second part where there is a bar and settled down to order and have a drink. The drinks were very reasonably priced. In fact all were at least 30p cheaper than the town...

Best Carvery in Britain

Advantages: Excellent food, a nice pint and all reasonably priced. What more could you want.
Disadvantages: During busy periods, such as Sundays you may have to wait for a seat.

...A traditional pub and restaurant that serves British food. I really enjoy eating here and will continue to visit many times in the future. The decor inside is very welcoming and gives a warm feeling. The walls are covered in comical pictures that have been seen throughout the years in British history. The seats are comfy and the pub is split into two parts. One for relaxing with friends where you can enjoy a drink, and the other part is the restaurant. Toby offers a menu where you can select a cooked meal from, or if you wish you can choose the carvery. I have never ate any of the other food, I always get the carvery. The restaurant is known for their delicious carvery and I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to eat from it. You firstly select your meat, either gammon, turkey, or a combination. They also offer pie's as an alternative...

Pub Carvery even you can afford

Advantages: Great Food at a Great Price
Disadvantages: None

...THE SQUIRREL PUB AND CARVERY, BLACKPOOL The Squirrel is a very popular pub restaurant on Bispham Road in Blackpool. To get to the pub by car you leave the M55 motorway at junction three and follow the A583 road towards Blackpool Town Centre. The A587 is on the right as you go into town and you need to turn right towards the zoo, and you can follow brown elephant signs until you get to Stanley Park. Once near the zoo follow the A587 past Blackpool Victoria Hospital towards Bispham and Cleveleys. You reach the pub on your left after passing B and Q on the right. There is ample car parking once you are at The Squirrel. The pub is about half a mile north of Layton Railway Station which is on the Blackpool North Line. The best bus route to get there from Blackpool Town Centre is route number 11. The Squirrel is owned by...

Review of The Squirrel Pub & Carvery, Bispham, Blackpool

It's cheap for a reason

Advantages: Meat is nicely cooked
Disadvantages: Rubbery veg

...Crown Carveries took over one of our local pubs from Brewers Fayre a couple of years ago, and I have to say whilst it's cheaper, it's certainly not an improvement. For those that don't know, Crown Carveries is a national chain of restaurants, to find out if you have one close to you, you can check here http://www.crowncarveries.co.uk/find-us.html. My experience has not been a great one though. Background The carveries cost £3.50 for adults and £3.25 for children. For that you get choice of meats, which are plated for you, and then you get to choose from a range of vegetables, which you plate yourself. Then there is a selection of sauces and gravy. This carvery is available Monday to Saturday, then a more expensive carvery is available on a Sunday My Thoughts Firstly, there is no point buying the kids...

Not a carve up at these prices

Advantages: Fantastic value meal
Disadvantages: None

... CROWN CARVERIES Crown Carveries used to be known as Pub & Carveries. I have read some pretty bad reviews about these pubs, personally I think that this is all to do with which pub you got to. The one that we use in Cleveleys, Lancashire - the Tramway - has always been fine. When you can get a massive roast lunch for £3.50 they have to be worth trying, don't they. The Tramway The Tramway is a busy pub on Victoria Road West, the main road through the town centre of Cleveleys. The pub has a large car park and indoor and outdoor seating and tables. The carvery is served Monday - Saturday 11.30am till 9.30pm and on Sunday 11am till 9.30pm. There is plenty of seating in the pub and it can cater for tables of up to 12 customers. There are always plenty of waiters and waitresses dressed smartly in black...

Delicious and cheap!

Advantages: Cheap food, nice atmosphere and attentive staff
Disadvantages: Some of the veg is coated in butter, not good for us watching our weight!

...I am a huge fan of Sunday lunches and all the trimmings, however I am not a big fan of cooking! For me, Toby Carvery is the perfect alternative. I have been to many Toby Carvery's and my opinion is the same for them all- however this one is a review of Toby Carvery, Calder Island, Wakefield. What is it? Toby Carvery is a chain of pubs ran by Mitchells and Butlers. It offers mainly carvery, but also has other menus which I will go into later. They host quiz nights, and special evenings for example "Curry Night". The have lots of pictures on the wall of random things which take over most of the walls, but this I find adds to the atmosphere. Its quite homely. You do not need to pre-book, but for large parties its best to book. What are my food options? Carvery The carvery is set out on a queuing system...

Sunday dinner?? But it's not Sunday

Advantages: Meat was very nicely cooked, price, view from patio
Disadvantages: Service at bar, toilets weren't the cleanest

...My fiance and I decided to go out for dinner tonight as we had a bit of good news to celebrate. Neither of us are the type to go to a ?posh? restaurant and I?m finding spicy food a little difficult at the moment so we decided that a Carvery would be just the thing. The nearest of these establishments to us is the Martello Inn Toby Carvery, situated on Marine Parade, Clacton (that?s the seafront to you and me). Although we only live about quarter of an hours walk away we decided to use the car and there were plenty of parking spaces in the attached car park and parking is very reasonable at only £1 for two hours. Even better this fee is deducted from the bill when you use the Carvery, so parking really didn?t cost anything. I?ve been to the Martello Inn a few times before, once in it?s current incarnation as a Toby Carvery and more than...

SUNDAY DINNER SEVEN DAYS A WEEK

Advantages: Great Value, Great Choice, Great Taste
Disadvantages: Not enough meat

...I do love a traditional roast Sunday dinner. If I don’t have one roast dinner a week, I get serious withdrawal symptoms. But I don’t like cooking them most of the time, and I don’t always want them on a Sunday. Enter Toby Carvery, my culinary saviour. Toby Carveries are the restaurants within Toby Inns, which are situated nationwide. There are two close to me and I visit both regularly. Like the best chain restaurants, they are consistently the same whichever you visit. The Ambience Usually hectic and buzzing. Toby Carveries are very popular. To calm you down though is traditional but slightly quirky décor (the hundreds of framed photos add the quirkiness, ranging from stills from movies and TV series to old goldrushers in their dungarees to some very odd people and animals indeed) and dim...

Toby, or not toby

Advantages: Shh, I'm thinking
Disadvantages: Just plain bad

...A couple of weeks ago, myself and mrs p took a short break to Washington...not the DC one, but the original near Sunderland. We were staying at the Holiday Inn and thought it convenient that there was a Toby Carvery just a few hundred metres away where, after a long...make that very l o n g day shopping at the Metro Centre, we could just check into the hotel, have a quick freshen up, and toddle off to the Toby for a bite to eat and a bucket of beer. So we did. On arriving at 6.55 we were informed that we were too late for the fiver special deals which ended at 7. We were then told that there was a 20 minute wait for a table. Oh well, things could only get better. Striding purposefully towards the bar, drooling with anticipation at the thought of a foaming mug of the local ale, I searched the fonts in vain for anything 'real...
